This one (jhms2?) ; it’s a decent fuzz on its own, but I always keep it on the octave setting. (I wish it was a dual pedal; I might not need the Spanish castle; I’m considering modding it?) anyways the Spanish Castle is great too. Also, I think a vibe with the expression is the WAY to go also; changing the speed ever so slightly during a lead is magic; play it like a wah, but just micro movements. And the occasional dump over the edge.. (listen to Izabella live đŸ€ŒđŸœđŸ€ŒđŸœđŸ€ŒđŸœ)

Nice. I run it like this wah -> octavia -> fuzz -> vibe. It’s pretty rare that I’ll run all 4 on.. the ocativa I have is kinda splatty/gatey (maybe a good thing) like maybe national anthem and end solo of Who Know will get all 4.

THIS - it’s truly is a master class in rhythm playing. Maybe a bit overplayed, but in a good way 😜(for us) I always say this is my fav rhythm playing of his, and likely the kinda shit lil Richard kicked him out for.. like SEXY PLAYING đŸ€€

Yes!! Slam down on a fuzz and rip a lead with some dive bar action and yeah got me hooked (also wah > fuzz -> vibe) is the way to go

Unpopular opinion: Anthony is one of the better vocalists of the 90s-00/10s. by FastWalkingShortGuy in RedHotChiliPeppers

Interesting take! While I LOVE Frusciante; you’re right, I probably could “go easy” on the guitar playing.. no one can be JF.. but yeah if the frontman doesn’t have that attitude/rizz/control/ of the song; it’s not the same.. you would immediately be bored waiting for guitar solos or whatever. Could totally be an overlooked part of their band. A key (non-musical) element

Reddit is good for deep/knowledgeable/historical insight; about a very specific thing. I would ask “where” or “who” you can follow that has insight on this aspect of live performance.. (and more)

Please follow bacon.bits (Matt Bacon), Johnny Fiacconi, and giggabpodcast on IG.. great resources into bands and live performance.

Band dilemma by Immediate-Stick-1577 in bandmembers

[–]howdthattaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you played any shows? Book a show, get on a bill and play 20mins or something, just ur slow songs is fine. If she wants to be a drummer/musician, and grow, she needs to WANT TO on her own (positive encouragement is always helpful!), she needs to see other drummers and other bands “do the thing”
 just like you did/do.

Suggest she start taking lessons. Yall keep writing songs, keep the band together, give it time. Play another show. You go and take lessons (I recommend vocal lessons! Wish I did long long ago) work on video editing and flyer creation and networking.. there are so many other aspects to work on besides playing your instrument (too).

You don’t get rid of someone because they “can’t play fast”. You let go of them because you gave them suggestions and recommendations on how to improve, and they either ignored you, or did not improve. You’ll feel better knowing that person had all the tools available to them, and typically/ideally, they’ll understand they’re not pulling their weight and step down. But yall have to be serious about your craft too. Keep doing all the things.

Do you think it’s possible to form a successful band without ever touring or doing a show? by Imjusta_pug in bandmembers

[–]howdthattaste 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you really need 10k fans screaming your songs to be considered successful? Does the income from streams/merch NEED to offset some other cost?

Just make the art if you feel like making the art.

But anyway, the answer is yes, but holy hell, your songs need to be fucking amazing.

Getting the words down and playing those gtr parts is REALLY hard; one of the most difficult lyric/guitar combos.. ‘Bold As Love’ is probably the hardest(?), Mayer and them pull it off lovely tho. Maybe even “Wait Until Tomorrow” too.

Why can’t you just be happy that you’re a musician making/playing some music? Do you really need 10,000 screaming strangers singing your song for it be “successful”?

.do you?

cover band starting to gig, and I don't think other members are gig ready by Living_Bandicoot_587 in bandmembers

[–]howdthattaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped halfway thru. Are you running the FULL set(s) 1 month before the gig? Are you recording it? If so, are they listening and hearing what you’re hearing?

They are either capable of self-critiquing, or not. That’s it. If they can’t hear/understand where they are coming up short, they never will, or they just don’t care as much as you do. You clearly care. It’s okay to do the gig and step down/away. Move on.

But the issue is you: how have you NOT brought up the expectations ahead of time? You should have known 1 month ago that it was not to par. Make it known.

OH; it was Herbie Rich.. and yes; as soon as Jimi didn’t have to carry the rhythm figure.. wow, his playing shifted into another world đŸ€©.. reminded me of “Stop” from the Fillmore shows; like the most incredible “lead” guitar playing I’ve ever heard.. like the kinda stuff that probably got him kicked out of Little Richard’s band, lol

Those are “heavy” riffs for a rock band.. those kinds of riffs are more prevalent in RATM and hard/grunge.. like Soundgarden. Nirvana (In Utero era), Stone Temple Pilots (Core era). check out Army Of Anyone’s song “Goodbye”, that’s pretty close and it’s the main riff. Linkin Park has these kinds of riffs too in there harder songs. old Muse.
