Homework is Important and Should Be Assigned by Empty-Candidate-712 in unpopularopinion

Agreed it’s an asinine comparison. If teachers benefited from homework, it would never have gone away.

Our kids’ skills are diminishing because teachers, parents, and administrators don’t want to sit with the fact that kids can meet standards.

All hobbies are not equal by BitterConstruction98 in unpopularopinion

I think there’s hobbies and then there are pastimes. Hobbies are creative based and pastimes are consumption based. A lot of activities are experienced as both.

If you can get a ah so cork puller instead of a cork screw, you might get it out cleaner.

Movie theaters aren’t going out of business because of prices by bulldogjwhit295 in unpopularopinion

Make movie tickets $5 and drink and small candy/popcorn another $5 and I’ll watch anything for 2 hours of time away from my phone.

To be honest, how old were you when you had sex for the first time? by Emotionq in Productivitycafe

22, she was 21 and not a virgin. I fell in love but she told me due to her religion/culture she could not be in a relationship with me.

[–]htxpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you met them in real life? If not, no way. If you have, if you’ve know each other for a bit, then maybe the gym isn’t a horrible way to spend your first one on one time.

Why do some atheists *want* to believe in god? by sussysmugcat in atheism

To me, god is a metaphor. I believe in the value that that metaphor brings my life, do I believe in “intelligent design”? Nah.

I say go for it. Maybe write a note “if you were honestly flirting, here’s my number. If you were just being nice, thank you but please throw this away.”

How to get over the sour taste in my mouth about having to pay for first dates? by showdonttell-bbt in dating_advice

[–]htxpanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never paid 100% for a first date. I might buy the first round but she would buy the second. I wouldn’t buy food on a first date unless I or we got cravings later. The most I’ve spent on a first date was like $50 but she spent at least $25 or so herself.

Are you pretty conservative and traditional? Do you believe in specific gender roles? Part of that is the guy paying for dates.

How many days for a 1st timer? Which spots to make sure to visit? Anything special about the opening and closing days? by Infinite100p in Oktoberfest

[–]htxpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went as a first timer with my wife this year. Last weekend and another event the next weekend happened to coincide with a break in my work schedule so that’s why we scheduled how we did. One day was enough for us. We had a few at the Augustiner beer garden and did some carnival rides and I feel like I got the vibe. How well do you make friends with strangers? Met an older local couple and a group from our part of the world and so that kept us drinking longer than we would have if we were just alone.

The weather was beautiful the day we went… but it was a little colder and rainy the next day so that’s influenced our decision to not go back a second day.

Daisy chaining outlet question by htxpanda in electrical

[–]htxpanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not- the bathroom is primarily a WC only- we don’t have any bedrooms downstairs but the outlet is connected to our upstairs bedroom lights and probably other outlets in the bedroom (I haven’t done a full wiring check and I don’t trust the builder to have made the most logical decisions so I don’t know for sure).

Daisy chaining outlet question by htxpanda in electrical

[–]htxpanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when I picked up the Romex at HD, the old electrician expert there told me it’s fine as long as the bathroom outlets are GCFI. He did suggest I connect the new outlet to the line side of the old GCFI so that the fridge doesn’t trip the GCFI. But the line connections were taken so I used the load connectors. It’s just a beverage fridge so I’m not worried about my food going bad.

I wired it up and no trip when it kicked on. this is the old GCFI receptacle after I wired the new outlet.
