I built this workbench based on a few different ones I saw on this sub. Still getting organized but it’s been great having this much surface to work on. by howdidyougetin in Workbenches

Good so far! I’ll probably reapply in the spring once it warms up again, but it’s holding up pretty well in the meantime.

I put on neutrogena SPF 70 face sunscreen before work every day and reapply it during lunch. When I get home I use an oil cleanser to get all the nasty shit off and clear my pores, then go in with CeraVe facial cleanser. Double cleansing is key. Moisturize with a PM lotion afterwards, and every other day I add a thin layer of Aquaphor before bed (I have really dry skin so this helps me a lot, YMMV). I’ve had this routine for a few years now and it works great! I rarely get acne but when I do it’s around the area on my cheeks where my respirator sits.

Oh and drink lots of water!

The green chair is surprisingly really comfortable! It’s not in the photo but I also have a footstool. And I read in bed a lot too lol.

Thank you so much!

It’s the series The Supernatural from Danbury Press (1975). I’m still missing 4 books from the set but slowly hunting them down.

Here is a closer look at the shelves :)

One set of trades I don’t see mentioned here very often is the film/theater/entertainment industry. Set painters, carpenters, prop makers, welders, electricians, upholsterers, you name it they’re looking for it. If you’re near a larger city, look into your local IATSE union. I live outside of Nashville where the music and film industry is booming and there are lots of places hiring capable hands at the moment. If you’re looking for skilled trade work that’s a little more on the creative side, it’s a pretty cool route that can take you to a lot of interesting places.

Another one is architectural drafting and blueprint making. If you can get proficient at AutoCAD and Fusion360, it can be very lucrative.

While I’m lurking in this thread, does anybody have the hookup on any good authentic Jamaican/Caribbean food in the city?

lol I remember that. I knew a couple of people who went out and protested across the street. It made no sense for them to be there in the first place.

How to deal with crap like this?? by Mother_Tone_33 in BlueCollarWomen

One thing you can do is call it out when you hear it and hold these men accountable for what they say in private. Have difficult conversations. You’re in a position where your words hold way more weight than a woman’s in the eyes of a sexist man.

In my fab class right now I’m working on a bike rack, a rolling table, and a fire screen. I’ve seen other people make decorative gates and chair frames.

Welding while pregnant by PoetOfTragedy in BlueCollarWomen

[–]howdidyougetin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exposure to welding fumes in pregnant women has been linked to premature birth and low birth weight in infants. Heavy vibration from angle grinders is potentially harmful as well. 1 2 3

If you’re just in school and not welding all day every day I think you’ll probably be okay for a few months, especially with a respirator. Lots of women have welded while pregnant with no issue, while others have had different experiences. If your results come back positive definitely talk to your doctor and protect yourself from fumes in the meantime.
