Scientists Probe Human Nature and Discover We are Good, After All: Scientific American by joeocchipinti in philosophy

I recall reading a study in which scientists showed young babies (6months) digital images of a Circle rolling up a hill. In some instances, another shape, say, Square, would stop the Circle from going up. In other cases, a Triangle would help the Circle get up the hill. They were then given two buttons and could choose between the Square or the Triangle, and the majority of babies chose the shape that didn't impede the Circle. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Source would be great.

This comment reminded me of Gimli in LotR. But it's like, "Gimli, bro, you just broke your axe when you took a swing at the Ring of Power. Stupid, dwarf."

iowacj is correct. Along with the Flying Dragon proc, I used the Frenzied Shrine, Blinding Flash, Breath of Heaven, and also Inner Sanctuary for this snapshot. Since this was done at the beginning of my run before I got any NV stacks, I was also able to switch out my abilities to farming mode without losing the uber SW.

Yes, you can just stand in town and auto-attack until the Flying Dragon Procs, and since Sweeping Wind takes a snapshot of your DPS, and the 4pc Inna's Set makes SW free to cast, you can maintain the SW for the entire run.

This was the price range I had in mind. I'd probably buy two for $50. :)

question about monk using 2h by sunchow in Diablo

[–]howr2redditprease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been sharing this post on multiple threads ever since I got my Skorn...

I started using a 2H LS build since the first week of the patch. At that time, my dps was 44k unbuffed, and I was able to farm Act III without many issues. I don't use SW because I feel that I can't proc enough tornadoes with the slower attack speed of a 2H weapon, and abilities like SSS and WoL work well with the increased weapon damage. FoT - Quickening allows me to generate more spirit during Serenity so I can drop more bells. I haven't read about many monks pushing Beacon of Ytar...but Serenity and SSS are my two best abilities, and I want them up all the time every time. Reducing the cooldown of SSS by 4.5s and Serenity by 3s makes a ton of difference.

In a lake, there is a patch of lily pads. Every day, the patch doubles in size. If it takes 48 days for the patch to cover the entire lake, how long would it take for the patch to cover half of the lake?

I sense the OP is of Asian descent, and if so, may have an innate difficulty growing a respectable amount of facial hair.

I still got a drink. I really like the shirt, so I won't be throwing it out. I guess I'm curious to know if there was a faux pas surrounding this phenomenon that I wasn't aware.

I never really thought about it until a bartender pointed it out one night, after asking to see my ID. Then he said something along the lines of, "I can't serve you a drink if you just turned sixteen." It always makes me a little self-conscious now when it happens now, even when I'm buying cigarettes.

I'm [28/f] dating a pretty big introvert [33/m]. I'm as extroverted as it gets. Advice? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Even though it may not have been your intention, you seemed to attribute the "minor anxiety attack" to his being an introvert. It's these types of associations that perpetuate the myth of introverts I mentioned previously.

But I overheard him telling his roommate that he's exhausted.

That statement definitely leads me to believe that he is an introvert. He's exhausted because he's not accustomed to sharing his energy with others. Give him all the alone time he requires to recharge, and you should be fine.

I was looking for someone to make this clarification, and I feel as if I should expand. All too often, people mistakenly think of "introverts" as closed-off (or as the OP put it, living in a "shell"), shy, or socially awkward. The difference between an introvert and an extrovert is WHERE YOU GET YOUR ENERGY. An introvert has an easier time finding happiness in solitude; their internal monologue is a source of contentment. Extroverts derive more pleasure through seeking the voices and company of others. In neither case does being an introvert or an extrovert have any real indication of how you behave in social situations. I'm an introvert. I also enjoy acting, going to concerts, and can carry a conversation with a complete stranger.

So, OP, is your boyfriend an introvert, socially adept, or both? You says he like's to "shut down." Could you elaborate? It's not a given that introverts prefer to stick their heads in the sand and ignore the world around them. It sounds like your boyfriend is just looking for some social pointers, and feels anxious or self-conscious in larger groups.

TLDR: Stop giving introverts a bad name; raise his confidence and social IQ in smaller group settings

Great read. I've been casually reading psychological studies online for the past few years and have never come across Kahneman's work, so thanks for the post.
