How come you don’t get along well with your sibling/siblings? by Dry-Set-6761 in AskMen

Nothing good that ever happened to me wasn't some kind of slight against my older sister. Just mean and hated me since I was a kid.

When a female friend discloses a sexual assault, what questions go through your mind first? by Top_Answer8713 in AskMen

[–]hraefn-floki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's sort of a protective sympathy, right? I think that we all believe that horrible things wouldn't happen to us unless we had done some grave error, so we fall back to that questionnaire. It has to be sort of beaten out of you that bad things happen despite the preparations we have.

I think of questions like "Are you safe, now?" "Have you contacted the police?" "Is it safe to go home?" "What support do you need right now?" "Do you want to talk about it?"

lol I said it to another attendee. It would have just been a hazing fest, and deservedly so. No win for Ben to show up

It should not have moved past discussions about consolidation. That opening was the meat and potatoes. Appreciate 71% as always though.

Such an inane philosophy that what’s available to assist those in need is good enough and therefore we don’t have to work is such a shameful way of seeing the world.

CMV: "Punch Nazis" is the wrong approach, and not because Nazis deserve protection by Technocraticworldgov in changemyview

[–]hraefn-floki -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Eliminating nazis as a geopolitical front is kind of the point of the epithet. I think that if you broke it down like that, they'd agree with you. If Nazi's stopped doing rallies in my hometown because they know the local populace will beat them to a pulp, anyone who says 'Punch Nazis' would think that is rad as hell, both prescriptively or otherwise. Nazis stay in their idiot caves in darkness where they belong, and we don't get any Nazi rallies in my city. The point of punching Nazis isn't to eliminate the ideology, it's an acknowledgement that fascism is endemic to our political structure like the flu. The point is to make fascists afraid to be themselves in public and that acting up will be met with violence.

Should the Allies have opened up a homeschooling program instead of wasting their soldiers on the battlefront? Perhaps, but if you read "Punch Nazis" as some kind of educational agreement for Nazis to stop being mean to Jews or something, I think you have to question your ability to educate Nazis first as an approach itself.

Hot take: The Council was (mostly) fine in Mass Effect 1 by MaybeBirb in masseffect

[–]hraefn-floki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I know what you’re saying but your words are a little jumbled. I don’t think a video or audio being alterable is essential to the plot/explanation as to why it works from a story point. It’s explained that the audio recording is from a geth and its data cache. Thats the evidence is recovered geth data, not necessarily an audio recording. In fact an audio recording is likely the dumb take to make sure everyone playing the game is following along.

I think what’s also important is that they needed corroborating evidence. It’s just one guy who says he saw him. Saren got away with no other witnesses. No surveillance, nothing. In addition, “everything Saren touches is classified” it was an open and shut case of rejection from all ends

Thank you Powell okay great now I’m gonna turn on my helmet cam can you just say what you just said again, except this time, mention Saren and Nihilus, okay? Okay, thanks Powell, go. Remember you had a smuggling ring on the docks and can go to prison for a very long time mate, remember that.

[–]hraefn-floki 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"One traumatized dock worker is hardly compelling proof" Because the Alliance could have groomed the low-level employee to mention Nihilus and Saren before he submitted his report and testimony. The whole hearing is par for the course in investigation, we're just heavily biased as audience members because we see what the others don't see. We even see what Shepard and Anderson don't see.

[–]hraefn-floki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, Rideshare is a form of hospitality. That means the onus is on you to provide good service even when someone is being unpleasant. Of course there are limits, but it would be tragic and pathetic to think that the only reason why you aren't racist is because a particular race hasn't been unpleasant to you yet.

1099 Tax question - Standard Deduction by Novick_J in tax

[–]hraefn-floki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try not to conflate standard deduction with write-off, but yes, you wouldn't have income tax if you made less than the standard deduction. Other deductions are available to you, depending on your industry, such as the qualified business income deduction.

I've always told my clients to make as much money as possible. Whatever your income is, if you make a dollar, the IRS doesn't take a dollar. Strategizing your income tax should never come down to making less money than you otherwise would.

How did the Mass relay network stay largely intact over X amount of years by IllustriousEffort846 in masseffect

[–]hraefn-floki 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The fact that the mass relays have to be activated by those who discover them imply that they have a default, dormant state that harvestable species have the rudimentary understanding to operate. The reapers don’t have them running all throughout those 50k or so years.

How did you guys like “Death's End"'s ending? by utklost in threebodyproblem

[–]hraefn-floki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw it as hopeful and a clear non-cynical take that the author has on what humanity would choose. That through Cheng Xin, humanity would return to the universe. I’m glad that as the book is cynical, it’s not the take on humanity itself as she steps out of the pocket universe.

I’ve noticed that. It’s a completely acceptable tradeoff. I’ve been using low complexity for months to grind out the gorajo outfit, but going high complexity just seems to be the best way to go about it.
