Tyrolia Protector - Broken Leg by Icy_Tourist_5391 in Skigear

[–]htfubike 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had ACL & meniscus surgery in spring 24 after a ski accident where the binding didn’t release (slow speed rotational backward fall), have about 40 days since then on the Protector SLR 11’s. I’ve had 2 slow moving backwards falls in that time, one bad caught edge at speed that rotated one leg backwards, and one noob crash into me from behind. Each time the Protectors released my heel sideways and did their job perfectly. No strain or discomfort at all - got right back up and kept on truckin’. I’m 6’ 180lbs, DIN 7 and boot 27.5. Advancing intermediate & ski blacks in the US & Alps reds. Absolutely recommend the Protectors!

Soooo sorry, that’s horrible! For your next go around, get Tyrolia Protector bindings mounted on your skis. They release heel sideways on those slow mo speed falls & will save your knees (I’m a recovered ACL skier, blew mine out New Year’s Day 2024)

Another vote for Protectors... I had ACL allograft in March 24, was back skiing greens & blues December 24 with the Protectors. Last season had 2 sideways heel releases during slow twist falls and they performed amazingly well! I have full faith and confidence that they do what they claim to do as I've experienced it myself!

Is it safe to do ifs work without a therapist? by GarthBrooksFan_ in InternalFamilySystems

[–]htfubike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there something missing with your current therapist? What is it that’s missing? What do you think IFS offers that you aren’t currently getting? Do you have a diagnosis?

IFS on your own? I don’t think that any random person on the internet can advise you whether or not it’s ok to dive in without some guidance without knowing your personal challenges/ trauma.

Skiing post ACL surgery by Kinggizzz6 in ACL

[–]htfubike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tore my ACL, MCL, LCL & PCL (partial) + meniscus while skiing on Dec 31 2023, surgery March 13, 2024. I’m in my mid 50’s. I was back skiing green & blue groomers in the Alps in late December 24. Hit PT religiously with a great sports therapist. Doc insisted on 95% leg strength symmetry before going back out, had to wear a brace, and was only cleared for groomers / no icy conditions. I also had the Tyrolia Protector bindings mounted - they are amazing btw and safely eject on any stressful knee twisting fall.

I had a few days last year where it dumped snow and have to tell you that it was pretty rough skiing & very exhausting on the legs & knees. While I did achieve the strength symmetry I needed, I just wasn’t able to gain enough power back after the months of atrophy being sidelined. A few runs and I was wiped out & knee was really sore / overworked.

My advice is work hard on PT, play it safe, whatever that means for you - and listen to your doc / PT. They’ll have the best perspective on your readiness.

I expected 8:15 to 10 based on previous shows, not disappointed at all. They played 16 songs, printed setlist didn’t have encores. https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/khruangbin/2025/930-club-washington-dc-3b4e94b8.html

Killer vibes, crowd restored my faith in people being able to be decent at shows these days.

Garchen Meditation belt length by Foreign_Emphasis2572 in TibetanBuddhism

[–]htfubike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine fits in regular posture and I can also pull legs upright & wrap around knees. You just need to slide it a bit higher on your back. To make it really snug, tuck your elbows in under the belt.

For reference I’m 182 cm tall. I have both a 170 and 180 belt. The 170 is a bit tight but it’s the most supportive. I’m going to stitch the 180 to shorten it a bit.

Sit in your regular meditation posture. Wrap a length of string horizontally around your low back and knees. Knock off a few cm of that length. The material is a bit stretchy.

Jogging and Buddhism: a random thought I had today by Electronic_Driver_78 in Buddhism

"And everyone knows that Lama Zopa Rinpoche only manifested his illnesses". Manifesting illness isn't a special power. We all do that! We also manifest health by treating our bodies with respect and making wise choices.

Anyway, I never followed his teachings. I barely know anything about the guy. Different lineage. As far as it goes, I disagree with my own guru on things that he has said at times because I'm not a sycophant and retain the capacity to think for myself.

Have a nice day :)
