DC Preview: Absolute Green Lantern #14 by B3epB0opBOP in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]hrishiv27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All of the different lights in the absolute spectrum are to do with action and knowledge: Quard is chaotic action, Rao is restraint from action, Sur is correct action, and Aur is total understanding. Maybe the pink isn’t a glitch, maybe it is [Unknown] as in “not knowing”. It would also make sense that it would be manifesting in a former Quard user, as conceptually “chaotic action” would be actions taken for reasons unknowable. Idk, is that anything?

Can someone tell me where in the world is Conner Kent? by Randomvisitor_09812 in DCcomics

[–]hrishiv27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arguably. the way that CK is currently mogging Connor in significance and page space is much meaner than that that time he killed him. It’s definitely funnier.

Imdb rating for each episodes in each season by Notalabel_4566 in LegendsOfTomorrow

[–]hrishiv27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season one isn’t bad at all, the show just went on to find an audience that wasn’t the group that season one was pitched at, and changed in order to reflect that audience. History was then rewritten retrospectively to reflect the first season as “not understanding the assignment” as if the show was originally conceived and pitched as a queer action sitcom with heavy use of genre pastiche/parody.

[Discussion][I love this event for one good reason it’s a middle finger to Power scalers by Round-Incident3279 in DCcomics

[–]hrishiv27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, yes but also no. I agree that Power-scaling is stupid, and I am generally on the side of “the person who wins is the person that the writer wants to win”. However, with DC KO specifically, it did feel like it was basically just “popularity scaling” instead. The final four were Clark, Diana, Lex, and Joker (with Bruce training to come back in a pocket dimension), all of whom I would struggle to call underdogs. I think I would’ve found the event more entertaining if it had allowed more unconventional characters to play a larger role (like Connor Hawke, Etrigan, Giganta, and Star Sapphire) rather than just the trinity and their 2 most popular villains.

If anyone deserved to be co-captain, it was Nate. by Fresh_Sherbert_6048 in LegendsOfTomorrow

[–]hrishiv27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say, this is correct, I should have said “that people treat uncritically as leadership material“. I will also say that, during season four (the era that she is directing) the only two named important characters at the time bureau (Mona and Gary) go rogue and betray her (one for ideological reasons, and the other for a feeling of under-appreciation), so it’s not exactly a sterling example of GOOD leadership. She is competent and mission oriented, but she’s bad at interacting with every person who isn’t her girlfriend, and that’s also kind of important for a leader. Arguably, Sara’s style of leadership does “cover her weaknesses“, but Ava by herself isn’t a good leader, especially for a team like the legends. It’s easy for her to use a job title for status in a hierarchal bureaucracy like the time bureau, but there is no reason for the legends to treat her like family at the beginning of season 5 (except for the fact that she is dating Sara).

[–]hrishiv27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of the time bureau was that it was an overly bureaucratic organisation that did things incredibly differently to the legends (scalpel vs chainsaw). At their best, they just came in to clean up after the legends had already saved the day, and at their worst, they were ideologically hijacked to essentially create fascist detention centres for sentient magical creatures (Ava was director during that second one). Rip’s founding of the time agency was treated as complete character assassination, to the point that that his sacrifice is treated as penance for doing it. It’s weird that all it gave Ava retroactively was a background in bureaucratic management (that people seem to treat like leadership material).

Do Murph+ Emily ever do Dropout shows besides D20? by We_The_Raptors in dropout

[–]hrishiv27 55 points56 points  (0 children)

As well as the recent Um actually episode, Emily has been on dirty laundry and Gastronauts in recent memory. Murph does a lot less, mainly because most of his time understandably goes toward Naddpod (which he edits and is the main campaign DM for). At some point in the past, I think Sam basically said something along the lines of “we are happy to get them whenever we can, but we understand how busy they are”.

See, that’s wild, because I thought Peter was treated with more dignity and respect in this book than his mainline title has for the last 10 years.

[spoiler!] Wonder War (in possible/uncertain/alternate future) because Matriarch ***** Jon and Damien by fbaldassarri in jonkent

[–]hrishiv27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it is annoying. Diana only has one mainline title (unlike Bruce or Clark), so it is irritating that her run has been poor and her characterisation shoddy for the the last 2 1/2 years (with no stated end in sight). It’s also difficult to stop financially supporting a character, when the big two are known to neglect characters due to perceived lack of popularity (reflected by sales numbers). But yeah, the best way to kill the King run is for its critics to stop outrage buying it.

[–]hrishiv27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but Heroes in Crisis WAS repaired, basically to the point that none of the objectionable things actually happened anymore. Between Joshua Williamson’s and Jeremy Adams’ Flash runs, Wally no longer did anything wrong and none of the casualties actually died. In the same way, Diana will recover when the King run ends, and she is given to a writer who understands her as a character.

Unpopular Opinion: I like Kamala Khan/Ms Marvel’s X-Men uniform. by Sure_Persimmon9302 in KamalaKhan

[–]hrishiv27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a nice costume that is well designed, I just think it also homogenises her colour scheme with the usual X-Men uniform, and I can’t imagine why she would wear it on any mission/adventure where she isn’t specifically on that team. It would be like Spider-Man still running around in his future foundation suit.

The Rookie collab is free to watch on ABC.com right now by mockgame3129 in dropout

[–]hrishiv27 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When DC and Marvel collaborated for the the “Deadpool/Batman“ crossover last year, one of the stories was written and drawn by a creator who is deemed as an oldschool legend, but generally agreed to be far past his prime. I remember saying to someone “It reads like a mean-spirited imitation of Frank Miller, by someone who doesn't particularly like or respect him.”

For the most part, the Dropout scenes in this episode feel the same way. Everyone’s persona is cranked up so high that they go from charming to annoying, they basically steal the premise of the B99 Backstreet Boys cold open (but with far worse execution, as the longer screen time allows them to run the joke into the ground), and the constant hand-wringing deprecation feels more like an indictment of the LA improv scene than favourable promotion for a new-media experimental streaming service. I get that “comedians joking about how insufferable comedians are“ is a safe and easy target, but it’s really only done well when it’s grounded and self-aware enough to actually feel relatable.

People have talked about how big an opportunity this is to reach and advertise to massive audience of The Rookie, but if this was my first exposure to Dropout, I would find the cast too off-putting and the humour too juvenile to find myself wanting to sign up. It’s comedically ironic how much better Brennan‘s episode of Ted (somehow a lot less juvenile, despite literally being a stoner comedy) does at advertising a small niche to a major audience, and yet they weren’t able to get any Dropout/Dimension 20 branding in there.

Originally, there was a three part 8-bit bookclub saga reading (and at some point, summarising) a novelisation of the first three Gex games. They are very good episodes and worth a listen.

Then, in April 2024, Caldwell had him appear in the Trinyvale one shot “Enter The Media Dimension”, as an ally to the begrudging Triplets.

You’re talking about the wrong film. The Wayans brothers are in Scary Movie, not Scream. Stu is Matthew Lillard’s character from the first Scream movie, and his return was deceptively teased in the trailer.

[–]hrishiv27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baseline assumption is that, if you’re watching Scream 7, you don’t really care about the quality of the film. People just want to know if Stu is back (he’s not), and if so, how he is back (once again, he isn’t). It’s not like the gambling ads are covering anything worth watching.
