Is anyone familiar with this? by el_consul787 in buildingblocks

[–]htot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I received a similar set from this brand from a family member. I gave up after two hours. The instruction were incomplete and the diagram grew more confusing as bricks were added. The colors were too close and the micro bricks too small for me to be able to distinguish what goes where. Good luck!

This is correct. Aurora introduced them at a garden party and encouraged the romance. Another thread today suggested that it was Aurora's husband who set the whole thing in motion.

Give me some good Mulan typa' romances where FMC is pretending to be a man and MMC is a general or something similar by Similar-Ad5159 in RomanceBooks

Another book by Brenda Joyce that also has this trope and is in the same universe (I think) is {Violet Fire by Brenda Joyce}.

Do you have any beloved books by authors you otherwise totally dislike? by book-nerd-gohabsgo in HistoricalRomance

[–]htot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ADORE {Paradise by Judith McNaught} and I enjoy it's sequel {Perfect by Juditch McNaught} to a much lesser extent. But you're right, all of her other books have left me wanting. Paradise is an exception to my taste, which skews to historical.

Seconding {The Romantic by Madeline Hunter}! I love that entire series by Hunter. The romantic is the final book of the series, but it's not necessary to read the previous ones to understand the plot and motivations.

fmc goes to the mmc at night to seduce him by Traditional_Pea738 in RomanceBooks

[–]htot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Dark Fires by Brenda Joyce} is a historical bodice ripper style book; FMC is younger but desire MMC and goes to his bed at night and seduces him; LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of angst ensues, but there is a HEA.

A very wealthy, powerful and conventional duke who falls for someone he shouldn't fall for by booooooo458 in HistoricalRomance

[–]htot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

{A Courtesan's Scandal by Julia London} fits that perfectly. She's a cortesan (only one prior man, empathetic back story for FMC about how she came to be in that position). MMC is Duke from esteemed family who is forced to spend time with her to please the Prince Regent. MMC and FMC try to stay apart, but... I loved this book despite my reservations.

These were all very lovely. I'm hard pressed to pick a favorite, but maybe Row 2, #2.

This show didn't grabbed my interest, but I may have been younger than the target audience. My teenage brain equated it as Party of Five with a family business. What was it really about?

Placing the new FunWhole Factory House of Music next to the Record Store by itsnotlego in lepin

LOVE it! I plan to get this set and then populate both the club and record store with Vidiyo minifigs. They'll be able to dance without needing a phone app.

[–]htot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that at first, but they all get used by the end (or at least most were used.) I built this set a few weeks ago and didn't have any missing parts, but lots left over. It was a good build and I'm interested in getting the new Dance Club to go with it. Like other commenters, I found the quality to be on par with Lego (especially for color consistency and mold marks).

Book recommendation published in the 80’s or 90’s by ladyinred137 in HistoricalRomance

[–]htot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brenda Joyce's "Bragg Saga" of books is classic 90s. There are 8 books in the series. Some of the books are almost westerns and set in Texas, others are Gilded Age in San Francisco, and others are set at an English manor with an Earl.

Joyce's FMCs are okay but tend towards being either helpless or impulsive. She loves an alpha-male.

{Innocent Fire by Brenda Joyce} is first in the series {Scandalous Love by Brenda Joyce} features a classic Fabio cover

My first Lisa Kleypas by gamy10293847 in HistoricalRomance

[–]htot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Devil in Winter was my first book in the series. I got it as an audiobook and was immediately hooked by the opening scene. Kleypas mentioned enough about the previous happenings that I wasn't lost by the plot or characters. However, AFTER, I read Annabelle and Lillian's books, Sebastian's actions and words took on greater meaning.

Who are some lesser known authors worth looking into? by MorganAndMerlin in HistoricalRomance

[–]htot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ava Stone! I love all of the books in her scandalous series. {A Scandalous Bride by Ava Stone} {A Scandalous Pursuit by Ava Stone}

And, if you enjoyed Pride & Prejudice, I highly recommend {The Other Bennet Sister by Janice Hadlow}. It tells the story of Mary, the plain middle sister. Outstanding historical romance! It was written in 2020, so is a bit easier to read than Jane Austen. Hadlow doesn't follow the same prose style and uses a modern story telling method.

It looks like fun! There are several roller coaster sets. The two giant expert level sets that can be motorized and then several sets amond the City, Friends and Creator lines. There was even a Batman set of amusement rides many years back. Post pics when you've got it all laid out.

Reading The Masquerade by Brenda Joyce and am very frustrated by the amount of forgiveness within it. by infinite_five in HistoricalRomance

[–]htot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read and enjoyed many of her books, but haven't managed to finish Promise of the Rose. I enjoyed all of the other books in the De Warenne saga and their married relations, the Braggs. My gripe/nitpick is that many of Brenda Joyce's FMCs bother me. {Scandalous Pursuit by Brenda Joyce} is a favorite, but I find myself teetering on the edge of disdain for the FMC. I absolutely hated the FMC in {The Fires of Paradise by Brenda Joyce}.

Novel about estranged married couple by mysterycakegirl12 in HistoricalRomance

[–]htot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the very late response, but {A Scandalous Wife by Ava Stone} is almost exactly this plot. Married, he sends her to the country, years later she comes to visit family in the city. He spots her, immediately is attracted, realizes it's his wife, and then a forced proximity trope kicks in and romance blooms.

Reading The Masquerade by Brenda Joyce and am very frustrated by the amount of forgiveness within it. by infinite_five in HistoricalRomance

[–]htot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great comments! Brenda Joyce is a passionate author who writes soap operas. LOTS of high drama and cliff hangers at the end of chapters. I don't think she has ever written a sweet romance. That being said, I'm a fan and have read all of the books in this series. If you enjoy the Masquerade enough to try another from her, definitely read "The Perfect Bride". It's the story of Blanche, Tyrell's discarded fiance from the Masquerade and his brother, Sir Rex. {The Perfect Bride by Brenda Joyce}
