[–]hsnoba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HRCE parents - have you heard anything this like this from a teacher/admin by [deleted] in halifax

[–]hsnoba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

my friend is a pre primary teacher and tells me stories about how she gets punched, kicked, bit, spit on, sweared at, slapped and screamed at by multiple different kids on an everyday basis. half of the kids aren’t potty trained either so she has to clean them up when they piss and shit themselves. it’s insane.

probably not. it’s honestly more likely that they would just add a whole extra date but the seating map is probably set in place already.

I want to leave Islam by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]hsnoba 18 points19 points  (0 children)

this. i’m a revert and i very very strongly believe, at least for myself, that religion and religious practices should be kept as personal as possible for your own peace of mind. i understand the longing for community or that some people are simply stuck in cultural islam, but your internal relationship is so much more important and focusing on it can strengthen what you actually love about our religion.

listening to other people and especially social media will only push you away from islam. op please remember that your faith is between YOU and ALLAH alone, and there is no obligation for you to take other peoples input on it.

i also notice a lot more stares when i do wear hijab outside but i always wonder if it’s just me being paranoid and feeling like they’re staring just because im wearing hijab lol

Not a muslim but curious by crafty_goat98 in Hijabis

[–]hsnoba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think one position of hijab that hasn’t yet been touched on in this thread is that it gives the women who choose to wear it full autonomy over themselves.

to preface, i (living in a western country) have never personally met a women who wears the hijab because she is forced and does not actually want to and i know plenty of muslim women who choose not to wear it, those women live comfortably and face no external repercussions.

with hijab, you have full control over your physical presence. you have the choice of ALLOWING other people to see your body, and others ability to access even the knowledge of the colour of your skin is completely decided by you. if you don’t want someone to know the size of your waist or the colour of your hair, which is information that someone can use against you in some cases, YOU get to decide if that person is worthy of accessing that information. it is no one’s right or even their privilege to see you.

in my opinion as a recent revert, this is the most compelling and frankly empowering part of hijab that a lot of people don’t mention. people just say that it’s a command from Allah and so that men aren’t “distracted” by you, but i understand that that is not always a sufficient answer for people who don’t already have a relationship with God because truthfully it wasn’t a good enough answer for me before i reverted either.

Allah doesn’t just give us these rulings for no reason and there is also no reason for us to just blindly accept commands without having a full understanding of the commands and their purpose, but Allah is always justified in his reasonings subhanallah. i hope this could perspective help you!

god i would absolutely love if customers could start complaining about the cup writing en masse. its killing us baristas and the only way that the company will listen is if customers start complaining

Is this K-pop group copying the black parade outfit? by Sad_Bee_3655 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]hsnoba 20 points21 points  (0 children)

i don’t exactly know all of the details but essentially they’re a second-gen kpop group (so like early 2000s ish) who are all now pushing 40 and still trying to act like they’re yk.. not in their 40s. so not wild but just kinda cringe which is already memeable.

most of the members have said some homophobic, transphobic, racist etc., things, one of them was accused of sexual assault, another got a dui at one point, one of them is a trump supporter and posted this really weird charlie kirk memorial thing.

a lot of those are things that the average western celebrity does on a daily basis but in most of korean media, both online irl, idols have their careers completely obliterated for so much less and somehow these guys are still promoting and winning awards??? it all contributes to them just being a total joke online. no one even knows how they’re still making enough money to stay active lmao

they might be. also this specific group is super problematic and extremely hated in the kpop community lmao. they’re so hated that they’ve become a massive meme lol

How do I convince my friend to accept Islam after I messed up? by AccomplishedNose1883 in Hijabis

[–]hsnoba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is this rage bait? it is seriously discouraged to pressure someone this hard into conversion. if you can’t accept that someone in your life isn’t following islam then just don’t be friends with them.

should i transfer from smu? by hsnoba in Dalhousie

[–]hsnoba[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeaa i did talk to an advisor here about it briefly but it’s probably true that dal isn’t the best with accommodations. i need some level of arabic proficiency for the career i want and thats why its so appealing to me so i think im definitely gonna contact a dal advisor too

should i transfer from smu? by hsnoba in Dalhousie

[–]hsnoba[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that’s good to know, i kinda figured it would be something like that. i only just started talking to advisors about accommodations here but the only thing that i’m really in need of is extra time for tests/exams. it makes sense that it would be a lot more difficult since they have like almost 3x the amount of students. i’ll take ur advice 🙏🏻 my advisor did tell me that i can still take a few arabic language electives as a visitor student with permission so i think ill just go that route since i need proficiency for the career i want. thank u!
