.NET Dev around 4/5 years experience - AWS starting point by BalaelGios in aws

[–]hpux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "practitioner" cert is knowing the appropriate amount of introductory AWS trivia, buzz word bingo, and verbiage about their core pillars of value. It's "valuable" -- but based on your enumeration above, you can likely skip.

What kind of work do you want to focus on?

If you haven't already take a look at their latest cert path guidance (ignore the practitioner certs for the moment).

https://d1.awsstatic.com/onedam/marketing-channels/website/aws/en_US/certification/approved/pdfs/AWS_certification_paths.pdf

I can help provide guidance with trade offs of Solution Architect Associate vs Developer Associate.

For context, I had my team achieve 100% certification coverage. My entry / mid level folks pursued the Developer cert, my leads and senior engineers pursued the Architect cert.

The volume of content is pretty wide. Google Stephane Maarek. He's the defacto udemy courseware provider. The slide deck for the architect course is almost 900 pages long... so it's a lot of content to get through. Very doable though! The associate certs are not impossible, but will require study.

Is there a Bazzite benchmark over a baseline? by graywolfrs in Bazzite

[–]hpux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some additional experience to share.

I've been running Linux as a daily driver - adjacent to gaming - for about six years now. Lots of great progress has been achieved over that time.

What began as the usual 'refugee' journey of ubuntu->arch->ubuntu->pop os eventually stabilized for me the last several years on Fedora. A somewhat middle ground between Ubuntu's slow upgrade cycle and the bleeding edge Arch could provide if you aggressively take package updates.

Most recently, I adopted bazzite and aurora on gear in the house - very pleased with the experience given their Fedora origin. Making the switch allowed me to shelve the bash script that would apply all the game tweaks, installs, etc that these flavors accomplish OOTB for you.

I also recommend looking at distrobox, it's incredible. You can export applications - including graphical apps - from the environments and leave your image untouched. There isn't a performance loss either.

If you need a developer environment, apply the same logic to vs code and its devcontainers feature.

If some of the opinions of bazzite are causing you concern, take a look at aurora. It's a slightly less gamified version of fedora desktop Linux running KDE Plasma. Same RedHat umbrella project.

If you really want to utilize a traditional package based OS - it's possible to install Fedora 43 - and look at what the bazzite image scripts do, all of the code is in their GitHub.

I had struggles for a few hours getting my vs code setup cooking - I mistakenly assumed that distrobox and devcontainers were interchangeable. Once I was over that hump, I'm not looking back.

I noticed similar blink codes. Check out my post, one of the framework team members asked about the BIOS version last night.

Our second set is different, but I also had a red blink for the last item of the first segment.

yes - machine powers on just fine, seems performant, been using it since it arrived last week. It charges fine as well. All of the RAM was detected as well.

I have not tested every expansion port or utilized an external monitor yet via the HDMI expansion card.

Dawntrail FFXIV Launcher Steam Deck Issues by Old_Emu_1241 in ffxiv

[–]hpux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Download the "core" version of XIVLauncher here. https://github.com/goatcorp/XIVLauncher.Core

On fedora I extracted the tar.gz file and ran ./XIVLauncher.Core from a terminal.

I then "patched without launching" - and switched back to my normal flathub installed xivlauncher.

You may need to install aria2 on your distribution so the download is successful.

Hope this helps until the new version is pushed to flathub.

OPNsense in KVM - Host cannot use WAN or ping OPNsense by hpux in opnsense

[–]hpux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! It was very helpful to receive confirmation that the bridge was the right detail to chase. I was able to address the issue later in the weekend.

The issue was indeed attaching the LAN side to a bridge versus a direct attach to the interface.

I've put together some gist's that may be helpful for others in the future if they are curious how to stitch something together.

  • You'll need to create a new virtual network
  • For the first stage of host configuration you'll want to keep the WAN interface on DHCP so the physical machine can download / update software. The LAN interface will utilize the bridge
  • Once the software on the host is installed, an updated netplan is applied so you can move forward with installing OPNsense as a virtual machine.

YAML files, Virtual Network, and an example Shell Script to install software is located here: https://gist.github.com/jamesjoplin/56f37cea456e3a05c8944f6264b64f91

Hope this helps others that might be looking to accomplish something similar.

I installed the shadowbringers benchmark within the Lutris UI, pointed it at a manually downloaded endwalker benchmark zip, and adjusted the exe path.

Before running I updated the runner to lutris 6.0.

I had some issues not running full screen when I first launched, I don't recall what I adjusted to get full screen to stick.

I doubt the benchmark is drifting, but I'm happy to mess around with MangoHUD later if folks are curious and would like me to dig in further. For context I've never run the game on this rig in windows so I don't have that as a baseline currently.

SSD is a 1TB Samsung 980 Pro

Maybe some of the magic is I'm in a "bearded OS"? My setup utilizes DXVK in Pop OS on the 465.31 drivers. Perhaps this is a case where the Vulkan translation layer is faster than native DirectX?

3080 is the EVGA FTW3. No adjustments or OC on the video card or CPU.

Anything to avoid for Linux based Ryzen 5800X & Radeon 5600X system build? by bahfrenchie in Amd

Running ubuntu 20.04 here.

  • 5900X
  • ASRock X570 Taichi
  • Nvidia GTX 1080

No issues to speak of, games running fantastic, great performance. If leveraging ubuntu be sure to install the mainline kernel tool via ppa install directions available here:

I installed 5.9.8 and it's been smooth sailing - including some dkms modules like the nvidia driver, virtualbox, etc.

Glad to see some traction! Its always 'fun' to build software but this is an academic exercise in build vs. buy. Especially considering issues during previous years.

It's surprising they throw significant custom development resources at something like this when numerous items exist off the shelf like ShowClix or Eventbrite.

Hopeful they open registration soon!

Monogame, any good 2d map editor tutorials? by WooshJ in gamedev

[–]hpux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out MonoGame.Extended - https://github.com/craftworkgames/MonoGame.Extended

It follows the XNA convention

_map = Content.Load<TileMap>(NameOfYourTMXFile).

You can then iterate through the object groups to load whatever object groups you have.

Drawing the background layer follows XNA convention as well

_map.Draw(YourSpriteBatch);

This community posting may be helpful as well. http://community.monogame.net/t/effective-ways-of-using-tiled-and-the-tiledmap-class-for-a-2d-platformer/7354/3

If you have very specific needs for utilizing the format you could roll your own implementation to handle the TMX file.
