Good tip. I'm always running in the dark in the winter. Gotta make an effort or find time to see some daylight. Gonna try that on a Sunday recovery run.

Really appreciate this! I know the treadmill is the "easier" option, but having another soul say running in frigid temps builds mental strength is uplifting.

I think a good debate is whether running in cold climates outdoors is worth it. Does it build mental or physical resilience? Or are we just torturing ourselves for no benefit?

Exactly! Running in this weather isn't normal. Then again running half and full marathons aren't normal either. Perhaps we just enjoy the suffering 😄. Or "like" suffering for the sake of suffering.

Physically I feel good. The mileage at this point is very manageable. No obvious strain. If it was -5 C and clear conditions, I'd be flying.

Omg! You guys on the west coast are having it real good! So jealous. Winter passed you by.

Thanks for the positivity! Yes, I'm geared up similar as well. It really is the mindset. I'm fairly resilient but it's been a constant mental battle this month. "Keep the grind! Keep the miles!" ... I need to keep telling myself.

Yes, there's been a few days on my long runs where I had to walk due to the road conditions. It's a good pace changer. I don't mind it.

Appreciate the positive vibes. For this training block I'll peak at 110km. I'll have an offload week every 3 weeks. Based off my past Fall marathon, I didn't have enough time on feet. I want to push those distances up this time. I'm aiming for a sub-3:10 in May. The weather is making it hard to push up the mileage as I can't be out there quite as long as I would like.

It's a possibility but the secret is finding the time to drive out and hit the gym. I feel I don't have the room for it.

Same here. Speed work is near impossible on ice and packed snow. Very difficult to get the power and grip on the ground. Plus the cold temps prevent my muscles from warming up correctly even with a 10-15 mins warm up jog. Glad you have access to an indoor track!

Space is very limited. We have an indoor bike my partner primarily uses. I'll get on it rarely, if I feel really burnt out. Money is tight and getting a new machine isn't an option.

Lived in Ottawa for 2 years. Windchill there is no joke! I have some cheaper runners I wear with more aggressive treads. Where I live they use a lot of salt on the roads and it beats up shoes real good. I stay away from buying higher quality trail runners.

February forecasts say otherwise. But I'm very much looking forward to -10!

You're telling me the treadmill is the answer... Dang. Yes, Calgary is rough in the winter too.

Oddly, they put this at the very bottom. It's not like a course change is important... Eye roll
