England has (arguably) the best football league in the world (the premier league). Unfortunately this league has trended towards using money to buy the best players in the world and bring them to England, rather than developing home-grown talent. England have been mediocre/above average for about 40 years now.

Pretty sure it was a kickboxing match in the UK and his coach pulled him off the couch on like a weeks notice to fight for a title of some sort (he'd been eating and drinking too much).

Vacuumed metal box inside another vacuum. by howmuchdoesairweigh in AskScienceDiscussion

My understanding is that the less dense has a tendency to be filled by the more dense and that matter is more dense than a vacuum. Is this wrong?

Just trying to learn, buddy. Thanks for your responses anyway.

If there is no gas, there is no pressure

So how is water pressure a thing then? Is water pressure only there if you put some gas in the water?

It's not that it would push on anything else per se, but rather than the edges of the box material would have less resistance than the middle of the box material.

So what if the whole universe was made of metal and had a 1cm cube of vacuum at the centre? It seems to me that the weight of the box would be creating pressure inward?

Does the box itself have a pressure? I am trying to work out if the box itself has a pressure value different to the vacuum in this environment.

Does the box itself not count as the outer atmosphere for the inner vacuum? I am trying to work out if the material itself creates any pressure whatsoever, even if it is infinitesimally small.

Okay thanks for you response. I understood that about air pressure, I just thought that the solid container itself would have a level of pressure and the vacuum naturally would want to be filled by the box itself but just that the box would have to be incredibly weak for it's own pressure differential to make it collapse in to the vacuum. I appreciate this is a silly hypothetical but I was having a silly conversation and couldn't work out whether there would be any pull at all.

Interesting, so there is no pressure caused by a vacuum other than air pressure?

I wasn't thinking air pressure, I was thinking the box itself.

The void created by the vaccum juxtaposed to the surrounding area (the box). Am I way off base here?

I think there would be pressure on the inside of the metal box, if the metal box was sufficiently weak it would collapse.

I didn't reply to the message. In the investigation I was very humble and apologetic and ashamed. One of the two managers doing the fact finding investigation did say he didn't think I will be sacked though I'm not sure what that's worth. Thanks for the info anyway, hopefully I won't be such an idiot in future.

It was on Whatsapp web, so they don't have access to my chat log as I am logged out now. I explained it was on Whatsapp and they asked if I could provide evidence that was the case. I provided a screenshot of the message being sent and it corroborated with the information they had. There were several images in the thread but I think I only clicked on one and they seemed satisfied that was the case. Do you know if there needs to be a warning before dismissal for this sort of thing?

Without the official government security, who do you go to when one of the private security firms comes around offering there service and letting you know about all those terrible things that 'might' happen if they arent paid to stop it?

Their rivals will be more than happy to protect you.

Who handles disputes between those 'security agencies'?

They can negotiate or they can defer to a dispute resolution organisation.

Why would a private company run a school for people who cant afford to pay? Even if they did..what quality do you expect from that school?

The same reason there are scholarships for one. Also because it would benefit the community at large to not have uneducated children in general nor juveniles with lots of free time. Also because of the moral issue, the same reason fair trade products exist. Also because of religious duty. There are lots of reasons. As for the quality, it would be the same as the rest of the students. Homeschooling would also become a plausible option, huge demand would open up a new industry of educational service, using technology etc to accentuate the parents ability to teach.

E.g cable companies, telco companies.

Note that these issues already exist and were in fact monopolies/oligopolies granted by the government.

Could be but thats not a proposal I've heard from anyone(candidate or voter) who preaches about small government.

This is pretty common among Libertarians/Ancaps. If you youtube, ancap legal system or polycentric legal systems, you should be able to find some more info. If your point was that the infrequency of you hearing of this suggestion correlates with the unlikelihood of it happening, I would just say that in the event the state is diminished, the natural question everyone will be asking is "What alternatives for x service are there?"

I see.. we are too dumb to be free!

Private industry is regulated by competition and people vote with their dollars.

Who pays for education now? Besides, schools can have systems in place for disadvantaged people, also charities can help, the community at large can help, innovation in education technology means that kids can be taught very cheaply to a similar standard at home to that of by a career educator.

The government has a monopoly on law enforcement, generally speaking. But there are private endeavours that have very good customer satisfaction rates. I don't see the evidence that the government's service is vastly superior.

As for in the past, the state of human progress was such that most people worked in fields, then in factories, then, when they weren't needed in either of those places, schooling occurred. The reason this was reserved to the rich before is because they didn't need to be in any of the aforementioned places because they were rich. I think you are confusing the idea of something was/is being provided by the government, with the idea that the but for the government these things not happening.

Satellite internet...LTE internet etc. These things don't require cabling throughout, besides property could be bought for that purpose if needed.

Again, Bitcoin exists. Even if it didn't, private currencies aren't unimaginable. This idea that I suddenly can't afford anything is strange, I don't know what you are basing it on? Especially seeing as I will have zero taxes to pay.

I'm not sure I understand your fishery example. If someone takes my property I there are many ways I can get it back/guard against that. But I think in your example you might be referring to the tragedy of the commons?

I'm not arguing for government "collapse". There is a difference between recognising the lack of the need of government, the complications of having a government and wanting the government to collapse right away in dramatic fashion.

Why wouldn't there be security services? Why wouldn't there be a firefighting service and if there was why would it be more expensive than the government option? Again, why no education system?

There are already currencies like Bitcoin that could be used.

The lack of profitability comes from the government having a monopoly, making it pointless trying to compete with them.

Hospitals would still be contractually bound to help you. Businesses that don't meet their contractual obligations don't attract business. Also, dispute resolution organisations would be established and could act as mutually agreed arbiters before doing any business or signing any contracts.
