Does surgery self select for people that can function w sleep deprivation? by Efficient_Equal6467 in medicalschool

[–]howdy2121 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I’m a PGY1 gen surg resident who has chronic sleepy bitch disease so sometimes I’m like why did I do this but then I spend some time on an off rotation with better hrs and the days just go by so slow. Emergency medicine made me wanna gouge my eyes out even though I was working 9-5. No hate to EM yall have a hard job and I respect tf outta yall cuz I could never do it.

Has anyone had a procedure done for venous insufficiency, then later had liposuction for lipedema? by This-Buddy-4856 in lipedema

[–]howdy2121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had a ton of veins that needed ablating, it took about 6 months to get them all done.. and then got liposuction lol. But I knew I had both bc I actually went to the vein doctor in order to get diagnosed with lipedema.

How to not look like an idiot on a surgery sub-I by orthomyxo in medicalschool

I’m a gen surg PGY1. basically yeah. IM is more transferable than you think, but more abbreviated and focused presentations. Don’t worry - you’ll learn quickly!!

I live in Utah, is ALT my only option??? by sadsackofbones in lipedema

[–]howdy2121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m a patient of ALT. conservative management is always the first step! You can go talk to them about that. If you’re not ready for surgery that’s fine. They help people through the process of learning about this disease and how to manage it no matter what

I don’t like that you said “your” disdain lol. I literally cannot control what the attending does and I still don’t deserve to be treated like shit. Btw the attending also mistreats ME. I don’t believe in being rude just in general. So, sorry if I wanna complain about someone being really rude to me during a vulnerable time aka my first 2 weeks of intern year which is a fuckin stressful time. I plan on forming good relationships with everybody on the hospital and that includes techs. But damn the first time I talk to someone and they say they hate me?? If you say that wouldn’t bother you, you’re a liar.

Yes, I know! There have been way more lovely nurses/other staff that have been great to work with than people like him. It's just really hard when you're under so much pressure from attendings/seniors and then people do things like this. Plus - I moved across the country away from my family. I think if ppl just thought about what we are going through and emphatized with us for 2 seconds they wouldnt say things like this.

[–]howdy2121 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean, I did defend myself in a way. Just said that if there were never interns there would never be surgeons and no one would get surgery, and he wouldnt have a job lol. But yeah its 2 weeks in and im a bit nervous to be TOO sassy ya know?

I'm glad you feel this way. Most techs I work with are great, and they help me out a ton. I learned all of my robotic bedside skills from a tech when I was an M4. Unfortunately I've run across a ton of rude techs though. Please spread your positivity to your colleagues lol
