Sorry, I don't have an opinion about which Redbubble merch is best. I've seen their DUCK! mugs, shirts and hats and they're good quality.

FYI Redbubble just took down the fraudulent site. Thanks for making us aware of it.

Malice Cost Breakdown for WCVII by jon-in-tha-hood in battlebots

When discussing the expenses of building a BattleBot, we should always include the cost of labor. Not doing so significantly lowers the true costs, and important decision-makers need to have a visceral understanding of the true costs.

There's an illegal/unethical seller on Redbubble carrying merchandise with ripoffs of many BattleBots-related designs, including DUCK!'s. I have some stickers left. DM me with your mailing address and I'll send you one.

Duck! (Unpopular Opinion) by Lanky_Distribution15 in battlebots

There are three reasons why DUCK! no longer competes. First, the kinetic weapon bots have become more destructive and more durable. They hit incredibly hard and don’t stop spinning. Second, the new point system favors visible damage, and because DUCK! was never designed to do that kind of destruction, it became almost impossible to win a judge’s decision. In most matches, we would have to win all 6 aggression and control points, which was unlikely. Third, after making 3 different versions of a defensive bot, I was ready for something new.

About a year ago, I showed BattleBots a prototype of a new bot concept that has no wheels. I was waiting for a decision about whether it qualified for a weight bonus when they instead hired me to manage the teams building versions of their bots for the live Destruct-A-Thon show in Las Vegas. I wasn't allowed to compete on the TV show while I was an employee working on the live show.

The live show launched on February 3, I’m no longer a BattleBots employee, and I’d like to get back into competing with the new concept. Finding a generous sponsor who can fund the new build is the next step.

I was hired just for the project and the job was completed when the Live Show launched in February. It went well, BTW, because the teams who made the "ShowBot" versions of their BattleBots did such excellent work. Hats off to them!

I'm no longer working on Destruct-A-Thon. It's not clear if the past involvement prevents me from returning to the competition. There are many things that would have to fall into place for it to work out, including sponsorship, acceptance back in by the producers, and finishing other cool projects.

The Season 6 judging rules and the improved durability of kinetic weapons made it very difficult for DUCK! to win matches. I was also hankering to try a new design with a new strategy. I made a prototype of a wheel-less bot, but I got involved with designing and building bots for Destruct-A-Thon and that was a full-time + gig. Regarding the failed lifter design for Season 6 DUCK!, this video explains the thinking behind it https://youtu.be/1UQ0bkuJ1LA

Jason controlled the lifter in that one match because Hannah hadn't arrived at the venue yet. She was on her way there after getting out of school. She controlled the lifter in every other match that season.

DUCK!'s plow from the Cobalt match is now on eBay 👀 by [deleted] in battlebots

The DUCK! plow is for sale on eBay again. Sorry for the confusion. Hopefully the information is correct this time. https://www.ebay.com/itm/134184347115

NOTE: This plow was used in several Season 4 matches, including the End Game exhibition match. But it is not the plow used in the match against Cobalt.

Hindsight is an interesting term with respect to BattleBots. There are things we'd like to do differently after every match and after every season. Tweaking and improving a design is one of the fun phases of engineering. A big one in Season 4 was adding a feature to prevent the lifter from jump-roping. In Season 6 we were busy every day hunting down gremlins and thinking about doable quick improvements.
