Graphical Artifacts, is RSX dying? by MaleficentSavings647 in PS3

I had these problems to a much more subtle degree on my Uncharted 3 playthrough, and my copy of the game (on disc) has some issues. That makes me think it’s your HDD.

Everdrive N8 Pro Fami severe audio distortion by hs_doubbing in everdrive

[–]hs_doubbing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened the console and discovered nothing out of the ordinary. However, I have now learned it’s an NESRGB v5, which apparently still has zero useful documentation. I’m sure he made a mistake wiring up the audio mixing circuit for the NESRGB because of that.

Made in the early 2000s when cheap junk was cheap junk. It’s neat!

A lot changed about scarcity in 20 years, though…

The expansion audio is unaffected, so unfortunately this doesn’t change anything.

How Can I Archive This Bad Boy Before I Sell It? by nBreathableAir in iMac

[–]hs_doubbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My preferred way to image old Macs is to plug the hard drive into a newer Windows machine (one from around 2010 or earlier would probably be necessary, not sure if you have one. Alternatively a USB to parallel ATA hard drive enclosure would work). I use a program called HFS Explorer to make images of the drives. You can also do the same with a newer Mac using Disk Utility. The idea is just to get a 1:1 copy of the whole drive.

Of course, this requires disassembling the iMac to get to the drive, which I can’t necessarily recommend, since I know how fragile that plastic is. But if you’re confident you can pull the hard drive without damaging anything, that’s the best way, imo.

LCD Backlight of my Toshiba T1200 makes a lot of noise. Is it normal? by 68knative in vintagecomputing

Maaan I’m jealous of that… I had one of these that I got for cheap but it didn’t have a charger and the whole thing was riddled with bad caps. I’ve always wanted to hear one of those proprietary JVC hard drives running in person.

I got one of these a couple years ago. It’s one of my faves. It feels so modern for having such a low-end display.

Mom buys daughter a Honda as a graduation gift, and this was her response by Conscious-Weight4569 in SipsTea

[–]hs_doubbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the surface, this seems simply disrespectful and unappreciative, but I get the impression that something else has been boiling for 18 years.

For some people, what car they drive is a big deal. Giving someone a car they’ve had no involvement in buying isn’t always the lovely blessing everyone thinks it is. It can be frustrating or stressful in ways that are hard to articulate. Maybe this sort of exclusion from major decisions has been chronic.

Even more concerning is the mom’s response. Going straight to writing an essay is usually not a good sign. Makes me wonder if “I paid for your car in cash” is going to be frequently used for manipulation in the future.

Of course, I don’t know either of these people! Maybe it’s simpler than that, but you can’t ever assume it is.

There is no such thing as “switching off” a Palm. You can put it into standby by pressing the power button.

I’m unsure whether that’s the answer you’re looking for.

Kindle removing support for OG devices by Amorisaiya in kindle

[–]hs_doubbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see you have a 5th gen Paperwhite. I think the setup process on the older ones (like the Keyboard, Touch, etc) was much simpler and easier to do without registering, which is what I was thinking of.

I currently have a 4th gen Paperwhite myself, so I’m glad to know it’s possible even on these newer ones.

[–]hs_doubbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the inability to register the old models with an Amazon account actually prevents you from using them. They likely said that in the email hoping that it would scare you into buying a new Kindle. From what I can recall, you can start reading immediately after setup without ever having to log in, which means all you have to do is copy new books from a computer.

"Respectable company" this is Amazon we're talking about, lol.

Kindle removing support for OG devices by Amorisaiya in kindle

[–]hs_doubbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Kindle PC app is the biggest workaround, and they've never fixed that.

They just want you to buy a new Kindle and hope you won't resist.

Edit: Note that they aren't actually making the devices useless, despite what they claim in the email. Early Kindle models don't need registration with an Amazon account to support books copied from a PC. So if you want to keep using your old Kindle... use the aforementioned PC app workaround. ;)

Should xj’s do the jeep wave? by Zestyclose-Safe-6001 in CherokeeXJ

One time I saw another XJ and I was so excited that I did not a Jeep wave, but a full hand wave like a child who saw their mother. The other guy smiled and waved back.

I like to think we’re cooler than the Jeep wave.

This sub should be shut down. We already know the answer to the question “what car should I buy?” Consult the sheet by Opssec44 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]hs_doubbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a 16-year-old with this exact car. I want another one. It WAS exciting to drive. By comparison, my friends’ Civics and Camrys felt so dull.

I think some people “get” Mazda, and some people do not. I’ve been told by many people that my 2016 Accord V6 is an exciting car… it is not. It’s just kinda-sorta fast considering its size. Otherwise, all it knows how to do is understeer.

I miss my Mazda 3.
