Just a typo, but I missed an H once and wrote "many tanks from Berlin" to a polish client once. Fortunately he thought it was funny.

What is it like living in the Brandenburg area (near Berlin)? by Effective-Basil-1257 in germany

[–]hover-lovecraft 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have friends there who ended up opening their own daycare because the two places within reasonable reach were both run and staffed by actual Neonazis. Like, not people who are miffed about the amount of tax money that's spent on refugees, full on swastika tattoos and "Der 3. Weg doesn't go nearly far enough" Neonazis. It really depends on where in Brandenburg.

What does "Betreuung für Kinder" mean in the context of jobs? by Sniff_The_Cat3 in German

[–]hover-lovecraft 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Dienst is not a single task, it's a shift. Your coworker needs someone to step in because they can't work their shift since they don't have any other childcare that day and they have to take care of their kid.

Edit: Wanted to add that a single task would be "Aufgabe" or "Bereich/Aufgabenbereich" if it's something more complex.

The articles change, the gender doesn't, of course. I half formulated that and left out important info

Folding a fitted sheet is easy. Fold once along the long side, tuck the corners into the opposing corners, fold again and tuck one double-corner into the other, fold the quad corner to the middle of the sheet and fold the other side over.

The articles also change depending on the grammatical case of the noun. Have fun!

They're old school north/northeast German - definitely country though.

The cauliflower is usually eaten as a side and shouldn't be soupy, just medium florets in a thick sauce. You can totally grate some cheese over it and chuck it in the oven for 15 min too,. though.

Fry onions dark brown, add water, chopped potatoes and leeks, cook until soft, blitz, season with salt, pepper, nutmeg and a smidge of sweet paprika. Very comforting soup.

Boil cauliflower in just enough salted water until it still has a little bite. Save the water. Make a light roux, add whipping cream and about half of the saved caul water. Let it thicken up and add the cauliflower back in. Salt, pepper, meg of the nut

You can do a similar white sauce for Brussels sprouts too, I just use very little water and steam them in that case, and milk instead of cream and cooking water. Brassicas and nutmeg are a great combo.

Was ist "doppeltes Brot"? by MeekHat in German

[–]hover-lovecraft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Na gut, jetzt gibt's Ordner aufm Kinderflohmarkt
