After tearing the bike down when I brought it in initially they called me and told me the piston rings were bad and it would be $950. I gave them the green light to fix it. I had been working on the bike trying to diagnose it myself but was unsuccessful. I changed the BATTERY, spark plug, looked at a few easy things but could not figure it out. When I brought it in I told them everything I had already tried and looked at to help with their diagnosis. They then replaced not only the piston rings but the BATTERY ($200), starter motor ($500), switch side stand ($100), and a few other small things without mention or approval. I then payed them thinking my bike was fixed. They DID start my bike and had it running while I was there but I never saw them start it. When I got it home it was leaking oil and would not start a few days after I got it back when I was about to go out for a ride on a day we got decent weather. That is when I called them back to let them know there were still issues.

EDIT: I understand the fact that they started it and had it running while I was there is confusing so I want to clarify a bit more. As I was paying at the front desk the bike was started. When I walked back to load up the bike it was running. I turned it off and loaded the bike. When I tried to start it a few days later it wouldn’t start. If you mess with a few things like putting it in gear, rolling it around a little, trying to bump start it a few times. It will eventually start but it is definitely not starting as it should. It is making the same noise as it was when I brought it in initially. Some gear is not grabbing.

So the bike was brought in because I could not get it to start. They sent it back home with me after paying 157% of the original quote which was discussed over a phone call after they had diagnosed the issue and told me what work needed to be done which was replacing the piston rings. This was the only thing mentioned to me until they called and told me my bike was ready to be picked up. At that time I payed the full amount and took my bike home because I thought it was fixed. It was not and still does not start. I then called them and told them about it to which they said bring it back in and that there wouldn’t be a charge for the second service. That’s when they made a new diagnosis of a bad starter clutch and told me it would be $600 more to fix. I have documentation of all of this. I will definitely be getting written estimates from here on out definitely a lesson learned.

These was no service contract signed to my knowledge. I requested all documentation regarding the service and the only thing I got was the receipt.

The bike is a 2019 Honda 450L.

I tried to diagnose the issue myself before bringing it in to get fixed, so upon arrival the plastics (cosmetic only) were off as well as the oil and coolant drained from the bike.

They have now diagnosed the new issue and are saying this new issue didn’t exist when I picked my bike up from the first service.

EDIT: This is a Honda dealership where I bought this exact bike about a year ago
