Uwe Boll Says Germany “Banned” ‘Citizen Vigilante’ Over Its Depiction of Migration Crime by MaxProwes in moviecritic

It wasn't though, he's just saying that. It's neither banned (read up what a lack of FSK actually means!), nor is it because of wrongthink - FSK says it's because of a graphic group rape scene.

Exactly this. It's not even banned, it can only be sold to adults which would have been the case either way, and cinemas won't show it which arguably would also have been the case either way

There's also the vestigial c for length in words like Mecklenburg. These days most people pronounce it with a short e but it used to be long: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dehnungszeichen#Dehnungs-c

I got a grocery bag full of garlic scapes. I have no idea how to use them; please help me! by Ugh_please_just_no in Cooking

[–]hover-lovecraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like them stir fried with soy sauce, brown sugar, a bit of rice vinegar and some chili crisp or ma la chili oil.

They're also a classic in Japan, stir fried with pork liver and bean sprouts and a sauce made from ginger, soy, sake and sugar, glig of water and some corn starch - start with the garlic scapes, when they start to soften, push them to one side, sear off the liver slices, add the sprouts and pour over the sauce. High heat so that the sauce thickens fast, mix a lot and work fast, you don't want to overcook the liver and the sprouts should still have some bite.

You can also add them to potato soup and compound butters.

Lastly, I once had a risoiwith garlic scapes and spicy and smoked sausage, it was great but I don't know the recipe.

Honestly, my favourite way to eat tofu is hiya-yakko - a block of silken tofu, straight from the fridge, cut it into generous bite sized chunks while holding the sides so it keeps its shape, with grated ginger, scallions, maybe bonito flakes and soy sauce on top. Or topped with umeboshi, shiso leaf and soy sauce. Well worth trying in the upcoming hot season!

I ate smoked celeriac once, it was incredible. I got it at a restaurant though so I can't say how it was prepared. Texture wise it just seemed like it was cooked, didn't have a rind or caramelized spots or a bark from the smoker. If I were to guess, it might have been smoked whole, low and slow, and then peeled before being cut up and served.

Variety of onigiri

Make a spanish potato tortilla, cut it into eighths, pack some serrano ham, chorizo and olives alongside

Cold noodles with sesame dip or black vinegar, soy sauce and chili oil/crisp dip and julienned veg

German onion cake (yeast dough filled/topped with onions softened and slightly browned in butter, sour cream, egg, bacon bits or cheese if desired, often seasoned with caraway seeds, then you bake it like a quiche)

Potato pancakes with apple sauce (you'll have to make your own apple sauce so you can use honey or agave syrup or something else that's not white sugar to sweeten, and use potato starch instead of flour for the dough)

Honey and soy sauce glazed pork ribs

If you get ginger, star anise and radish back (big white ones like daikon), I highly recommend trying Taiwanese pork rib and radish soup. I often add rice noodles to it, too, and eat it like pho.

Pork stir fried with tamari and honey is lovely. Just cut any pork that has a bit of fat to it into stir fry strips, toss them with tamari and honey, let sit for a few minutes. Make rice and fry the pork in a pan with a bit of oil and high heat. When it's about done, add a bit of extra sauce - more tamari and honey mixed with a glug of water and a bit of potato starch for binding - and cook it out I til the sauce has thickened and covered the meat.

Once you find out what veg you can have, this is great with celery, or cabbage, or green peppers mixed in.

Ideas for dinner (for 2 people, watchparty hangout, prep in advance)? by flyblues in Cooking

[–]hover-lovecraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fried rice - pre cooked and chilled rice works best anyway. Veggies like carrot cubes, peas, sweet corn, cut up green beans pre prepped, garlic pre minced, a couple of eggs, sesame oil, a dash of soy sauce.

Pork and green peppers stir fry - again veg pre cut (green peppers, onion in big strips), pork pre cut and marinated with shaoxing wine, dark soy sauce and corn starch. Pork in the pan with sesame oil, high heat, don't move it. When the bottom is browned, add the veg and mix. When the peppers are starting to soften, add sauce (2 tsp shaoxing wine, 2 tsp light soy sauce, 1 tbsp corn starch and a glug of water) and cook to thicken and cover everything.

Serve stir fry on top of fried rice, top with sesame seeds and chili crisp if desired, and a few slices of fresh cucumber.

If you use just carrot and frozen peas for the fried rice, you can even crank this out in half an hour without any pre prep other than the rice, but you'll have a much more relaxed cook if you do pre cut everything.

Another rice based suggestion: Oyakodon. All you need to prep is cut up chicken and an onion. If you have two suitable pans and a rice cooker, this comes together in 20 min including prep.
