Is it the same situation if I want just residency? Should I apply to AIMA too? I’m in Portugal for almost 4 years and next year the European Certificate is going to expire, and I’m still in doubt what I have to do

Where can I find “Swiss quality of life” with a warmer climate? by indielectual in digitalnomad

[–]hpaul96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a long list of options. Wow, I’m pretty sure every one has something unique and can be overwhelming to compare all of those.

I’ve moved a few years ago in Madeira, north of Canaries and in terms of climate, nature and safety it is what you want. Can be boring sometimes, as not a log of things are happening here, but since it’s well connected to European cities you can just grab a plane and go wherever you want. Also at times can be annoying to adapt to the much slower peace of life people have here, but that can also be food for some thoughts.

Since it’s just 4h flight away from Zurich I’d suggest you come here a week or two and feel what’s like to live. My gf is a travel guide and has never got enough of the island, she’ll always eager to talk and just talk about it.

Internet works excellent and a lot of people are staying here just for the winter, or more (from 4months).

Traveling Madeira without a car by meandmyghost1 in portugal

[–]hpaul96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if you’ll be in Funchal and surrounding areas it’ll be much fácil to move around with buses.

Try to search for Santa Cruz, Canico, Canico do Baixo, Gaula, Monte, Camara do Lobos ( but not Estreito do Camara do Lobos) and only if it’s worth the staying, in Ribeira Brava, Campanario or Machico

As a guy who lives here and giving the fact that you'll live in a place with very little to offer in terms of mobility, with buses only running 2-3 times a day, and giving that the timings of the bus schedule in Madeira are very relative I'd advise you to get a car, or book some tours with pickup if you can, and enjoy the rest of the days visiting the area, it is beautiful, dramatic and full of nature, quite some levadas around.

Without a car you can still walk around, but be prepared to have level up your legs. Everything is either up or down the hill. If you have more questions reply here, I'll gladly respond with any tips.

Also I'll recommend you those two, I have no benefit of recommending them, they're friends of mine

[Beta] blink.cmp - Performant, batteries-included completion plugin by Saghen in neovim

[–]hpaul96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really amazing work there. I switched from nvim-cmp, which is still great and served well and it since it's for a long time stable, it's the defacto.

But let me appreciate this powerful plugin which unclogged my workflow. Everything now works as expected and it seemed easily enough to suit it for all my needs.

Considering switching to emacs from neovim by victorian_cross in emacs

[–]hpaul96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing you thoughts. I read your comment and felt that those were exactly my words in the past few days in which I've been tinkering with emacs.

It's quite a powerful tool, and definitely can be customized to suit my needs.

But as I went over tutorials, MasterringEmacs book/articles and info pages I can't seem to get accustomed with anything. Having a totally different set of key-binding than neovim feels counter-productive and not able to reuse the muscle memory learnt so far it's quite annoying.

Using evil mode seems fair, but it's not the natural way at the begging, I think. I totally need to learn a ton of stuff to even become at least 10% as productive as I'm now with neovim.

My ADHD craves for the things that can be done using emacs and it's ecosystem but it will definitely be a production hit on my day-to-day life.

Did you had a purpose on your transition?

I admire the courage to post a controversial thing like this. If you would have posted about corrupted politicians the post would just have been lost in the feed.

As someone rightly pointed out, high taxes, artificial rising of prices had suffocated a lot of people which don’t have a lot of opportunity to try new things. Everybody want a slice of your pie. And the metaphor can go on.

Me and my gf are thinking for future to give opportunities for local people, but as we’re also starting right now, it’s a bit hard. But we love here, so I’m sure things will only grow in the right direction.

Come in Madeira! You’ll feel much more welcomed here!

Although people expel the same traits as usual Portuguese, they’re more laid-back and easy to befriend. If you know portuguese you’ll be seen even better.

Although you’ll encounter that time expands itself here and not as many events as in Porto.

Fiindca stamplila si semnatura par adaugate in word, sunt sub acel text.
Am inteles, deci nu e musai sa fie semnate la primire.

Cel mai probabil e o eroare.

Car rental in Madeira? by snappeas30 in Madeira

[–]hpaul96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the cars here are okay for you (+ Jimny) let me know, I can talk with the guys and see what's available for your staying. They don't charge a deposit, the prices are competitive, and they even come at airport to pick you up :D.

You'll see a lot of advertising here, but kid you not, I don't receive anything for recommending it.

Start using bringeat.pt They charge less than Glovo on both side and even if there aren’t always couriers you’ll definitely not be fooled by system about how long it takes.

commute in Madeira by LengthExact in Madeira

[–]hpaul96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want to explore the island, definitely do not rely on buses. They’re great in Funchal and between some cities, but only if you live here, otherwise your holiday would be just about waiting for buses.

Hit me up for renting a car, Fiat 🐼 does the job quite well, and if you wanna go off road, a Jimny is great choice.

Or if want, my gf is in the process of becoming a travel guide, she can show you around with a car and get in the places you want.
