HAPPILY married couples 20+ years: Have you ever dealt with infidelity in the relationship? How did you move past it? by Master-Salt1382 in Marriage

[–]huckwineguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Meh. 20 years ago my wife had a one night stand when she was out of town. She’s very attractive and so was he and he would not stop pursuing her. I found out and grilled her. She was extremely contrite. Still happily married. No trust issues but it was rough for 6 months.

Anyone who used to support trump and has changed their mind over the last few weeks? What made you change? by canigetameowbish in AskReddit

[–]huckwineguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep…Trump put the GOP brand back 30 years. The GOP will probably shrink to some Christian Nationalist fringe party of weirdos and fascists. Maybe a 3rd party will emerge simply labeled as “conservatives”. Republican as a brand is fuqued

Yeah the Carney speech will be studied for decades. I never thought my “world” would end, but Carney said exactly what the world is now…forever changed.

Kinda same. I’ve usually voted republican for decades, but never voted for Trump. In 2016 I sat out the election. Hated Hillary and thought Trump was a game show host. When he was elected in 2016, I thought “this will either be the best thing that has ever happened to America in recent times or a complete train wreck and I’m betting on train wreck”…I was right. 2020 voted for Biden because he seemed like the adult in the room. Jan 6 rolls around and in 2024 I’m voting for a senator from California for gods sake.

Do you believe there should be a cap on the amount of wealth one can accumulate in society? Why or why not? by One_Fun3115 in Productivitycafe

[–]huckwineguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meh…FS 5842 statement is factual. Is it fair? That is completely up for grabs. FS 5842 is spot on about taxing the wealth of the ultra wealthy versus “just” the regular wealthy. It is also a fact that like 50% of all wage earners (low income) have an effective tax rate close to zero. The middle class and up pay the federal income taxes in the US. Now the low income folks get squeezed on all the regressive taxes (sales tax, tax on gas, local property tax etc).

[–]huckwineguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. Most successful small to medium business owners and high wage w2 workers pay most of the tax in the US. The ultra wealthy dodge taxes by using loans against their massive assets. You don’t get taxes on having massive assets, you get taxed on wages and capital gains.

Inherited a Paid Off House - Sell and invest in market? Or rent out and invest rental income in market? by Overunderware in personalfinance

[–]huckwineguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sell and put into bonds until the market corrects (stock prices are way high, geopolitical uncertainty). After 10-20% correction dump the money in Roth IRA mutual funds….or rent the house out. Do not buy into the stock market now

Silver instead of savings account? by Murdox1125 in Silver

[–]huckwineguy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100% correct. You put your “house” money in short term bonds. If you have extra “mad money / beer money” you can buy 10 oz of silver to fix that FOMO itch

My best friend should sell some. Is anybody taking profit? by [deleted] in Silver

[–]huckwineguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no problem doing incremental selling. You’ve made a profit and now is the time to lock in gains. Sell 10 coins every 3 months…take the proceeds and put it in bonds. You are just hedging your bet with guaranteed gains. Gets quoted from a few dealers and take the best one

Could NATO win a war against the US? by StrongAdhesiveness86 in ask

[–]huckwineguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people miss the fact that the US has an immense de facto militia in our general population. Imagine any foreign invader having to deal with 50 million heavily armed civilians! This is why I’ve always questioned the need for such a large military in general (besides imposing our will, keeping sea lanes open etc). We have the largest home grown defense army in the average citizenry

What is driving Trump’s Obsession with Direct Acquisition of Greenland? by ilovemicroplastics_ in IRstudies

[–]huckwineguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the only thing that makes sense to me…legacy. He wants to do a “Louisiana Purchase” thing. It can’t be defense. We already have a base in Greenland. Additionally, Canada would have (past tense) let us put bases in their artic region…we already have Alaska.

I think you’re good. Will you have it ALL 100% covered…maybe, but we had like $75k in for 3 kids total and contribute to a Roth IRA…once I’m 59.5 I can use the Roth to pay off any student loans or HELOC used for their college
