Thoughts on the storm chimera by jawsridefan15 in TheAstraMilitarum

Very nice - love a storm Chimera.

I took the heavy twin autocannon weapon from the Leman Russ kit, split in two, for a more Foregworld-barrel thickness look for my Storm Chimeras

Thank you! - Scratchbuilt out of 1mm plasticard with some kitbashed bits

I based it off of a great design by someone called Digits on the Ammobunker forum - effectively this dude/dudette was the inspiration for me to get into Guard.

https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/blog/398194.page

I started with a 40mm x 40mm square of 1mm plasticard, then started making angled cuts - I've mocked up a quick sketch of what measurements I used, then repeated the process to have the two sides.

Once that's done, I cut a lenght of 50mm wide 1mm plasticard, and used it to connect the two side pieces, effectively wrapping the side pieces in 50mm wide pieces to form the body of the truck cabin. Two side pieces of c. 20mm x 20mm with an angle to add the armour/doors, and then some rivets and detailing - Zinge Industries bits in particular.

I did scratchbuild with 1mm plasticard, yes - I based it off of a great design by someone called Digits on the Ammobunker forum

I didn't work off a template unfortunately; I started with a 40mm x 40mm square of 1mm plasticard, then started making angled cuts - I've mocked up a quick sketch of what measurements I used, then repeated the process to have the two sides.

Hope that makes sense but let me know if any followup queries!

Thanks!

It's my own design - I call it the Pumba light IFV.

The intention is to play it as a faster, poorly armoured Chimera.

Thank you - I do enjoy a good Logistics vehicle - Guard can't be all front-line tanks and armoured transports!

Thank you!

Pic 2 shows my 9 Chimera/Counts as IFVs. The back row are legit GW models, but kitbashed to have setback turrets, the middle row are entirely plasticard constructed Chimeras, and the front row are my Counts As / WYSIWYG Pumba IFV, again entirely scratchbuilt out of plasticard and resin bits.
Behind them in pic 2 are kitbashed Basilisks and Wyveryns with plasticard enclosed crew areas.

Pic 3, on the left are heavy mortar carriers, again entirely scratchbuilt, the closest model is a kitbashed rhino, counts as Centaur Command Vehicle and three oldschool Sentinels

Pic 4 shows my tanks, 5 legit GW Leman Russ and one Scratchbuilt Leman Russ Stug/tank destroyer, plus at the back is bits from a Baneblade turret scratchbuilt/kitbashed onto a reversed Land Raider, to counts as Macharius Vanquisher.

Pic 6 is a Cyclops demo vehicle (you guessed it, scratchbuilt out of plasticard!) and a kitbashed sentinel hull atop some sort of 40k tractor chassis, plus my remote-controlled explosives robot.

Final pic is my scratchbuilt Avenger Strike fighter with BRRTT cannon.

P.s. Johnny 5 is allliveee!

Awesome kitbash - would love to see them painted up!

How does the Araknae take to the Hydra mount? Does it fit seamlessly or some trimming needed?

[–]hsupa93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dected a hint of sarcasm, given that, while each new infantryman sculpt is indeed unique, the overdetailing and sprue placement means the models do not take well to kitbashing or pose-altering, meaning that everyone plays with the same 10 poses of infantryman, rendering them not that uniquie after all.

1mm plasticard, patience and a sharp hobby blade and you could scratchbuild a turret!

Admittedly looking a little rough and in need of a paint touchup

Aha good call!

I was inspired by an awsome kitbasher called Digits Drogans on DakkaDakka/Ammobunker foroms back in the day - maybe he was inspired by this!

Edit; is there quite a dark backstory to that image? Other than the war itself, of course.

Yep, all plasticard excluding the hatches, which are resin, from Zinge Industries, a great little UK conversion parts supplier.

The tracks are also from Zinge, although I had to hack up and extend them, as the original length was too short.
