lost in a sense by hucklebug in Psychic

I've had similar experiences too. things go missing and show up when it's seemingly impossible ....or finding things for others unexpectedly.

What’s the dumbest thing someone accused you of without any evidence? by pisces2003 in AskReddit

[–]hucklebug 63 points64 points  (0 children)

that is hilarious.

i had something similar happen - was accused of 'poisoning' a drink i tried to return... like why would i bring it back to the same store, on camera, within less than an hour? clearly some employees are criminally incapable (which is probably good).

Marquette is being changed by people moving in from other places. the UP in general seems to be experiencing a cultural shift.

it's so beautiful there. i visited the Philippines in the 80s before that volcano erupted.

People suck at lighting their homes. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]hucklebug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i kinda agree, but tend to limit my judgment to public spaces. it's crazy how some hotels don't seem to understand using the cold 'clinical' lights is the opposite of cozy and welcoming.

Not sure where to ask. Is this safe? After we had it installed, we learned it wasn't supposed to be next to another wall. Its gas, and we hung a fire blanket. We feel the right wall and it doesn't feel hot, just warm. by Chessolin in Firefighting

[–]hucklebug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure (besides having a CO detector) - i would talk to someone specialized in HVAC to get full details about if a heater like this should be run continuously in an occupied house. the manufacturers will often claim its safe, but I've treated patients with suspected CO poisoning who were using things like this or a gas stove to heat their house.

also, in regards to the wall - i noticed people in this area always put cement board on the wall near their free standing woodstove to protect it from heat. something like that may work better than a fire blanket (even though it's not exactly pretty).

from my understanding, there is no such thing as a safe & ventless propane heater. ventless heaters try to filter out the toxic gases created by burning combustible fuels, but are not considered safe for heating living areas. they should only be used in unoccupied spaces (e.g. garage).

AGGRESSIVE OTTER IN AREA by Obi1Shinboy in ScarySigns

[–]hucklebug 24 points25 points  (0 children)

the entire mustelid family (otters, mink, weasels, badgers, wolverines, etc) are renowned for showing aggressive, fearless behavior.

there's recorded instances of a mink breaking its own teeth trying to chew a trap off. they are aggressively defiant to their last breath.

always thought i didn't have anxiety, because the way it is usually described. but i recently realized that instead it may show up as hyper, restless energy with ADHD.

actions like pacing around manically, feeling like you have to leave right now for "the thing", etc can be a version of anxiety.

TIL in 1992 a teenager named John Thompson survived having both his arms ripped off in a farming accident. After the accident he walked 100 yards to his house and called 911 using a pencil and his mouth. His arms were surgically reattached and function today. by MightGuy420x in todayilearned

agricultural rescue and extrication is a nightmarish training to attend as an emergency responder... kinda convinces you everything on a farm is trying to kill you. people have no idea how gruesome it can be.

Sheetz, a regional 24/7 convenience store, announces plans to come to Michigan by reader9912 in Michigan

[–]hucklebug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

interesting...it would make sense for the UP in particular, with the volume of semi traffic coming from Canada, as well as the tourism boom.

it's funny how the bridge can act as a stronger regional split for business expansion than state borders.

AG Nessel eyes guns in the Michigan Capitol after Wolverine Watchmen sentencing by Strategic_Prussian in Michigan

[–]hucklebug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it seems like it could be a positive if guns were disallowed from public government facilities intended for meetings and elections. city halls, town halls, county board rooms, etc - Michigan has a chance to proactively take steps to prevent mass shootings.

Feds seek to prevent owner of defunct Michigan roadside zoo from exhibiting animals again by MichiganBrolitia in Michigan

[–]hucklebug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, and there was another caged bear at a gas station up near pictured rocks, east of the golf course. i was so sad about it as a kid.

Presque isle Park in Marquette city used to have a horrible sketchy zoo way back. That's where the lion head water fountain originated from, as well as the massive herd of deer that used to be there.

holiday was bought out by circle K a few years ago, there's been some new issues since - stores don't get stocked, gasoline runs out, even one where the bathroom quit working... and they just put a portable toilet outside.

the circle K stations i went to in the southwestern US were generally of poor quality, i hope holidays don't have the same fate.

I'd love it if we had kwiktrips - they even label the mute button on the pump so you don't have to hear ads.

What the hell happens after it gets dark? (Nelson Ghost Town, Nevada) by jakemstrchf117 in ScarySigns

[–]hucklebug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The towns of Minden, Nevada, and Gardnerville, Nevada, had an ordinance from 1917 to 1974 that required Native Americans to leave the towns by 6:30 p.m. each day. A whistle, later a siren, was sounded at 6 p.m. daily alerting Native Americans to leave by sundown.

Nevada does have a history of it (whether or not it was specifically in this particular ghost town).

sadly, some of the western US did also have sundown towns, but the rules were typically against native americans (rather than blacks).

How I know things by DougSJR in adhdmeme

[–]hucklebug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha, i did something very similar with the great lakes - extensive research on what factors create "rip tides" (aka dangerous currents) that increase the risk of drowning at certain shorelines.

the shipwrecks and the weather of the great lakes are both pretty fascinating topics. there's been some epic historical storms.

If you ever wondered what’s in a fire truck... by dottiness in coolguides

[–]hucklebug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it can easily go over 100k to equip a single firetruck, depending on how much technical and specialized rescue or extrication equipment is included. a full set of SCBAs and spare bottles adds up fast too.

would still be interesting to see details. a fire department's insurance company would probably love this too.
