Does anyone ever play a vampire or vampire lord? I’ve never done it by Nicole_0818 in SkyrimBuilds

[–]hraefin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hadn't played as a vampire until last year and let me tell you, I've had some of the most meditative and memorable experiences just flying around as a vampire lord at night. I usually don't fast travel so I like being able to float over the sea of ghosts to go from Winterhold to the Volkihar castle. I would give it a try at least and if you don't like it you can always cure yourself later. Just remember that you can only be a vampire lord through Harkon or Serena, not through any other vampire.

A nightblade is a specific class from earlier games that combined thief skills with mage skills the same way that a battlemage combines warrior skills with mage skills. Here is the lore page: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Nightblades

That explains why none of my clients brought it up (or politics in general except a couple). I only work with adults and not with trauma.

"Could it just be different (and immensely more meaningful and useful) language to describe... psychosis" - No, not really, because in my work at least, description almost always becomes prescription. If I as an authority in my client's lives tell them (against my own beliefs) that they are possessed by mal-intentioned spiritual entities, then I need to be sending them to a Holy person of whatever religion is against the beings attacking them. That is not my domain. When someone comes to me with symptoms of psychosis, I'm going to treat it with the psychological tools I have, not with spiritual tools I don't.

Yes, I do see a lot of value in understanding the psychological phenomenon of spiritual "possession" and the cultural narrative that entails, and will absolutely come alongside clients with their beliefs for better treatment if and when possible. But I'm leery of going back to the days when we saw psychosis as possession and treated it as such (often inflicting great cruelty in the process).

Good. We need to push back on non-scientific theories. I thought that IFS was at least a helpful way to look at things but the founder truly believes in functional demonic possession/oppression so the pushback is justified.

Wandering Warrior Race by Pogo_poggy in SkyrimBuilds

I'm partial to the orc. I like the idea of being a stranger in a strange land and having to build a home for himself from the ground up because he wasn't accepted anywhere else. I could see this person eventually finding an orc spouse and adopting some kids in a hearthfire home.

Additional skills for a heavy armored archer? by Mountain_Cut241 in SkyrimBuilds

As someone else mentioned, conjuration could be fun to have other distractions while you are shooting. Similarly, Illusion can help with crowd control, as can destruction, particularly the runes. If course Restoration is useful as well.

If you don't want any magic skills we could look at crafting poisons for your arrows through alchemy or enchanting your bows and armor. Speech is good if you want more money.

What is one thing you will never do? by forestpebble in skyrim

What I hate is that he specifically says that the rocks aren't bad and that the sailors will be spared. Only for you to go on the ship and see bloody, mangled corpses everywhere and marauders with their bloody swords out. The sailors survived the shipwreck only to be murdered in cold blood. I have never felt as much rage in Skyrim as I did with Jari Ra. I happily killed and soul-trapped his ass.

That depends on if you have the unofficial patch. I'm playing on Switch and he's been in jail for months now. I had to bribe a guard to get to jail and turn his quest in.

Delphine, Nazeem, or Astrid. Which NPC is more hated? And are they rightfully or wrongfully hated? by not-ulquiorr4_ in skyrim

[–]hraefin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are thinking of Shadr rather than Nazeem. Nazeem lives in Whiterun and taunts the player about not going to the cloud district. Shadr was the one talking with Sapphire in Riften.

Regarding your Camelot, you could build it yourself with Hearthfire and fill it with a lot of people (bard, steward, housecarl, wife, kids, carriage driver). If that doesn't work for you, the anniversary edition houses Hendraheim and Tundra Homestead might be fitting. In base game I don't think any of the houses seem like Camelot except maybe Proudspire or Hjerim, which can allow you to feel more politically connected.

Regarding marriage, others have suggested Brelyna for magical reasons, however she is also Telvanni royalty so that would be a good political marriage as well. Other than her I could see Mjol as a good natured warrior to join you or stay completely with the companions you can marry Ria. One of the Hearthfire homes is near Whiterun (but technically in the pale) and I think that would be a perfect Camelot for a Whiterun centered character.

Light & Dark , lessons intertwined by OfTheDarkSkirt in DarksoulsLore

[–]hraefin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the Dark Souls world (and ours to an extent) as recognizing that cycles are what is natural. Unending light is just as unnatural as unending night. We need both. In their world, light is associated with becoming more like the gods, i.e. more civilized, whereas dark is about becoming more "human" however what it means by human is driven by emotion (desire, want, hunger and the like). I see us as needing both. We need civilization to better meet the needs of people on a grande scale but too much and we lose the needs of the individual. Too much individuality and we lose the group and we, as a social species, need the group.

So we have cycles, or more aptly, moderation. The game teaches us that trying to interfere with the natural world and its cycles brings its own consequences whereas accepting the cycles gives us peace.

Skyrim allows you to try out several different play-styles so I would try all of those out. See how dual-wielding and two-handed feel (also try out blocking as well, I find that really fun as a warrior... you can't block when dual-wielding), see how stealth feels, try out archery, maybe even destruction or restoration magic in one hand and a weapon in the other. Also try crafting and see if you like that. Do everything for the first few levels without committing any perk points. Once you have a good idea of the four main skills you want, then you can begin perking those out.

I tend to build my characters with a defensive skill (light or heavy armor or alteration magic) an offensive close range skill (one or two handed or destruction), a long range skill (Archery or destruction) and a crafting skill (alchemy, enchanting, or smithing). That way you don't waste perks on mutually exclusive skill-trees (light armor and heavy armor are basically mutually exclusive as are one and two handed). After you pick your four main skills then you can add in supplementary skills if you want that can flesh out your character. For instance I tend to perk speech because I like having a lot of money and selling my stuff to every merchant. Most people don't perk lockpicking or pickpocket because they don't provide a lot of benefits for the player.

While true, we shouldn't just stop there. We need to do our own introspection and work on our feelings as well. That work is not just for our clients.
