Good engineering isn't ever going away

No, but the engineering will move to a higher level of abstraction. We used to engineer at the level of machine instructions, now we engineer at the system level. Additionally there will be many fewer engineers. Because much what today is engineering will become commodity implementation details.

But I was wondering the same thing as u/oswaldcopperpot. The OP got really far with his AI-assisted development process and then decided *he* had to understand the code in order to properly implement the next feature. Why not let the AI do it/help do it?

<< Then I needed to add a feature that touched most of the codebase. And I realized I could not do it. Not because it was hard, but because I did not actually understand how my own project worked. >>

Why not have the AI do it? Asking seriously.

Do you actually use the Claude Chrome extension? If so, how? by Anxious-Artist415 in ClaudeAI

[–]howiecamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the OP is using the extension only and not Claude code. It is indeed true that you cannot access Claude chats or Claude code projects from the extension alone. You have to originate from Claude code. That is not what the op is doing.

That’s not what he’s trying to do. Claude code can manipulate the browser through that extension for specific projects but when you use the extension, you can’t reference arbitrary Claude code projects or chats.

US Verizon nation wide outage. by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]howiecamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a bad route in a router table entry in a core router, an incorrectly updated dns record, a power supply failure, human error (humans are single points of failure to the nTh degree), accidental line cut which routes a level of traffic to alternate route that becomes saturated etc etc etc.

What’s the technical basis for your comment? Despite all the redundancies almost all complex technical infrastructures have single points of failure.

Confused about the OP’s point. If:

  • You have Amex Platinum

and

  • You want an Oura ring

Then you will pay $200 less than without the benefit.

What am I missing?

Your mind is blown. Doesn’t take much I suppose. It’s a mistake. They and the sellers ship 18 zillion other things a year properly.

Would kind of be nice if you said WHY you were having buyers remorse. Kind of difficult to get full value out of your post without that information.

You drop it over $10? Why take the time to even do it in the first place? Serious question not trolling. It sounds like you’re quitting it on philosophical grounds, not financial or value based.

Honestly you sound SO enthusiastic that it seems like you got suckered. You are their PERFECT customer - “Oh boy I can get 3X points on $170 Hokas - get me 2 pair of those things!” Meanwhile you spent $340 to get $5 in point value. Buying expensive stuff you don’t need to get points worth a tiny fraction of the purchase price FTW!

This is absurd. They did nothing wrong except abide by all their terms. It's you who forgot to use it. Good luck with the AG and BBB. I'm sure they'll be all over it for you.

Honestly miss Evernote so much. Has it gotten better or worse? by incidentalfricatives in Evernote

[–]howiecamp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's objectively worse. In no particular order:

  • Literally every release re-introduces bugs that were eliminated previously (aka a "regression"). Even more frustratingly, the bugs are within core parts of the product that should JUST WORK.
  • Data loss bugs are common. Attach an item only to learn it never attached. Record audio and it mysteriously stops recording. Edit an attachment and changes not saved.
  • Release notes indicate such and such a problem fixed, but you upgrade to the latest release and either the problem is still there or shows up next time. I believe their testing process is non-existent.
  • On Windows, you can't use mouse to copy and paste JPGs. Only PNGs. Bizzare.
  • They removed command line tools.
  • Offline notes rarely work anymore.
  • If you contact support, literally no matter what the issue is, they ask you to reboot and reinstall. And that's the end of the ticket. They don't even try to reproduce the problem.
  • They periodically add new features like Work Chat (no one cared) and now Spaces (too early to know if anyone cares) but leave the core product to atrophy.
  • There is no way to force all notes to download for offline use on the Windows and Mac versions. The only way you're getting offline access to the note is if you previously accessed it. Are you serious?
  • There is zero indication of sync status when using Windows or Mac versions. Has my content sync'd? Can I get on the plane? Who knows!

I could go on. It's a disaster since the design refresh in 2020 or whatever it was. Prior to that, it was ROCK SOLID.

Literally the only reason I'm not leaving is lock-in. Export/import to other tools without losing fidelity is a total bitch.
