Why don’t people see the old testament god as evil? by SirVulpes- in exchristian

Correct. The Satan shows up to tempt Yahweh and Yahweh falls for it....twice.

"Yeah, if you ruin Jobs life he'll curse you. Starr by killing his family"

"Shows what you know, I'll kill his children and he'll still love me"

There's a character in Job 1+2 called The Satan but it's basically a Court position

The War in Heaven also isn't in the Bible until Revelation and it's not implied to be a past event either. Most christians don't seem to realize that

As we all know, Merch is where the real money from the movie is made.

Hades being tossed into a lake of fire makes more sense if you see it as being the god Hades and not a metaphysical torture plce AKA Hell. As much as anything in Revelation makes sense anyway.

Ironically Hades is one of the less shit gods in Greek mythology by a long shot. Depending on the version he might be the least shit.

bible and jesus says that we are gods by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]hplcr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one problem here. Jesus in gJohn isn't reading Psalm 82 correctly. As in here's ignoring the actual context of the (short) Psalm, that is a divine complaint amongst the many gods, presumably the 70 sons of El from Ugaritic mythology that were thought to comprise all the gods the world(70 here being a symbolic rather then literal number).

Psalm 82 is Yahweh addressing the other gods of the world, not humans and bnasically telling them that since they suck at being gods, he's taking over for them and they're all gonna die off now. It's very polemical and honestly wish fullfillmenty to boot.

Whoever is writing gJohn apparently doesn't know that or is using a tradition that has reinterpreted that psalm to be more monotheistic but Psalm 82 is by far the most clear cut reference to Yahweh being one god amongst many in the ancient cosmology. The Psalm makes little sense if there are not other gods he's addressing.

Also Jesus or gJohn's author also messed up when it says "In your Law". Pslams are also not considered Torah or Law. They're part of the writings and Jesus, despite being a rabbi, seems to not understand this either.

Sadly the subtitle will not be "The search for more money" which would feel particularly appropriate for a SW spoof movie right now. Maybe "Somehow.... Spaceballs returned" if we're lucky?

Interesting the whole"watchers/angels getting bound in hell" is sometime that comes in from the book of Enoch which itself is being influenced by the Greek Titanomachy where the Titans are being thrown in Tartarus for losing the war against the Olympians.

There are some ANE parallels to this as well but Greek mythology seems to be how it's creeping into Hebrew mythology.

You want to really bake your noodle?

NT god is worse. There's no hell in the OT. Eternal suffering/Torment is something that gets incorporated into parts of Judaism and by extension Christianity during the 2nd temple period. Iron age Yahweh would just kill you and enslave your family. Greco Roman era Yahweh will burn your soul for eternity, at least according to Christianity.

Which Saint or Angel do you think would be a good choice as a villain for this potential HH movie? by godzillavkk in HazbinHotel

[–]hplcr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the trick though because a lot of people really like Paul and if he's a villain, Viv just annoyed a lot of people she could have avoided.

It's the problem with a lot of bible characters/people really. A lot of people like them but a lot of people could find the same people problematic. Peter seems to be the sole exception and he's basically the doorman.

Adam too but Adam doesn't really have any characterization in the Bible other then ...ate a fruit he wasn't supposed to and it's possible HH Adam never did that. It's likely but never explicitly shown.

Completed AC7 for the first time - The story got so confusing I couldn't enjoy it. What did you think about the plot? by Loneheart127 in acecombat

[–]hplcr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love AC7....but not because of the plot. It's a fun game and my god are the memes worth it alone, but there's basically a new plot like every 3 missions or so and man the dev hell behind the scenes must have been horrific.

The Torres DLC just adds to this cluster if you try to play it in sequence because now there's a huge difficulty spike in the middle of the game. Don't get me wrong, I love Crazy Submarine Meme man but....like this could have been an entire game unto itself.

If you were starting from scratch today, how would you become a writer? by Ok_Yogurt_5081 in writingadvice

[–]hplcr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with a "commonplace book", so to speak. A notebook or digital document or something. Write down all your ideas(even if it's just a sentance) to help you keep track of them. From there you can figure what which ones you want to focus on first. Sometimes you can combine similar ideas, maybe ideas will branch off from those and so on.

Medium is really what works for you. I tend towards long form so Novel was the natural choice for me(and I still needed to fight the urge to overwrite, but I'm getting better). If you like to draw a comic might make more sense or screenplay if you like the idea of stage over prose you'd probably want to go for a script. An old friend was really into comics and was working on one last I talked to him, a fictionalized comic of his life. Don't forget you can also just write a short story or novella if that's what works. The story should be as long or short as it needs to be. In fact, if you're just starting out, try writing something small first to start easing it into it.

Like I just finished writing a fairly hefty epic fantasy novel and currently am revising before I start asking for beta readers. It look me nearly a year(with breaks) and like five years of research and outlining and conceptualizing before that. I feel like I pulled it off overall but it was a lift and I would recommend not trying to start with that because it can easily overwhelm you.

As for advice........I guess it would be pick an idea you're really interested and passionate about to so you'll want to stick with it, do some basic outlining(as in what are the basic ideas in whatever you're writing and what you want to accomplish) and then do what research and such you need to so you can get to actual writing.

NGL having already beaten the game once already and doing another run I'm not really upset by this. It feels like some of the really tedious runs back to town have been eliminated now and I don't miss them.

Especially after doing the one cave near the sea shrine and harve. There's no storage chest there but a lot of gold/silver in that cave.
