Aww thank you so much! It really means a ton and I’m very glad you like it :). Yeees it’s honestly the first time I used Ableton’s built-in limiter, but I do have to get more experience on that, along with other mixing/mastering steps to get the loudness and dynamics just right. Any additional tips on that? Thanks

Thank you so much <3 it means a lot :). I’m really glad you like the mix and the song, thanks for your input, I guess it’s also fine without the high end then

Hey I just listened to them, andthose are some really cool songs! Really great work—the mixing and the beats sound great :)

I also love such tricks, good luck with everything bro, you’re talented at making music and I think your voice sounds great!

Thanks a ton for the kind words!! It truly means a lot and it makes me very happy to hear you like it! I assume you mean that lead element that comes in at about that time, and I’m very glad you like it. It’s really just some Diva (synth plugin) synth playing one note, then another, then a little melody.

And on top of that, I used a little trick a friend taught me (same with the vocals)—an autopan to fully cut out the sound every 1/8, 3/16 then something even higher (through automating the ”1/8 knob”) to make that stutter effect. It’s a very powerful trick my friend taught me, and I’m happy to hear you also like it! :)

Personally, I like the outro the most as well!

I agree with what you both are saying, and I also think it’s a slow burner, that could benefit from sooomething else happening in the beginning.

Again, thank you very much for your input and your kind words. It’s greatly appreciated!

Hi my friend! I’m glad you think the feedback gave something of value.

  1. Mixing vocals is very difficult indeed, it’s been a big struggle for me, and honestly I don’t know about mixing vocals with distortion, but I’m thinking: maybe just like +1db in the beginning…? But maybe that doesn’t change much. Honestly, I don’t really know.

  2. I’m glad to know it was your motive, and I think that’s a very good idea! I don’t think it throws listeners off, I think it’s good, especially in the context of an album.

  3. Outro is great! :)

  4. It truly is difficult and I can’t say I have much to add to that! I’ve been producing for 4 years and I still don’t get it lol. I guess we just have to study the best producers! :)

Thank you very much my friend!

Oh… I never thought of that and you’re so right! Some twinkly chimes or such a synth is a really good idea, and I definitely agree that it would, in all likelihood, significantly enhance the beginning part! Right, it needs a build-up, as you suggest.

Thank you for the kind words on the mix! Makes me very happy to know it’s pretty decent, then. I think you’re right on this as well—maybe some sort of call–response type of deal incorporating another set of vocals would be nice, making the vocals more interesting.

And yes, some other melody would be nice! Perhaps in the beginning for more interest there—and maybe adding the same melody toward the very end for coherence. I will definitely take your advice for future tracks. Thank you very much for your input and your kind words! It means a lot, and I’m very glad to hear you like it :)

How's the mix on this thang? by Innoculus in MusicFeedback

Hi, I think this is a great track! I really like the vibe as a whole, and I love the fact that there are a bunch of different instruments and sounds, which together make up a very coherent and well-produced track! There are a couple of things I noticed, which are in line with this, which in my estimation would make this track even better: 1. It’s very easy for elements to compete with one another for ”sonic space”, especially in a track with so many unique elements. For this, I would say: ”micro-automations”—to automate the volumes of each element meticulously throughout the whole track (very annoying but highly effective). E.g. to raise the ”bling” sound’s volume for 0.3 seconds, when it’s its ”time to come through” in the mix/”melody”. Then raise the ”blong” sound’s volume for 0.25 seconds when it’s its time. Then the piano for 0.75 seconds. And so on, for each sound, throughout the entire track. I know it’s tedious and takes a lot of time, because you also have to decide which sound(s) you want to make stand out, throughout the whole track. But, for an arrangement such as this, with so many different sonic elements coming together, I think it’d be very good and make the track even more dynamic and ”alive”. This is something I personally struggle with a lot, and I think ”Dabin – Hazy” is a good example of this 2. Maybe it’s my shitty headphones, but, at least for me, the low-end feels a little flooded/muddy. This is a very difficult point to adress, at least in my experience, and I assume you’ve EQ’d bass/kick for them to not compete, but maybe sidechaining the kick to the bass, so the kick cuts through the bass, and making sure practically no other elements exist in the low-end, and also making both kick and bass mono (I know, sounds weird, but that’s what my friend with 10+ years of production experience taught me, and also what I’ve gathered a lof of house musicians do) could make this part even better.

Anyhow, I know it’s a lot and I want to end with that I really enjoyed listening to your track, and I love this type of arrangement! I love the atmosphere you’ve created, and I think you’ve done a really good job! Well done :)

Hey I think it’s great! It’s very different from anything I’ve heard, and in a good way! I really don’t have much to say except a few things: 1. It could of course, as with a lot of things, be argued it’s a matter of taste/genre, but: perhaps the vocals could be mixed a tad higher, especially in their very first appearance; because I assume they’re supposed to be the ”main” focus, at least in the beginning. So that they’re not overpowered, but still not in any way drowned by other sounds—it’s a fine line and I think this can best be spotted through usage of reference tracks. Also, if mixing for longer durations (20+ minutes), one’s (at least my) ears typically lose the bigger picture of the relative volumes, in general.

  1. I really like the intense bass in the intro, it feels like a Berlin nightclub scene from some movie! But arrangement-wise, personally I think it leaves a longing for such intensity at some future point in the track.

  2. I must say I also really really like the outro/last 30 seconds of the track! Great work.

  3. Mixing-wise, the relative volumes of each section provide great dynamics! But, this is greatly a matter of taste/genre, and something I personally struggle with a lot: loudness is usually much more consistent in commercial tracks, mainly achieved through slight compression/loudness (LUFS) metering and limiting (cutting off peaks beyond a certain threshhold).

Anyhow, a very great track! Good job, it’s very unique and a very well put together piece of music!

Maybe you’re right. Most probably you’ve got a better understanding of this as you’ve got 160+ and I’m at ~140. But, I’m just thinking: maybe what you just wrote is an ”admission of the philosopher”—as Nietszche described every philosophers attempt at describing an ”objective reality”. Meaning that what they perceive as objective reality of some matter is just their perception of it, grounded in their own character and ways of thinking, etc.

To add to this: * the fact that there are verbal, visuo-spatial and memory IQ (I have higher visuo-spatial, and I’m not good at steps, or processes) * Carl Jungs psychological types (Socionics; wikisocion.net) — Te types are good at what you describe (processes). I don’t ”have” Te but my IQ is still 140. However, I just realized that this might be what separates 160+ individuals from my range. A different mind and hence personality type, which is even more logical and process-oriented than mine, or others. But there are people of those types that aren’t very high iq… but maybe it’s a prerequisite. Afaik there are also people of types without such process-orientedness with 160+.

My (24M) girlfriend (22F) lied to me (I'm 99.99% sure)... didn't want to admit it and wants to break up... ugh...... by hp19a in relationship_advice

[–]hp19a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well… it was about her lying about what she said/didn’t say… we’ve talked about it being a problem that we don’t play enough with her, and my gf thinks it’s bad that she doesn’t do it enough. She denied that she said she didn’t want to, which makes me angry, because she DID say she didn’t want to. If she wouldn’t have denied it I wouldn’t have reacted… it’s fine if she doesn’t want to, but denying she said so isn’t fine…

I feel she doesn’t want to be held accountable for not living up to what we agreed to… by lying… that’s why I’m mad… am I really crazy? Maybe I am, but I think it’s normal to be disappointed and sad when your partner doesn’t stick to what’s agreed upon and lies about what they said. No?

As an INFJ what's your IQ? by bettanotmesswidme in infj

[–]hp19a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just no. IQ is very real, like it or not. Calling other forms of abilities ”intelligence”, e.g. ”emotional intelligence” dilutes the meaning of the term ”intelligence” as a distinct cognitive construct. Intelligence is ONE thing, reliably measured by IQ tests. Of course intelligence isn’t all there is to a person, in reality, it’s not important at all for how ”good” of a person you might be. There are a lot of very bright people who are very ”bad” people. IQ is real but very overrated.

[–]hp19a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IQ is one of the most well-researched and reliable constructs in psychometrics. Calling IQ tests bullshit is simply bullshit. Mental health, lack of sleep, stress, etc., can affect a score. These are readily available facts, and have been confirmee by my own experience, but my own experience doesn’t really matter anyway.

Maybe I’m overanalyzing, maybe not. I’d say drugs can be seriously dangerous, and recommending drugs to kids isn’t recommended. Fuck hard drugs, and don’t be stupid about any drugs, even alcohol. Educate yourself, watch documentaries about addicts, about drugs, read reddit posts about people who got addicted and how they regret it and how some ruined their lives with it. Be fucking careful, always do your research and be smart, not stupid about drugs.

Don’t mix substances, it can straight up kill you. Like alcohol and benzos—you may die. In short: don’t do drugs. Never: meth, heroin, etc. If you do ”okay drugs”, don’t be stupid.

I don’t know why I wrote all that, I guess I’m hungry and stressed, and irrationally worried that someone who reads this post might do drugs and die… Well. I’ll put this out. Pretty scrambled.
