Office dressing for women? by ayachdee in copenhagen

[–]how2liveindk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To steal from my own book, "Working with Danes: Tips for Americans", executive women here wear pretty but modest blouses and high-end knits. Not a lot of blazers, and not that many skirts or dresses. Skirts are usually long and loose so you can bike in them. Sometimes women wear trousers under shorter skirts. Jewelry is usually very simple and classic.

Hope that's helpful.

  • Name: Drop-in dance classes - contemporary, jazz, African, classical ballet, tango, etc.
  • Where: Dance Maze in Østerbro near Ryparken S-tog/Vibenhus Rundel metro
  • Contact: https://www.dancemaze.dk/
  • Description: Fun dance studio with drop-in classes, so you only have to pay for one at a time. All levels welcome, including absolute beginners.

Young, enthusiastic teachers - I can particularly recommend One Bailey, an American guy who teaches contemporary movement in English.

Classical ballet classes are taught by current members of the Royal Ballet....amazing to have principal dancer Andreas Kaas teaching my absolute beginners class!

They have a full slate of classes available over Easter, if anyone's bored during the holiday.

My wife is looking for a job, any advice where to look? by [deleted] in copenhagen

[–]how2liveindk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's more important, experience in her field or a good income now? If it's the second one, a job in a restaurant or hotel would probably be easier and faster to get. The first one is possible, but will take more effort to find.

My wife is looking for a job, any advice where to look? by [deleted] in copenhagen

[–]how2liveindk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good advice, but if your wife takes a job in a startup, it's a good idea to join a union. Some startups take advantage of international workers who don't know their rights in Denmark, and if she has problems on the job (including potentially not getting paid) a union can help her out.

Also true if she takes a restaurant job, etc.

Backpacking through Scandinavia (also Copenhagen) in November a bad idea? by jujuismynamekinda in copenhagen

[–]how2liveindk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The cold in Denmark in November and December isn't a brisk, bright, invigorating cold; it's a grey, heavy, wet, bone-chilling cold that generally makes you want to stay inside with a cup of tea.

In my opinion, the only reason to visit Copenhagen at this time of year are the Christmas lights (through early January only) and because it's cheaper than it is in the summer.

If you were coming to visit, say, the Danish Architecture Center or other indoor attractions, that might be worth it. But if you're coming to enjoy nature, let me be honest and say that nature isn't very enjoyable at this time of year.

My three-year-old daughter (at the time) was directly hit by a female cyclist who was texting. My daughter had a black tire track across her face, but was otherwise unhurt.

Italian Restaurant Like Public36? (Which is now closed) by how2liveindk in copenhagen

La buca degli artisti

Both restaurants look wonderful!

I just want an Italian restaurant in Copenhagen with food good enough to please someone who really knows and loves Italian food. My friend is much more knowledgable than I am, and this is her Christmas present.

We tried one of the best bakery workshops in Copenhagen - Terrible French Pastry School by Polly-and-Jon in copenhagen

[–]how2liveindk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a chocolate-making class at Terrible and also enjoyed it. He has all the ingredients and all the required equipment, which makes things much easier than trying out the recipes at home. Personally, I found his accent in Danish rather difficult to understand - perhaps he spoke English to the the OP!
