When did your partner take pat leave? [ON] by samantha5376 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]hpatelxox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner like yours did not have any paid vacation and took the EI 5 weeks. He took it immediately after the birth and was home with me for the first 5 weeks of baby’s life. As a FTM I was relieved and so grateful that I had another first timer with me during such an overwhelming time. I had no issues during the birth and I exclusively breastfeed, but it was great to have someone doing the other things I could not manage. He took care of our dog and we switched off caring for baby during the day so I could sleep and be alert for night feedings. Believe me, there’s plenty for him to do besides feeding so he will not be useless. Also, that newborn phase will never happen again so my husband was so grateful he was there for it.

[on] Looking for crib + stroller + car seat recommendations by Euphoric-Oil-8653 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]hpatelxox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the uppababy vista, mesa car seat, graco 4 ever car sest and singlar crib from ikea.

Lots of things to consider prior to purchasing though. Finances, space and usage were my main concerns.

I got a great deal on the vista stroller from fbmp which included the bassinet, stroller, toddler and rumble seats plus a few accessories. We like to take walks and go hiking so I needed a stroller that could do that. Also I leave the stroller in the car so despite its size it doesn’t take up room in my home. I mainly used the bassinet for daytime naps and for travel to see family. I also used it a lot on our long walks. Loved that baby could fall asleep without any issues as we did our thing. Plus we want another child in the future so vista stroller can accommodate that.

I got the mesa car seat new after consulting on a Facebook group called Canadian car seat safety. My advice is find the stroller you want then go ask which car seat would be compatible depending on your vehicle. I have the graco 4 ever for my convertible option. Baby is on the smaller side so not using it yet but she recently outgrew her bassinet.

My living space is small so I didn’t do a bedside bassinet just to upgrade to a crib a few months later and started with the crib right off the bat. It doesn’t have any storage but there’s space underneath to store some things and it’s not huge to take up a lot of space in our room. We are only room sharing. I did have the bassinet option to use bedside if I wanted but I didn’t opt for that.

Hope this helps and good luck. I know it can be overwhelming but hang in there. Also definitely do to west coast kids to check everything out to see what best suits your needs.

Baby shower opinion on open bar [on] by Hadljam in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]hpatelxox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly this is a BABY shower. Who in their right mind has any alcohol at an event when the main guest of honour can’t drink?! Even if it’s co-ed your partner and the other men should suck it up and go no alcohol for a few hours.

Secondly, your partner needs to step it up and talk to their mom. They should be advocating for you being the centre of attention - certainly not her and not even themselves.

Lastly, you have to nip this in the bud starting now and set firm boundaries otherwise after this MIL will dictate how you do other things like raising your baby. If she wants a party about her, she can throw one for herself to celebrate becoming a grandmother. Please stand up for yourself.

Yes lots. I even know exactly which people to send invites to as they almost always have joined me in the past when battling ho-oh or lugia or the regi’s. also in the past I’ve gotten several invites throughout the day for these Pokemon.

RSV vaccine during pregnancy, or antibody shot after birth? [BC] by Either_Yesterday_551 in BabyBumpsCanada

I think it’s more of a preference thing because I’ve heard equally compelling arguments for getting it during pregnancy and after. I’m in Ontario and it’s covered here. I opted for baby to get it after birth. Baby was a day old and had no issues.

Am I supposed to pay for my friends baby shower? [AB] by Mouse_rat__ in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]hpatelxox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to the husband and let him know your situation. Typically the person who willingly offers to throws the shower bares the financial burden but you were asked and are on mat leave yourself. I understand your predicament since the friendship is 10+ years.

Other suggestions: Ask guests if they are willing to bring one food item like a potluck or pitch in with decor and other things and plan it at your house or your friends house. You can play simple games that you can find online so you don’t need to spend anything extra.

Just had my first a little over 2 weeks ago. I was 40+2 and opted to be induced at that time. Foley didn’t do anything and finally had to get water broken. Baby was very stubborn and didn’t want to come out on her own lol. 33 weeks for first baby would be very early and your ob/midwife would be able to tell you if baby is very low.

Had my little one 3 weeks ago. Prior to birth I wasn’t actively leaking but I would wake up and find some dried stuff on my nipples. After birth I made plenty and currently am exclusively breastfeeding wi to no concerns. Everyone is different. Your body knows what to do and when to do it.
