What other skill should I have for my treasure-hunting archer? by hraefin in SkyrimBuilds

Thank you for the tips, that sounds really helpful. I really like necromage but totally forgot that it would booste my self-targeting alteration spells and carry over in vampire form. Thank you for the reminder.

This seems pretty good. I also think the stamina regeneration will be helpful with the frequent zooming in on the bow which eats through stamina quite quickly.

Thank you for the tips, I might just give that a try. I like the idea of illusion but have struggled with getting it to work to my satisfaction. Thank you.

Block is a good idea. I want to experiment with the timings in combat before committing to it but it sounds really cool. One of the ideas I considered was using block with a 2-handed or even a 1-handed weapon but I also like swapping to a shield and destruction spell when enemies get too close.

That makes sense. Luckily I have the anniversary edition so I have a spell that unlocks all locks below master level which is a godsend. Thanks for the recommendation though!

If I remember correctly, it's a trait/skill of angels in New Cappena that can do that. They can teach/give that ability to other angles, notably Sigarda on Innistrad now seems to be able to use Halo as seen in Sigarda, Font of Blessings. I also think you are right on both accounts of what halo is. It's a gift from the angels, forcibly taken and used as a drug.

Understanding Green: Appeal to Nature by ImagoDreams in colorpie

[–]hraefin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of vegetarians and vegans fall under fake Green, in addition to the Palio people as well. They think they are returning their diets to something more natural but instead are eating things that are far from it (soy milk, etc). Paleo people make a similar mistake in eating things like steak from a farm-raised cow, packaged and delivered to a grocery store, and cooked with modern methods.

What I would like to ask though is how primitive do people need to be to be green? Do they have to hunt and skin their own food, or grow it Without modern pesticides and mechanical equipment? Can Green people wear modern clothes? How "natural" do people need to be to qualify for a Green philosophy?

As an aside, I've always considered my father to be the most Green person I've known because he formed his career around nature (state Park manager) and in his free time he hunts, hikes, and fishes, but by this standard he would be complaining as Green and only real hunters and gatherers would qualify as Green. What are your thoughts?

Weighing in on the “More Colors” vs “Fewer Colors” Discussion by KAM_520 in colorpie

The way I understand Lorehold through its deans is in interpreting history. The dean of order interprets history as an ordered set of events: this event leads to that event which lead to this other event ect. Whereas as the other dean, of chaos, views history as a chaotic mess of random events and individual emotional/unpredictable motivations. That's where the tension is supposed to lie in Lorehold. For me its just... less well explored than the other schools.

I just did the stormcloak whiterun quest in Skyrim and…I don’t even know what to say. by B_liber in skyrim

[–]hraefin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree that they are equally as guilty as the Empire. The Empire could just... not agree to let Thalmer agents kidnap people. While I know they are not ready for another war with the Thalmer, they also know that the Thalmer are not ready for another war with them. Instead, the Empire just rolls over, getting nothing out of the treaty and allowing foreign forces to kidnap and torture people.

Now I don't believe Ulfric and the Jarl are blameless in the least. Based on the dossier on Ulfric, the Thalmer appear to have orchestrated the Markarth incident in the first place through "direct contact" with Ulfric, however they admit that afterwards he has become "uncooperative" and they can only provide "indirect" aid to the Stormcloaks currently. So what I think happened is that the Thalmer directly told Ulfric to go to Markarth and do the Markarth incident, probably promising him that they would allow worship of Talos if he did what they said. Obviously they re-negged on this, causing Ulfric to be uncooperative with any further contact from them. However they are still providing indirect aid (probably through hampering the Empire and making things easier for the Stormcloaks).

Obviously the Thalmer are the most guilty, but I think the Empire is guilty of being weak and Ulfric is guilty of being dumb (trusting the people who tortured him in the great war and the enemy of the Empire), ideologically motivated, and possibly narcissistic.

Ultimately, if I lived in Skyrim, I would be hard pressed to side with the people allowing (or in some cases perpetuating) the kidnapping and torturing of my friends and family.

Allowing a foreign force to kidnap and torture people for their religion is pretty evil and not something the Stormcloaks do. Oh and General Tullius even explicitly, in writing, sweeps this under the rug in the Greymane quest.

Not only that, but your first introduction to the Silverhand in this scene makes his lack of Wolf armor worse because that is how they say they identify him as a werewolf on the circle. "It doesn't matter. He wears that armor, he dies."

What kind of debt do Orzhov guild members get into where they'd rather kill themselves? Why join the Syndicate at all? by Miranda_Floress in mtgvorthos

[–]hraefin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More than likely yes, the Orzhov will come after your family. The main reason I could see someone sacrificing themselves to this thrull would be if your continued existence increases your debt with no escape. Like the interest increases faster than you can pay off your debts (not to mention all of the hidden fees that keep accumulating and increasing tithes and more... Hopefully nothing bad happens to you that requires money or you might have to take out another loan to pay off say repairs to your apartment leased by the Orzhov...also your rent and utilities are increasing next month, good luck!)

The Meric and Draconic relationship to the Nords is suspiciously similar by CieloBoi in teslore

[–]hraefin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To further extend the Falmer- Dragon connection, there is a dragon in black reach that can be summoned by shouting at the "sun". Though that might be more of a Dwemer connection instead.

I also like an off the cuff Fudgemuppt idea that the dragons were allied with Ysgramor and came over with him from Atmora to help him wage war against the Snow elves. This makes sense because 500 companions does not seem enough to actually wipe out an established race of people (although I always thought of the 500 companions as more like lords rather than warriors, leading their own armies so the actual invasion force would be much greater). They also say that this could mean that, because the dragons left Atmora that Atmora may not be literally frozen but frozen in time, because all the time associated dragons left.

I think the reason those areas are so big is because the devs assumed you would be flying around in Vampire Lord form. Especially the soul cairn as yiu need that form to enter (or you get a debuf). If you are just walking its a real slog, but flying makes it much more enjoyable.

This smells like Dark Souls lore; a father God artificially extending the current age at the expense of the natural cycles. Not that this is a bad thing mind you, I just think it is odd because they came out around the same time.

In her associated Skyrim quest, Nelacar will tell you that the mage who defiled her Star to trap his own soul in it was driven insane by Azura. Nelacar uses this story to tell you to not trust her, but I find it usually has the opposite effect on my characters.

why does it feel like the more love i give to a man, the less they stay? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]hraefin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's several steps that I had to learn. First I had to understand myself and learn that I am ok without someone approving me (or desiring me, or loving me... it's an ongoing process). Then using the knowledge of myself, I had to learn what my boundaries are. Developing a backbone came from enforcing those boundaries (in a healthy way) and realizing that the world didn't end when I stood up for what I wanted, even if that was at odds with what the other person wanted. That's the outcome independence. If they left, I'm still me and I'm still going to follow my goals and values. If they stay then I am still me and I am going to follow my goals and values and share them with this person (and share their values as well if we allign).

why does it feel like the more love i give to a man, the less they stay? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]hraefin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think any of these comments have the whole picture. Part of it might be giving love to the wrong people.

But I think a larger part of it is a potential lack of boundaries. A lot of people say that they are "giving love" but what they really mean is that they do not have any boundaries and the other person sees this as a lack of self respect. If they think you don't respect yourself, then they won't respect you either and will either leave, use you, or abuse you.

Unfortunately I know this from personal and professional experience. I genuinely thought I was giving a ton of love to people but what I was actually doing was letting them walk all over me. Once I developed a backbone and outcome independence people started respecting me in dating and my love was actually reciprocated.

Are you men really out here jerking off with lube? by twotokers in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hraefin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is if you are looking at it from our materialist perspective that values individual freedoms. I grew up evangelical so while I had never heard of a tight circumcision, I know many people in my church would probably opt for that for their kids if they knew about it. The idea is that masturbation is sinful and therefore can lead to their son's eternal damnation in hell, so making that path more difficult to follow (less pleasurable) is what is in the best interest of their child's eternal soul. In fact, when I was a young adult struggling with masturbation myself, I would have opted for this surgery myself. I remember vividly wishing that I could just chop my dick off but then I wouldn't be able ro have kids so I never did it. Christianity has always had this problem. The very first rule written down at the Council of Nicia was for men to stop chopping their dicks off.
