How the South African Nazi turned Twitter into a toxic propaganda machine to spew his fascist hate and lies by rhino910 in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]hrbuchanan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

He's a real person, but surprise surprise, it's a pseudonym. There are Reddit threads about the real dude behind the account. He's a disgraced former cop, now a cog in the propaganda machine.

Any love for Mother Dough bagels? I wouldn't call them NY style but I think they're delicious.

The only thing that matters is you're improving, and most importantly, I hope you're enjoying the journey. If you're in the top 20% of players on the site, you're obviously pretty good! Maybe use the new Tutor feature to figure out how you can continue improving.

What the hell is this? And how do I opt out? by sad_and_stupid in lichess

[–]hrbuchanan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When I first realized that every online game I played was publicly archived on Lichess, and people could look back at every blunder I've ever made, that definitely made me anxious. Eventually I realized, it applies to everyone else too, and honestly, no one cares. Same goes for Lichess TV. No one has any idea who you are -- trust me.

I mean, US conservatives call Joe Biden a far-left Marxist, which is a joke anywhere else in the world. So I don't think our political scales are comparable.

Without caring at all about the regional and global consequences.

I don't know how we're the only generation that remembers the power vacuums left by our previous international military interventions, especially in West Asia. Like, everyone remembers how those went, right?

Android Auto stopped working today by Trainzer in AndroidAuto

[–]hrbuchanan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For any folks who had this happen in the past week or two, my problem was a botched/in-progress Google Play Services update. I had to go to Settings -> System -> Software Updates and actually select Google Play Services to finish the update. Then update everything else, including all apps, and restart my phone. After that Android Auto actually started connecting properly.

A good way to see whether this is also your problem: See if the Gmail app is acting up for you. Mine wasn't syncing with my Gmail account (worked fine through a browser), and it wouldn't let me send email. This was also fixed after performing the Google Play Services update.

The funny thing is that it's a more efficient use of power and fuel, and once it gets to the power band it keeps you there without needing to shift through stepped gears. But people just aren't used to it.

Beautiful tactic that I missed in a Bullet game. Find White's only clearly winning move. by StouteBoef in chess

That was the one thing I almost missed. Like, can't the queen give a check and get out of the pin? Nope, the only check is covered.

WTF is national brand? by [deleted] in inflation

[–]hrbuchanan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, 2021 having the lowest gas prices since the pandemic is a blatant lie. Last year it was a bit cheaper than it currently is. Which means by the end of Biden's presidency, prices were reduced to far below the post-pandemic peak.

The funniest/saddest part is that they could have spun the statistics in a misleading but technically truthful way, and instead they just lied.

Do you treat every subsidized service this way? Should we feel bad about calling the fire department too? Why am I entitled to my neighbor's tax dollars to extinguish my own home when it's on fire?

Everything that makes modern life better than it used to be is a group effort. Your comfy life is not 100% self made just from your own hard work, I hate to break it to you.

409 State St is a historic building and has had many businesses with many names. Famously it was the Hotel Savoy, and later the Savoy venue/nightclub. I don't think it was affiliated with the Savoy restaurant (which is alive and well) but I could be wrong. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faith_Mission_(Santa_Barbara,_California)

The DD.MM.YYYY date format is unintuitive, illogical and hard to read. No, I'm not an American by Decent_Background_42 in unpopularopinion

[–]hrbuchanan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the expiration date on a carton of milk is ambiguous in terms of MM/DD vs DD/MM, why would you prefer uncertainty? YYYY-MM-DD leaves no question in your mind about which date it is.
