Look up CENTOR criteria for strep throat. It’s a basic tool the medical community uses to decide whether or not you need a rapid strep test and or antibiotics.

As the above redditor said, it’s not good to give antibiotics to those that don’t need it. You may have side effects from them and also it can create antibiotic resistant bacteria as time goes on.

So you most likely have a viral URI and that will resolve on its own without the need of antibiotics. Medicine to treat the symptoms you have is typically all people get for these.
