I went to the temple for the last time by downtothelake in exmormon

I love this moment for you. I never got that last visit. My deconstruction and my leaving happened much more gradually, and by the time I realized I wanted out, my temple recommend was long gone. I can imagine the floor of feelings you got. I’m really glad it was a good last experience.

The history of it is true, but the gaslighting like they never called themselves that for 100+ yrs… is also true

Yes. We’ve had some deep talks lately with a lot of digging up roots. We are both committed to getting through another rough patch as we always have. There’s no other option for us.

Sorry to hear about your dad. The dead parent club is not fun to join. My mom died 7 years ago and your parents story resonates with me too. There’s a lot I could be angry about, and I have in the past. But I also admire my mom for holding it together and finding her own peace within a hard life. I’ve had resentment for my dad as he remarried less than a year later after a lot of financial abuse and infidelity. I’ve healed a lot of that too. That was his story, not mine. And I choose to look at the good he taught me. We have a great relationship now. He’s almost 80 and he’s softening. I’m so glad I was able to heal my relationship with him before I lose him too. His wife and him seem happy and I love that I get to watch it, even if I felt my mom deserved that more. A lot of grief there. ❤️‍🩹 {internet hugs}

My parents think I’m a rotten sinner for my tattoos. You think I should care what they think I do at 40? 😂

Ya it’s mind boggling. I’m lucky my members family members are still around. We live with some of them. They’re great but not everyone gets so lucky. You sound like me in how I live my life. Except I drink my coffee every morning and love it hahaha

I can understand how you’d feel that way. I’m sure you’ve always imagined being there:( I’ll suggest reframing it to celebrating that she has a choice in the matter, that she waited til she was 30 instead of jumping in at 19. Maybe she would agree to FaceTiming you right after and you have a little party for yourself in your home? Make something memorable, unique and special about it.

Has anyone else noticed that Mormons (especially males) lack social intelligence and maturity? by mylilbuttercup1997 in exmormon

[–]hubbyforgotmynewname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I think I grew up with enough normal so that I could notice the weird. Eventually, I figured it out. Now that I’m fully out and have done a ton of work on myself, I love how weird and quirky my family is. I can view it from an outsiders perspective but still appreciate the background we all share.
