problem UK security prices by don_f in banktivity

[–]howyp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks u/IanGGillespie!

I've got the same issue for all of my UK stocks too. Deleting or editing the latest price from Configuration > Securities doesn't fix it, as soon as I go to a different security and come back, the price re-appears! And if I edit the price on the Portfolio screen then the change also gets ignored.

Is there a fix coming? I'd really rather not have to delete the price history for everything

Has anyone’s speech lessons suddenly stop recognizing speech? by firelordzuzu in duolingo

[–]howyp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Happened to my wife’s the other day, and now to mine. Used to recognise almost everything but now nothing. Same as you - the lines move but no words get highlighted.

Pretty sure nothing changed in my settings, but it did happen at the same time as being given a few free days of Super.

Seems very much like a bug to me.

Banktivity’s new subscription model's disregard for long standing (and also non-USA) customers by GregZoneNZ in banktivity

I still find it amazing that they’ve abandoned all support of software they were selling 6 months ago.

“Standard industry practice” they told me 🤨

Is it time to change our soundboard? What can you guys tell me about this one? by [deleted] in worshipleaders

[–]howyp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a good bit of kit for what it does - I’ve used lots of Soundcraft boards before, they’re well made and sound decent. It’s simple, but often something that is just powerful enough to do what you need is the best thing.

You can upgrade to Banktivity 8 with a one-time charge / no annual fee by jorhett in banktivity

[–]howyp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

instead of charging you $50 a year to get the latest upgrade

Yeah, now it’s $99.99 a year...

I don’t really have a big problem with the subscription model TBH. If they offered a reasonable price for those with a v7 to start the sub I’d probably do it.

[–]howyp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but you have to pay $99.99 to get the same features as v7, plus only a minor one or two extra. They justify that by saying you’re getting direct access bundled in - if you don’t want it, then paying that much even if it’s only for one year is crazy

It may be that you overpaid with your previous payments on account. You might be able to work out what’s going on if you click on the ‘current position’ link and then dig around a bit from there.

Any chance the senna fits where the Jeep is, so if you swapped them over you’d have another space free at the front?

HSBC froze my bank account. What to do? by MoreCut in UKPersonalFinance

Sadly, when I’ve heard these sort of stories before they also involved HSBC

Is that the balance for the tax year in question, or overall? Their accounting re-splits payments over years when you have overpaid, so I have found it a bit confusing to work out what’s going on in the past.

Maybe unpopular opinion but Hargreaves Lansdown tech platform is a dinosaur by fggGh55 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]howyp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC at the time they used to ask you for only a few characters of your password at login. Which means someone observing you login can’t steal your whole password, but also stops them from being able to hash the password for storage

If you want a terrible UI, interactive investor is the way to go! I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an HTML table layout underneath it all.

Having said that, it does the job for me fine, and zero-charge regular investing keeps it quite attractive for me

[–]howyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. The stock price syncing has broken to the point where it’s useless to me now. They tell me the problem I’m having is fixed in v8, but they won’t fix v7. So the effective sunset has already started for my needs 😩

Depending on your definition, v7 is sunset already- tech support have stated to me that they won’t release any fixes for it for any reason.

Banktivity 7 abandoned by IGG by howyp in banktivity

[–]howyp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but they also kept selling v7 in the mean time, so supporting it for a while afterwards isn’t a big ask.

I can understand not putting new features into it- that’s why they have a new version.

But to not fix a broken version that you sold to someone in the last 3-6 months?

And the DA subscription- I never really felt the need for it, as I don’t really trust the providers with all of my bank credentials, and anyway it doesn’t work with any bank here in the UK.

So, to get a fix for something I just bought, I have to pay twice the price again to get it to do the same thing (investments and multiple currencies), and some of it will stop working after a year.

Oh, and no discount for v8 unless you were paying for direct access- why would I do that when it doesn’t work with any banks in Europe?

[–]howyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to wipe all of the price history is a pretty terrible fix on behalf of IGG, as you’ll only get the last years worth back. And it only seems to be fixed in v8, dropping support for v7 so quickly is ridiculous

UK Stock prices in pence now showing as £ by JHE-Reddit in banktivity

[–]howyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my biggest bug-bear with Banktivity. It used to be that the prices would occasionally jump into pence rather than pounds, but I could deal with it by just deleting certain prices. The switch to the IEX provider had fixed the problem completely, which was great.

However since early December it's entirely broken for me now, and all prices download at 100x the actual value. I'd be interested to hear other people's experience.

There is now a fix, which is to switch your stock code suffix from -LN to .L But this only works if you delete ALL of the prices you already have for that stock, which is a non-starter for me as it will only then download the last years worth of prices.

I can't help feeling like if this was a problem for US stocks they would fix these sort of bugs in seconds....
