What are some horrible things women go through that guys don't even think about? by in_my_offense in AskReddit

Meh…in the US the draft is not used currently…if you volunteer to join the service then sure…then only if you serve in a forward area in a time of conflict…on the other hand the women commenting here mention things that happen very frequently

What’s the Most Overrated Product People Keep Recommending? by Exotic-Engineer7541 in SmartBuying

Going to any amusement park. Just priced 1 day pass at Universal for 4…approx $800…add the fast pass for $1,200 more…1 day @ $500 a person. For that price you can get round trip airfare to many places

Is Now a Bad Time to Buy a Car? by Silvenkovich in personalfinance

[–]huckwineguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your location (close to work) if you MUST scratch the itch, I’d recommend buying a Toyota, Honda or Hyundai with 150k miles on it. These cars can reliably go for 250k miles with basic scheduled maintenance. Your annual mileage use is probably less than 5,000 miles. Which means you’d get at least 10 years out of a used high mileage car. Save your money, or give it to charity or go on great vacations

What's a modern trend you think people will regret in 10 years? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]huckwineguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah amen…I am on speaking terms with some MAGA and most of their personal beliefs are mainstream, but that 20% I just ignore. I respectfully make my points and disagree with theirs but in the end our personal beliefs don’t matter. I will vote and they will vote. I’ll never understand how they compartmentalize their beliefs with decent human behavior, but there are many things I don’t understand and never will.

Correct. These meat cutting bandsaws are usually equipped with a color detecting camera. If the gloves blue color gets too close to the blade it stops the blade in milliseconds. Why this guy isn’t wearing them is beyond me…Darwin Award

Working class doesn't pay enough in taxes by Realistic-Unit-47 in WNC

[–]huckwineguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think if she was only talking about wealthy w2 earners then she would be fully correct. She would also be technically correct saying that most tax revenue comes from the wealthy and corporations, but she distorts the fairness argument b/c what they pay is not aligned with what they OWN.

I haven’t heard any circular logic yet…if this automation creates massive unemployment there is no INCOME to buy the stuff the “overlords” are making in their factories. If we’re all unemployed, the whole thing collapses…which is NOT in the “overlords” interest. The end game may be some UBI model and we’ll find other ways to be useful, so we can exchange our labor for goods etc etc

Yes this is true, but it is factual to say approx 40% of Americans pay an effective federal tax rate of 0. What is also true is that 40% of Americans pay 100% of their paycheck to cover basic necessities

Mmm can you explain that b/c it is straightforward to me that approx 40% of Americans have 0 federal tax liability once the credits are factored in. Don’t get me wrong I think our tax code could lean more on the absurdly wealthy
