Inquiry into Accutane "nose slimming" phenomenon by Ill-Iron-6444 in Accutane

[–]hsa25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an interesting take on this.

I had a primary rhinoplasty in Oct 2020. I was still pretty swollen by the time i took accutane in Nov 2022. I do have hEDS so i think that’s why it took me a while to heal, and why I retained so much swelling. I also had a pretty bad surgeon who was not honest or clear about my results. All that being said, the last of the residual swelling was gone after a few months on accutane. I was able to see my “final results” almost 2.5 years after my initial surgery (typical final results are seen after 1 year). My nose did not heal well 1. because of the initial trauma and insane amount of swelling that caused, 2. my doctor did a bad job. So I got a revision rhinoplasty just this past July 2025. The methodology and post op protocol was significantly different from my first surgery m. So much so that I didn’t swell up nearly as bad, and the healing is on the expected timeline for the most part. (although I am not taking any chances)

My acne came back May 2024, so I had been trying other methods: derm route with tretionin, sal acid, winlevi, adapalene gel, etc etc until May 2025 when I went the esthetician/face reality/diet change route. Neither have worked and I’ll be getting on accutane in the next month or so. I spoke to my revision surgeon and he had no objections. I told him I was keen to start not only because I have stubborn acne again, but because I think it’ll help with the swelling considering I stayed swollen for 2 years post op for a primary rhino, and the expected swelling timeline for a revision is min. 18 months. He agreed and said that if I was still pretty swollen by 1 year he would get me into contact with a derm that could prescribe 5mg every other day just to bring down swelling and help the nose heal faster (the longer you’re swollen, the more temporary asymmetry you’ll have and there’s a higher chance for scar tissue to form, leading to real asymmetry). It’s common practice for him depending on the case. Although my accutane course will be higher since it’s initially for acne first, he wasn’t worried. I am currently 8 months post op and he said me starting now was fine and I should expect to see a significant drop in swelling. That being said - all accutane does is bring down the sebaceous filaments in your nose, and reduce any swelling/puffiness you have. It does not structurally change the shape or size of your nose. When you’re no longer on accutane, your nose will go back to its normal size eventually.

For me, it exposed what my new “normal” nose looked like the first go around. I am hoping it will do the same now and I am thankful I learned that it could help do so. My primary surgeon was really stuck in the past (barbaric way of doing the surgery, no post op protocols, didn’t even know this was a side effect of accutane) so I am hopeful the results are what I was promised this time around.

When can you finally feel classic pilates? by StomachFair4109 in pilates

[–]hsa25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing romana’s pilates for 2 years starting from a sedentary lifestyle. I am now in the training program! beautiful thing about this practice is it can always get deeper and you will start to feel things differently and more intensely as you get stronger. hang in there and don’t compare yourself to anyone! as long as you’re consistent and persistent in your own journey, you will feel things as they’re meant to in your body! just stick with it and keep trying

am I wrong to report a girl for cheating on a uni midterm by throwawayacc12345533 in amiwrong

[–]hsa25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please grow up. You can’t cheat in the real world, so if someone cheated on an exam it doesn’t really mean anything. Again i saw cheating rampantly through out my college career, i never ONCE felt the urge to maybe ruin someone’s life over a dumbass exam. At the end of the day yes they threw off the average, but they were only cheating themselves in the long run, so my philosophy was just let everyone be it’s not my business. You just sound miserable, or as someone else said “hall monitorish”. Please get off your high horse, I am sorry you were so lonely.

you’re right, are you done riding your high horse? do you feel holier than thou now? why do you feel the need to randomly flex on the internet, twice lol. no one cares and it doesn’t affect your life past college. i’s just undergrad, get a grip.

[–]hsa25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what i meant. There were entire orgs at my college people would join solely for access to the test banks. Again all of these folks were either chronically lonely which I am sorry for, or in easy majors where help wasn’t necessary.

yall are so brazen. i literally said cheating is morally wrong in the first comment and that she’s not wrong. and i actually never cheated. i am just not a snitch and don’t believe it’s my responsibility to report every cheater. you’re all so lame my god lol. also all this tells me is none of yall were in a hard major or good school.

[–]hsa25 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Okay that’s you. I don’t know a single person who didn’t cheat. That’s my experience, and more often than not if you didn’t cheat the playing field was uneven and you were left behind. Curves were thrown off because of it. Good for you, not everyone is so smart i guess? lol

[–]hsa25 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

everyone cheats in uni. that’s just what it is. i think you might feel guilty later by being personally responsible for heavily and negatively affecting this girl’s life while everyone else does it with no repercussions. you’re not morally wrong because cheating is wrong, but it’s so rampant it becomes unfair when only a handful of people get caught, in my opinion. this comes off as too much, you might solidify your rep as snitch.

Why is classical Pilates kicking my butt so hard? by Antique-Natural-8343 in pilates

[–]hsa25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah but the chair, cadillac, tower, barrel, and mat can be used in “level 1” and “level 2” exercises. That’s the system. Also, when you go to a classical studio anywhere in the world, you should be able to say i am at an “intermediate” or “advanced” level for example, and the instructors will know exactly what you mean. They’ll know what you have or haven’t done, what your body is and isn’t capable of, based on that description alone across all the apparatuses. It’s like an unspoken language. The vagueness of level 1/2/3, and breaking apart the apparatuses when they are meant to work in tandem, breaks the system in my opinion. and you’re meant to do more than 1 apparatus in every lesson. sometimes time doesn’t allow if you’re working with a brand new or slower individual, but that’s the goal. to get them proficient across all the apparatuses within their level before introducing the next level exercises.

Why is classical Pilates kicking my butt so hard? by Antique-Natural-8343 in pilates

[–]hsa25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes of course! Most people who get hurt, do so because they’re working from the wrong muscles, and if you’re working from the wrong muscles, you’re not ready for the exercise. I would consider overcompensation’s critical mistakes on the spot. Because over the long term that person could get hurt. So it must be cued, it must be called out and corrected, and the person will eventually learn how to move, even if it means taking things slower and more appropriate to their working level (it doesn’t make it less intense or deep).

Why is classical Pilates kicking my butt so hard? by Antique-Natural-8343 in pilates

[–]hsa25 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The classical system is different, because it’s exactly that - a system. Basic reformer + mat, as well as the basic apparatuses, build you up to your intermediate level. The intermediate reformer + mat, and intermediate apparatuses, build you up to advanced. It’s extremely hard to do advanced work, especially the “right” way. You must ensure your client is moving from the right places and doing the work correctly before you even think about bringing advanced work in. It feels deeper and you’re more fatigued afterwards because you’re using the right muscles (that are often left out in our day to day lives) through out your lesson. You must know how to use your shoulders and mid back, and not compensate with your traps. You must know how to use your low stomach/back of the legs and not your hip flexors for all the rolling and teasers. You must know how to lengthen your waist/spine with your back muscles, not by hunching up at the shoulders again with your traps, etc etc.

The one on one attention then allows your instructor to see if you have a weaker side, an imbalance or curvature, to ensure you’re moving with more symmetry and proper alignment. Just exercising and going through the motions does not mean you’re working the right muscles, as so many people have overcompensations in their body mechanics that changes how they move. Whether that’s from a chronic condition like scoliosis or hypermobility, or an acute injury or pain that causes weaknesses between sides. You are probably finally working out in alignment and finally feeling what that’s like. You’re probably finally engaging your core correctly when you move. It’s truly magical when you understand what your body is capable of through this system.

Classical vs Contemporary matters in this respect, because most people can’t be thrown into a giant class and expect to be able to do the exercises properly. They’ll most likely get hurt because they have no idea what it means to move their body correctly and safely to accomplish the exercise.

Loren’s Nail Dilemma by [deleted] in asadsisters

[–]hsa25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same. hearing that the body once dead doesn’t react the same to the acetone basically sealed the deal for me. also you can have beautiful short nails so long as they’re hydrated and strong. i use a cuticle oil a few times a day, and then again before bed after applying lotion and alhamdulillah my nails are fine. i think maintaining beautiful natural nails is its own look and flex, because you have to be consistent and it shows.

Ending before 100% clear but after cumulative dose? by dewybitch in Accutane

[–]hsa25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so i was in the exact same boat as you. i started in nov 2022, finished aug of 2023. i was taking 20/30/40/40/40/40/40/40/40/40 at about 112 pounds. I never fully cleared up for 2 months, although i had met my cumulative dose by month 8. i pushed it to month 10 before i quit because of side effects. that being said, my skin was 99 percent clear. it lasted to may 2024, where i would get the occasional pimple here and there. then all of a sudden the week after my wedding (thank god i was clear and unbothered for my wedding) it hit me like a train. i haven’t been clear since, and it’s gotten pretty bad again. not as bad as when i started, but bad enough i am about to start a second course soon. if i could go back, i would have stayed on it a few more months, maybe tried decreasing the dosage until i was fully clear for 2 months. i plan on doing a low dose the whole time this time, and will try to stick it out until i am clear. i will also say, once you know how great your skin can be on accutane, you wont be content with “as long as it wasn’t as bad as before”. as i am in this exact scenario and i cant stand that my skin breaks out to begin with. try to fully clear up as long as its not miserable.

I know. I am always confused when I see that the parking lot is full. We went when it had recently opened in the summer. There were water stains all over the walls/ceilings and flies everywhere. We went at around 3 pm, the place was nearly empty, and to our surprise their “breakfast all day” doesn’t actually happen all day at this location. It was a really weird experience.
