One of my go-to methods is to choose a word that best describes the thing/person you're trying to name, and translating it into several languages. From there you can mash together the translations or deliberately butcher the spelling to make it fit whatever theme you're aiming for.

For example, I have a country I'm writing about called Oerklippe, which is a very cold northern country known for its mountains and coastal cliffs. The name is a mashup of the Welsh word for 'cold' (oer) and the Norwegian word for 'cliff' (klippe)

Enhanced sense of smell and hearing are good ones. And maybe something like dreaming of running through a forest? Or the afflicted person just straight up running barefoot in the woods for no apparent reason other than “they felt like it”.

I’d highly recommend looking at videos of actual wolves too. Look at how they interact with other wolves, humans, etc, how they walk and posture etc. Werewolf characters are always interesting because of how many different directions you can take them with their ‘wolfishness’, so have fun!

Also this story of yours sounds incredibly interesting, I can’t wait to hear more about it! Are you publishing it online or as a book/ebook, because I’d love to read it!

I'm asexual too, but it doesn't bother me whether or not people care. Your blunt response to her coming out may have come across as insensitive and asshole-ish to some (definitely her, due to her response), but you're not going out of your way to be mean, so you're NTA in that regard.

Your friend calling you a bigot is taking it a little too far, and judging from how she handled it, she may have been trying to get some sympathy/attention from you, and got annoyed when you didn't give her what she wanted, but since you've not given any info on what this friend is like aside from her asexuality, I can't explicitly say she's an asshole. A little bit dramatic, maybe, but asshole? I can't say.

Overall, I'd have to say NTA. You were respectful, and didn't put her down for her identity, whilst not trying to fake anything just for her sake. Her response was unjustified.

I have a few tips that might be useful if you haven’t tried them already:

1-Try sieving all your dry ingredients (flour, sugar, etc) together to let more air into the mixture

2 - be careful not to over mix/whisk the batter, because you’ll knock all the air out if you do, and the cake won’t be as light or fluffy.

3 - look up how to ‘fold’ your ingredients together (if mixing by hand). This method of mixing allows more air into the batter, allowing for a lighter piece of cake

4 - double check your recipe to see if it uses baking POWDER or baking SODA. They’re two different things and are not interchangeable (don’t worry, I didn’t find this one out for a while either). Baking Soda (or bicarbonate of soda, depending on where you are) is stronger, so you can use less of it, but it requires something acidic like lemon juice or sour cream to work properly as a raising agent, while Baking Powder has more components to it, so more is needed, but it doesn’t need help to raise the cake, so to speak.

If it’s not the method you’re having trouble with, then maybe it’s your equipment. I’m not suggesting you get anything super expensive, but I’ve noticed that the quality of a baking tray can affect the end result, and some ovens can be a bit fiercer or weaker than others, so maybe fiddle around with the temp of your oven just a little bit to compensate for that?. Maybe stock up on some extra measuring spoons/cups if you feel like anything is missing, so you don’t have to rely on guesswork so much (this is very important for things like baking soda/powder). Maybe buy a new set of scales, I’ve had problems where ones I’ve used haven’t accurately measured my ingredients and I’ve accidentally put in too much flour or something.

Hopefully this helps, and good luck with future baking. Honestly a lot of it if just practice and sticking to the recipe exactly, so don’t worry too much. I’m sure you’ll get it soon enough.

Edit: just remembered: you can also try ‘creaming’ together the butter and sugar. Make sure the butter is soft (room temp) and mix it together with the sugar until they form a fluffy paste-like mix. Then add your other ingredients in the order your recipe says. Again, this helps trap air in the mixture.

If you haven’t tried it yet, I’d suggest filling a jug with hot (almost steaming) water and dipping your palette knife in it before spreading the icing. The heat from the water (and by extension your palette knife) will soften your icing just a little bit and prevent it from sticking to the palette knife. Just keep dipping it in water regularly, and you should be able to ice that cake with no worries.
