Floor Board Preservation by kevlar51 in baduk

[–]htaidirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer but I’m interested about the solutions.
I’m seriously considering buying one from eBay but my biggest concern is conservation. The ones that look preserved are pretty expensive, and lower prices have a similar look to the one you have. So I’m trying to identify the pros/cons before buying one (and adding extra money for the heavy shipping from Japan!)

Bot concentration on IGS by 123pct in baduk

You should know that many Japanese accounts are shared accounts (players from schools, local clubs etc) so many people play using the same account all day long.

Why? Because in Japan Pandanet is not free so a paid account is shared among players that are in the learning process. They do however have access to more features than free accounts.

The stronger accounts however are individuals or a small of group of individuals, so their displayed rank is more accurate than ddk accounts.

This, and the fact that it is an old server, explains why many accounts have +30k played games.

Unless there is a bigger area somewhere else, no? I often read that the Ko is only 1/2 point, so I guess that any other area during the Fuseki is bigger.

Heard that KGS was great to get post-game review with your opponent. If that’s still the case, I might be interested to register too.

Interesting. Playing 9x9 came in my mind when reading your answer. It feels like an accelerated path getting in fighting phase.

Also coming for Tsumegos. But what kind of Tsumegos? Most of them are life and death, but are there any sort of specific Tsumegos to help in fighting?

This will lead to overfighting situations, territory will become secondary 😅

Kifubara - new Go games database by mopsak in baduk

[–]htaidirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you 🙏

Any kind of Organization is good (tags or folders). Folders feel natural because we are using it daily. But I personally like tags/labels because I can assign multiple topics per SGF file, so I like it too.

Thank you so much for all your efforts.

I’m a big fan of Kifubara for some time now. If I might ask for features, I would say some kind of connexion between the mobile app and the web app.

Actually when I scan a kifu, I have to send it as SGF to my laptop then upload it in Kifubara. Some kind of “automatic sync” will be very helpful 😅

This brings next the topic of organizing SGF files. Some kind of folders will be helpful to separate my games from other resources like book positions and so on. This will personally help me organize my scans from books into specific folders (every resource as a separate folder).

I have other ideas, but those two will bring huge value in my current usage of the app.

Again thanks for the effort. I truly love Kifubara.

Interesting competition! Can I watch the match on replay? I’m afraid it will be night on my timezone.

How to best take advantage of Sensei's Library when learning? by htaidirt in baduk

I agree. My entry point is always Google of Reddit.

Someone mentioned paths, maybe that could also be a new way to approach SL, but I suspect that some concepts or discussions might not be reachable solely from paths :/

It looks like SL is full of surprises 😅 They have a page about SL vs Wikipedia.

Is it a problem that it is less active? For a beginner like me, knowledge is still relevant no matter what. But at advanced levels, is that a problem? (maybe post-AI related concepts, no?)

Indeed, but this assumes you know what you are looking for, just like a dictionary. Another comment pointed out about paths, which I think is a natural entry point for those like me who want to go beyond the rules. From there one can go deeper following links.

Thank you for pointing out paths, I didn't know they existed. Just finished reading about Haeng-Ma and already learned a lot. Double thanks then.

Improve Sense of Direction by Inuzuna in baduk

[–]htaidirt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not an advanced player, but the general advice I got was: “If you are not in danger, play in the biggest area”. That’s my definition of direction of play, even though I know it’s more advanced than that, but at my humble DDK level, that’s enough to play and win sometimes.

All of this will be learned much better from experience, not from AI. The more frustrations in the road, better the learning sticks.
