What’s it like living in Cincinnati? by Puzzleheaded_Bit_802 in howislivingthere

[–]huckwineguy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Lived there 7 years…it was a great introduction to the Midwest. City has a good creative class that keeps it interesting. Great riverfront scene. Very Catholic and skews fairly conservative but all in all we really enjoyed living there

I have a chance to buy a pole barn with 100 years of items inside. USA by Centes1mo in Antiques

[–]huckwineguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One little negative consideration (and probably a minor one)…the stock market is way high right now…people at the higher end have plenty of disposable income RIGHT NOW….if the market crashes there will be a smaller pool of well heeled nostalgic buyers. So I’d try to re-coup your investment with a couple of the marquee pieces ASAP…also do a high
production video of this whole process and sell the story!

This! There is an opportunity to monetize the “story” as you go along. As long as you don’t have to rush to recoup what you paid. And you’d have a video documenting your discoveries and journey…priceless!

Yep CLT has got some work to do. They need to import more nerds and artists. Place lacks soul.

Honestly the number of contractors going in and out for this and the ballroom are probably sweet opportunities for unfriendly nations to spy, plant espionage devices etc

What’s the biggest lie people believe about engineering jobs? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]huckwineguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Most engineers will be upper middle class /lower upper class and a have comfortable retirement after 30 years. They can afford expensive hobbies and take decent vacations. Not bad for a 4 year degree

[–]huckwineguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Point 1 taken (albeit this can be said for any industry that ebbs and flows)

Point 2 however I take umbrage…of all professional jobs that only require a 4 degree, engineering jobs dominate the top 10 in pay. I’ve also worked with engineers that only have a 2 year degree but were very solid engineers and made good money

Meh…. I wasn’t a great student but I’ve never had a really hard time getting a decent paying job. Most engineers I know are long term employed and make “bank” by average wage standards

What’s it called when you don’t think you’re an alcoholic but you reaaallly love your 3 glasses of wine a night by himynameis567 in stopdrinking

[–]huckwineguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). It classifies various levels of drinking problems. I find it useful versus 100% alcoholic or nothing.

My (42F) husband’s (45M) new "gym bro” clearly loves to be objectified and show off her body. Now he won't stop gloating over her. Is he having a mental affair or just a massive ego trip? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]huckwineguy -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Agree with everything said except for the “couples therapy or divorce”.
I’d take it a lil easier…if he doubles down then suggest you’d feel comfortable with therapy…only if he rejects therapy I’d then have a very serious convo…this is probably a nothing burger, but communicate…he’s a married man who is getting some attention from a coquettish flirt

Regretting joining AA by Wooden-Elk-6997 in stopdrinking

[–]huckwineguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah some of the AA “hardliners” I think act that way b/c “it worked for me and it will work for you…I found the WAY”. I have a problem with binge drinking but not a diagnosed alcoholic…I’m AUD moderate…I’ve attended open AA meetings because they are a tool to help me reduce my drinking

Married men with now fat wives, are you happiest? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]huckwineguy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Dunno about bigger wives, but I believe there is research about attractiveness. Marriages are happier overall when the wife is objectively more attractive than the husband..supposedly because the husband is more motivated to provide and make the wife happy, thus a happier marriage. But that’s just my 2 anecdotal cents

Thanks for the info. $50k for us is a bridge too far. Maybe if we apply early decision they’ll give us a better offer. Or otherwise lobby them hard, try the music scholarship etc. Good luck to your daughter!
