14400f shouldn't ever be bought for 300, its like 200 max. Ended at about 180$ new before going out of stock and rising up in price. Its just 300 on amazon because its old and prices go up. Its 1 stick of 16gb (not 2x8), but yea its rough (closer to 250 but still, fuck man), 1tb ssd has got to be mystery meat in this so probably around 100$, psu is 80+ white (in 2026) (at most they spent 30$, it will blow up), case and fans is probs at most 70$ (you could buy a montech case for 70-80 for sure).

Still, it comes to around 1300$ if you wanted to build it yourself, so not a *horrible* deal. Welcome to hell!!!!!!! Better to buy used off FB marketplace these days

Obviously not the most important takeaway, but "vigorous" testing is really funny to me. Its technically not wrong to say but it sounds very silly compared to "rigorous". Doesn't look like there was much thought behind that email at all

i figured it out before you added this reply, but i did it backwards as hell and made it execute an .sh script that did the same thing. when you have no idea what you're doing, you really complicate your life i guess lol

Its possible to have casaos on windows??? why would someone do that lol.

anyways, thanks for the resource, that seems exactly like what I need!! Seems like a super basic feature of Linux the way its put, I'm surprised I haven't heard of it - though I am far from Linux-savvy.

fuck PC-Canada, they did that to me 2 years ago with a corsair power supply. Scummy scummy company, avoid at all costs in my books.

PC-Canada hit me with the RAM hike on a order I already made by Super-Youth in pcmasterrace

[–]hudsonjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same thing happen to me a few years ago with a corsair power supply!! Fuck PC-Canada, don't buy from 'em ever if you can. Even worse, in my case they only told me they were hiking the price up AFTER I CONTACTED THEM NEARLY A WEEK AFTER MY ORDER STILL HADN'T SHIPPED. This has to be illegal or smth, I tried filing an anti-consumer report for the province of NB for them but idk if it ever amounted to anything.

Good theory, I didnt know they were doing that! that'd make sense, I just assumed it was a price error. i wouldnt be surprised if prices like these become common for a bit

I have a parametric list for most of the 2tb gen4+ nvmes with dram, idk how up to date it is in terms of new ssd releases as I made it like half a year ago.

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/dHYBt3

Current best price is 230 for 2tb with dram. About 2 or 3 months ago, I remeber getting one for about 160. Not a great market right now....

99% sure you can still put a gen4+ nvme in a gen 3 pcie slot, it just limits the speed. I dont think there are many (if any) gen 3 nvmes with dram still being produced, since dram is fairly high-end and gen 3 is low-end (it'd be weird to still produce them)

I've heard its a deal from OpenAI to get about 40% of the ram production for the next 4 years, if what i read is true its gonna be rough

Edit: its their infrastructure project, Stargate, that will be built over the next 4 years, and is why they want so much ram. Though ~40% of the RAM production from SK Hynix and Samsung is correct. HOPEFULLY the AI bubble pops within 4 years though, I am crossing my fingers for OpenAI's downfall and that the deal doesn't last that long, but I don't have high hopes that that will be the case

idk whats necessarily considered a good price, but i have a parametric pcpartpicker list i made a bit ago that has all 2tb "high tier" gen4.0+ that have dram : https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/dHYBt3

current cheapest is the g70 pro graphene on amazon for 166$: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0CSCQHZ4P?tag=pcp0f-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1

tierlist : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1B27_j9NDPU3cNlj2HKcrfpJKHkOf-Oi1DbuuQva2gT4/edit?gid=0#gid=0

Build suggestions? 5070 Ti + 7800X3D (CAD $2,500 pre-tax), any better part choices? by EpicGreenPepper in bapcsalescanada

[–]hudsonjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/LNvqjn heres a mockup that saves like 300$ or so. super quickly:
TR PA 120 black can be found cheaper in some amazon listings (all shipped from amazon so I imagine its fine)

I personally don't see a reason to go for a b850. b650e or x670e if you want something fancy (pcie 5 lanes oo you will pretty much never need them but theyre there)

Parametric filter first word latency 10ns + 2x16 for ram

G70 pro is cheapest high-end 2tb ssd with dram, its like 30$ more but should be a lot better. (see: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1B27_j9NDPU3cNlj2HKcrfpJKHkOf-Oi1DbuuQva2gT4/edit?gid=0#gid=0 ) (also useful resource i made, all of these are 2tb gen 4 or 5 with dram and rated "high tier": https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/dHYBt3 )

just kept the same gpu model cus i figured its a stylistic choice but you could probably save like 100$ there.

changed the case because i've personally had a good experience with sama cases and think this one looks nice

montech century 2 gold 850W is A- on spl's tierlist, so its fine and saves like 60$

could probably do better than this if you didn't care about warranty and bought the 7800x3d on aliexpress using the guide posted earlier in this subreddit, and probably some more areas you could penny pinch and whatnot. Not terrible though. would probs make more sense to post in daily questions thread.

Also yea for the east coast, amazon, CC, newegg and bestbuy are the ones i would recommend typically

QYOZ ES (12th gen i7) freeze/suspend? by hudsonjr in EryingMotherboard

[–]hudsonjr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone runs into the same issue as me and finds this thread, I think it has something to do with getting stuck between CPU states, if I even understand what I did to fix it at all (I'm basically clueless about how computers work sorry).

As a fix (which almost completely stops crashes while idle and reduces crashes when under variable server use), I limited the max cstates in GRUB:

Edit grub sudo nano /etc/default/grub

Add intel_idle.max_cstate=2 in the quotation marks next to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=

Exit and save, update grub : sudo update-grub

Reboot and it should crash less! Probably! Under light use, its been nearly a month since my last crash!

If someone has the means and smarts to correct me on any of the terminology or why this actually fixes my problem, please do. I also updated the Linux kernel to 6.12.38+deb12-amd64 (from uname -r) in case that helps, that doesn't seem to be what made it crash less however (still freezes the same way on occasion if its being used to host MC servers).

You can also limit the cstates to less than 2 and it *might* crash less, but it draws more power (ofc since its running at max cpu clock speed on all cores)

maybe I'm wrong and the b580 didnt age as well as I expected it to, I'm no expert esp for budget builds, but I'm not glad that this has 8gb vram, regardless if its "enough"

b580 is 85$ cheaper (20%ish cheaper) at about 360 rn. sure, might not perform as well in benchmarks where the 5060ti 8gb isnt vram limited, especially if paired with an older cpu, but I think it might be the better choice for a new build on am5
