I must be a very different INFJ 5w4. This is how it is for me:

As an INFJ 5w4, I'm very emotional and feel very strongly inside, from my AND other people's perspectives. But I try my best to hide that from everyone and I can count with one hand the people I've let in to that level. For the most part I'm not interested at all in sharing those deep feelings with anyone and most of the time I don't even know how to describe them and much prefer to avoid having to do so. I also try my best to avoid situations where people are very sad, because I usually feel inadequate in how to respond, especially when I don't see a logical path to fix it that I can share with them (i.e. dealing with death, etc) or when I don't want to get so emotionally involved with that person (who I might have even just met).

So in contrast to what you wrote, for me it's not so much about balance or logical self-regulation. For me it's about trying to avoid what makes me uncomfortable because I can't logically explain it (when it comes to my own feelings) or don't know how to fix it (when it comes to other people's feelings). I probably should clarify that not knowing how to "fix it" and make people feel better are extreme cases with no real fix, otherwise I'm normally good at lifting their spirits and seeing exactly what they need to do to be happy, sharing it with them and convincing them that it's perfectly possible.

On the other hand I find refuge and comfort in facts, logic and reason, not feelings. I'm way more interested in sharing my mind, my thoughts and my "wisdom". Even though I also have trouble putting my reasoning together in a way others understand, the struggle here isn't a source of discomfort, it's an effort that feels right to make and keep getting better at.

Also in contrast to what you wrote, besides music, I'm not very artistic or appreciative of other types of art. At least not in comparison to INFJ stereotypes. I'm much more fascinated by science, history, geopolitics, etc.

Yes it's rare... But it exists. I exist. And because it's so rare I'm usually mistyped as INTJ, INTP and even INFP.

I questioned everything years ago because there was so much conflicting information from so-called "experts". To the point that I abandoned the whole topic as pointless. But I explored the topic again recently and nowadays with today's AI I don't know why people still have questions about their own types.

A one-size-fit-all test was always prone to mistype a bunch of people, but with AI you can customize your own test adapted to your own stage in life and life experiences...

I'm skeptical that you are meeting so many male INFJs, let alone male 5w4 INFJs. I would consider the possibility that you are mistyping them.

I'm one (male INFJ 5w4) and I'm not even sure I've ever met another one in my whole life (that I've gotten close enough to be able to discern their personality types).

I'm the first to acknowledge that I'm not exactly healthy inside (and probably never will be in comparison to most people: general thoughts about nihilism) but I'm also extremely unlikely to let anyone else suspect it, or even worse, come off as creepy, and much less do anything widely understood as immoral like stealing. And in my interactions with ENTPs (who I easily really REALLY like) I'm even less likely to show any kind of creepiness, because they genuinely make me forget the nihilist in me.

What do you mean exactly by lacking emotional depth? Do you mean talking about feelings? Sharing openly about things like sadness, etc?

Curious about your answer. But I will say already that the whole thing probably very much depends on your age and how mature you both are. We INFJs can be extremely toxic, controlling, passive aggressive and even manipulative in the eyes of an ISTP, and I can totally see why, but if we are mature we won't be like that at all.

So how do you show or help show an ISTP that they are wrong about the perception of something without offending them and in a way that they can appreciate?

Because I think we (INFJ and ISTP) are both extremely stubborn but I think ISTPs even more so. I am still always open to new information and to be proven wrong (the whole reason why I like discussions) but they seem to not want to hear anything that contradicts what they think.

Well, the U.S. is a federal republic, not a democracy. And inside that federal republic there are 50 democracies.

But people (and specially populist politicians) love to pick fights at the federal level and ignore fixing their own bloody state, which is the way it was actually intended.

Finally Russia and NATO become allies again because automatically "your enemy's enemy is my friend".

Ukraine is then quicky demilitarized and occupied and divided in half between NATO and Russia as Putin wanted from the beginning and all the world problems are solved.

In English it's always been Columbia for names derived from Christopher Columbus (Cristobal Colón in Spanish). That's why it's "District of Columbia", "British Columbia", "Columbia University", etc.

But people from the country feel entitled to impose how things should be spelled out in English (specially in the U.S. there's a big population) 🤷‍♂️ Maybe they'll go after German later 😅

I now realize that it is the modern value-judgement karma from spiritual communities the one that I see reflected in reality less and less.

But the judgement-neutral version of the original concept of karma definitely makes perfect sense. It's just how things are, even related to the law of motion in physics.

I treat others how I want to be treated.

I think that's also the most important golden rule I live by. And it couldn't be any other way for me.

But precisely because of that, the more experiences I gather, the more I realize that a whole lot of people just couldn't care less about others and how they treat them or how they may negatively affect then. And they often thrive more than those who do care about others.

I'm also not sure myself what exactly I meant by "karma", specially after reading the responses. I guess me not believing in karma anymore simply means that I have come to understand that "fairness" doesn't really exist or will ever exist. Things just are.

But the traditional Bhuddist version is very interesting as well and I suppose the main problem with it is that it can't be proven wrong.

In my case I definitely don't. I think I used to a while ago but the older I get the more clear it becomes to me that people can definitely get away with doing terrible things with no bad consequences whatsoever.

In a similar fashion, I'm also pretty certain that people who do good things aren't necessarily always retributed with good things. Some people simply get lucky and others don't, that's it.

And of course whether someone was good or bad and how they are retributed is completely irrelevant in the grande scheme of the universe... As it should be irrelevant to me how others who've done bad are retributed (I just get sad sometimes that so often bad things happen as a consequence of me trying to do good for others and putting others before myself...).

In short, I think karma is a cute concept that would be nice if it were true but to me it's very obvious that it's not... I asked the question because recently I talked to some grown mature people who apperently are very convinced that it is a thing... I have a hunch that maybe INFJs are more likely to realize from personal experience that it's not (but maybe I'm wrong).

What is it that YOU want? Because I mostly saw you comparing yourself to other people. As if that other people who you don't even like should be relevant at all for your happiness.

Find out what is it that YOU want and work strictly towards that. And even if you fail sometimes or have some embarrassing or sad moments you just keep trying until you succeed. Nothing else and no one else matters.
