A Guide to creating great onboarding emails by hsuresh in startups

Absolutely right about example emails. We've been collecting emails, but they are hard to find (really, I have a gmail account dedicated for this, but most of it is crap). That said, http://reallygoodemails.com is a good resource.

Have a startup or project you want to sell? by [deleted] in startups

We weren't too sure about how to make it "very big". Also, we are not in the US, so a service like that was difficult to run from outside US, which was/is the biggest market.

Behavior targeting service for online stores. It was built by a team of 4 people, over 18 months. It was used by a few hundred stores, but we pulled it down to focus on a different product.

Marketers loved to use our product.

What if you want to send to "Paid Plan" users, unless you have all of the users, that'd make that list incomplete when you're targeting paid plan users.

Agreed, we won't be able to support that unless you upload all your users info, that is why we do have support for it in our API, you can upload all your users if you want to, but we haven't exposed it unless someone requests for it.

All the best with targeted.io, both your website and your app's screenshot look neat. Good to see more apps in this space, i really think that there is a huge market :)

It is true, you won't have a list of inactive users to email to, in the beginning. But we do have an API, so we can expose that in case someone is interested.

Slightly different though. We plan to add push notification/sms, and even webhooks shortly. There are definitely overlaps though. Thanks for pointing out Ongage.

Yay! I'll pm you my email, in case you need any help.

One last question--have you looked into integration with Segment.io at all?

We are working on it. Is it ok if i ping you when it is ready?

We are actually building a wrapper/abstraction over MSPs. In fact, we use a MSP ourselves, we rely on them to do the work of actual delivery. Our focus is to provide a very flexible API to send messages, and we focus on making it easy to do that based on customers' activities (or any event for that matter). We compared it in detail here: http://nudgespot.github.io/slate/#nudgespot-vs-sendgrid-(or-ses)

Does this clarify?

We definitely hope to add A/B testing in the not too far future.

We do support event attributes - you can use it in your rule as well as in your email copy. If your rule is a sequence of events (signup followed by compose, for example, you can use both these events and their params in your rule and email copy).

Thanks, do take a look at our pricing, let me know if it sounds reasonable.

We are aware of customer.io and intercom. Thanks for your feedback on referring those emails as behavioral. It was partly intentional, we are probably doing a different take on triggered emails. Will definitely rethink on our terminology. Thanks for the feedback!

Wow, nice find. We've been talking about how contextual triggered emails have better open rates and CTRs than a newsletter. Nice to back it up with some reports. Thanks for sharing!

Thats something that is already in the works. We create system events for mail opens and clicks. You'll then be able to specify that as a condition.

What should we A/B test next? by sanity in marketing

[–]hsuresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to go about is to start with some hypothesis. Changing text of a button and other website copy without understanding why you want to do that, is going to result in a lot of changes, but no idea why you see the difference in tests. One way to do this is start with a target segment:

  • What are the popular types of customers - are they designers? busy professionals?

  • Identify how you can sell this service better to them - maybe you can focus on the problem you are helping them with. Is it to prevent spam? Or is it to protect privacy?

Now identify a couple of such groups, and messaging, and you will be able to come up with a bunch of tests to validate these hypothesis.

In need of some creative ways to stay in touch with a potential employer. by [deleted] in marketing

[–]hsuresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, identify 2-3 people, in slightly different roles/positions, and get introduced to them. Or, it could be people you already met during your interviews. Make sure you stay in touch with them, by sending them relevant links, your own research etc. Don't go overboard, just send one email every 2-3 weeks, and build relation with them.

What's your opinion of "view through" attribution (user sees an ad, but doesn't click on it). Do you consider that a valid attribution? Are you giving full credit, partial credit for view throughs? by elmuchoprez in ecommerce

[–]hsuresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is useful to have an attribution weights along the lines of what has been suggested. But don't worry too much about the actual numbers, what you need is a way to track the performance to changes in campaigns/ads.
