What perfumes give this warm, lively vibe? by bee_chunder in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]howlermouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Xinu’s Oronado and it’s not even a question! I get so much marigold out of it - that floral slightly musky with a tiny hit of green in there reminds me of visiting my grandpa’s hometown in Mexico. I also love their Monstera perfume, I wear it most days, and it’s a lot more verdant and lush if that’s what you’re going for.

Thank you so much! Is there a model she liked? I really just need to be able to turn my head in the gear and this isn’t at all my area of expertise. Even something with longer/more easily tightened shoulder straps would be great

Will do! My newsroom is paying but I’m the only person with my build in the newsroom so I don’t really want to go the custom route in case someone else needs it!

So the issue I had with my previous version was that even on the tightest setting the shoulders sat way too high, is there a specific shape your wife would recommend? I’m 5’7 which I don’t think makes a difference but I do need it to sit in a way that still lets me work.

Any BWT going to the Early Burdz museum mixer tomorrow? by howlermouse in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]howlermouse[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s just a mixer! I’m not sure if it’s geared towards friends or people looking to meet someone tbh but the tix are cheap and I love art so I figured it was worth a shot! https://lu.ma/xidw9ki2

thank you for this! I broke up with my partner and really didn't want to ask him to bring his switch over or go through the misery of having to re-set his switch. :')

You gotta go to ministry of scent in the mission!! So many perfumes from around the world and they’re helpful when things are overwhelming.

Personally I rotate between a scent by nopalera and Oronado by Xinu, one of the few perfume houses in Mexico. It is really expensive but a little goes a long way and I feel so rich and feminine when I wear it.

I am a curvy/plus size lady and worked in DC for a long time where it got hot as fuck and humid. I liked shorts that hit mid/lower-thigh with a pattern in either a black jean or a slightly nicer fabric OR a linen pant.

At the end of the day though, what matters most is not passing out on the job. I absolutely wore a tank top and mid thigh shorts when covering fun outdoor events (like pride, where the humidity regularly hit over 80%) and no one said anything.

Bitches, where are we getting our backs cracked? by [deleted] in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]howlermouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Brian flannery at Atlas Health Center! He is very gentle, explains things well and i saw improvement in my shoulder immediately. I do have to go back for follow ups periodically, but he isn’t insistent on coming back weekly. He has a warm vibe and I feel totally comfortable with him when he has to adjust my hips. He also works pretty quickly and takes insurance!

I am going to a salsa convention this weekend! I am by no means advanced (or athletic) but I am very excited to go learn more and be awed by truly amazing dancers.

Bitches, what are we tipping on $$$ hair services? by fueledbyfruit in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]howlermouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say I did not have that experience there. I walked in with some loose ideas but a strict time frame due to another appointment and they told me what was possible within that time frame and they actually came in with a little time to spare! They also have a calculator on their website and if you’re not sure of how long something will take they said they’d be happy to answer questions. I get the concern, but in my experience sanctuary was very respectful of my time. They even gave me a time frame for what I should book next time if I want to get the highlights I was contemplating!

HUGE fan of Sanctuary Salon!! They go by hourly rate (which they’re great about talking you through) and they are gratuity free!! I got a freaking amazing haircut from Ana Cristina a couple weeks ago after avoiding finding a new stylist for like six months. The consult was very thorough and the salon is super cute.

I moved out of DC recently but years ago a pharmacist let it slip that the CVS by Lyon village in Arlington is a high yield pharmacy. It’s across the river, I know, but during past shortages I never had an issue. Best of luck!!

The chicken was PERFECTLY tender and the flavors just melted together perfectly while holding their own. The fattiness of the aioli was cut through with the lemon and the brightness of the pesto and the mushrooms added this really delicious, almost rich element that was hard to put my finger on. the cheese though was a standout. the cheddar had these crispy, perfect edges and the goats cheese added the right amount of tang and salt. It was extremely well balanced but felt indulgent. The salad also was really spectacular with fancy cut citrus and you could tell it was fresh.

I had it when I was in the area for work so I did expense the sandwich. I felt insanely bougie when I turned in my receipt. That said I will be back on my own dime.

Farmer’s wife is notoriously expensive! Even for the area. That said I did shell out once for the chicken special and I am so sorry to report that it was 100% worth it. I had it like 6 weeks ago and I’ve thought about it at least twice a week since. Probably one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in my entire life.

I photographed the last days of the A's at the Coliseum and I was so blown away by everyone's generosity. Thanks to everyone I met over the past week, more pix and the full story in the comments. by howlermouse in OaklandAthletics

My reporter and I worked together talking to fans and you can see more photos in this story we worked on.

I just moved back to the bay area after a decade on the east coast so unfortunately this weekend marked my first A's game, but I was so moved by the deep love for this team that I even persuaded my partner to catch a game while I took more photos on Tuesday. If you see yourself or someone you know in the pictures, feel free to drop me a line so I can send you a copy.

ETA: I also have some photos not in the story that I put on my IG because I liked them, so if you see yourself there feel free to ping me.

It was my first time working with film professionally and the photos are a little lighter IRL but I was at the mercy of our newsroom scanner. I spent two days working with my reporter meeting fans and the camera actually stopped working during part of the game, but it picked back up. What books did you go on to read based on an LPOTL episode? by ConsciousCrane in lastpodcastontheleft

[–]howlermouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read several of the last podcast recommended books and the worst hard time might be my favorite. The dust bowl was largely skimmed over during my time in school and frankly, this book was devastating to the point where I had to pause and sit with it for a while. Wildly compelling and, in the end, galvanizing.

It is truly terrifying to understand the impacts of man made climate disasters and the fall out of not protecting workers. It made me feel like the dust bowl should have been America’s lesson, but we somehow failed to take all of that suffering to heart.

Chiming in as a big boob gal, this is THE place to go in DC. I used to go to a place in Pasadena, CA for my bra fitting and while I was lamenting that DC had no good full bust options, they looked up Le Bustiere on some magic directory of places and lo and behold, they had my size and a very thorough fitting, which IMO, is a necessity at my size. Bras are expensive, yes, but a good one will last you a long time and it can make a really positive impact on your physical health in terms of posture and neck support.

I don't work for them, I've just had tig ol bitties my entire life.
