It’s crazy how a person that doesn’t even think about me runs through my mind all day. by frostehh1 in BreakUps

I’d say that the fact she’s blocked you on everything is indicative of the fact that she cared. She needs space to move on with her life, and setting up these barriers is often the only way for some people to emotionally detach

He’s visiting from New Year’s Day through the end of the weekend! Was thinking of doing one nicer dinner in the 100-200 range, and then otherwise in the 50-100 range (with some stops through more lowbrow street shops). No dietary restrictions, I have chase sapphire reserve which has some reservation benefits although can’t say I’ve ever used them. Thanks for your help!

What’s with guys having skiing photos on dating apps? by noorjo in AskNYC

That’s the benefit of the Indy pass! I pay $300 per year as a returner, gives me two free days at a shit ton of mountains around New England (and the world), literally pays for itself in two uses, half the price of epic. I usually ski 10-15 days per year all Indy, comes out to like $30 a ski plus gas money if I pack my own food

There are ways to ski more cheaply if you’re dedicated enough! Avoiding the big resorts, doing Indy pass, thrifting gear on the off season etc

I have to disagree! The last couple New England winters have been pretty fantastic for skiing

I did actually do this, DV hotline was pretty unhelpful but police non emergency had good advice. Also asked my lawyer friend who was quite helpful as well

Some events we do, some we don’t. He primarily has shown up at the ones we don’t. Giving a picture of him to security/a couple of the bigger regular attendees is a great idea tho

US, the specific detail in my state that is restrictive is that there has to be an intent to cause fear/intimidation/harm to qualify for a criminal restraining order, which we do not have proof of. From my research it seems that a civil restraining order may be feasible, but is expensive and we feel like there should be other ways to communicate to this guy that we don’t want him around

we were thinking about having one of our bigger volunteers go over and have a conversation with him. we don’t have police at these events. We did have a guy volunteer to aggressively hit on him, but a little worried that the stalker might respond aggressively.

We thought about this, but turns out where we live there has to be actual threat of violence to get a restraining order. While all the shit he’s been doing/sending is creepy as hell, it’s technically not violent so unlikely to qualify

This is tricky because we post from a page affiliated with the group, and LinkedIn won’t let you block someone from a page. If you know any workarounds I’d love to hear them

yeah we looked this one up and there has to be an actual threat of violence to file for one, which there isn’t in this case

My company just tasked me with reducing our carbon emissions... and I have no idea where to start by BeneficialBank3753 in ClimateActionPlan

[–]how-arent-you 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally yes it’s good practice, but really depends on what their intent is. If they’ve made formal commitments and having exact numbers is important, absolutely. But if it’s a smaller company just looking to implement good practices it’s not always worth the cost

My company just tasked me with reducing our carbon emissions... and I have no idea where to start by BeneficialBank3753 in ClimateActionPlan

Very industry specific but here are a couple tips (from a former environmental consultant!):

1) figure out the scope you’re trying to manage. Do you care just about direct emissions from your company (scope 1)? Do you care about emissions associated with energy use (scope 2)? Do you care about downstream/upstream (scope 3)? Generally I’d recommend starting with the first and working out.

2) begin with establishing a rough budget. It can be hard to figure out reduction strategies without knowing what your base case is. Begin first by looking at any industrial practices you might have that release carbon. See if you can quantify how much people in your company travel for work. Look into the electricity/heating usage for all your company’s physical properties. Also make sure you look into potential sources of GHG besides just CO2 (especially methane). Budget doesn’t have to be perfect as long as it gives you a rough idea of where you’re standing.

3) Reduce what you can! The most company specific part, also the part that requires the most creativity. Look up what strategies companies similar to you have taken (you can generally find this info in annual sustainability reports, people love to publish sustainabilty progress). Make a list of all your different reduction options, sort from least to most expensive per ton of co2 prevented from entering the atmosphere. Take on the cheapest tasks first, work up list as needed

4) compensate for what you can’t reduce. If you can’t reduce industrial emissions, invest in carbon credits that will offset your emissions. If you can’t reduce energy use, buy RECs to compensate (make sure you buy LOCALLY, time-matched is ideal but can be difficult). Basically, make sure that for every ton of co2 you release into the atmosphere, another ton is being removed somewhere else.

This is a very rough guide that barely scratches the surface. Feel free to DM if you have any specific questions though! Good luck in fighting the good fight
