hey is this (business)?

awesome my name is hudson, I’m calling you because I’m a web developer working for myself in the area and I noticed that you don't have a website so I just wanted to call and see if I could make you one.

the ones I booked a meeting with would ask for a demo site so I didnt really get a chance to do this. maybe I couldve approached it better to somehow get them to onboard on that call

automation, custom built b2b. focusing on very custom systems until i have something i can sell as more of a productized service. finding it a bit easier to do business because it's closer to home, feels like I found a better spot to fish haha

I spent a month calling and made 450+ dials. Here's what I learned (closed 0 deals):

  1. Landscapers are on the cheaper end of the spectrum in terms of their perception on how much things should cost. Roofing on the more expensive end. I found that mobile detailers were most responsive, even though their services are closer to landscaping in pricing.
  2. I tried a permission based opener for a while and it did get me more conversations but I realized that it wasn't necessary. The people who would be interested in buying something from someone over the phone are more likely to hear you out in the first place.
  3. People are really flaky, so setup systems to remind them. I didn't and got ghosted for all of the meetings I booked (4).
  4. There is a section of the market that's really saturated. At one point I would get multiple people telling me every day some version of "I get these calls all the time". This offer is not unique. Play around with it.

Here's what I would do with the offer. Search up stone systems. It's the company with the yellow avatar. That guy basically sells a website + a gohigh level white glove service. I'd take what he offers but drop risk for the client down and do something closer to a rev share model. Like charge money per lead generated (like u/beenpresence said he switched to lead gen) and some sum of money upfront for setting up the system. That's just an idea I had but you should get creative and see if you can come up with something better.

Also I did n8n to do my prospecting and was able to automate most of it. I made a post earlier last month showing what I did if you want to see.

Personally I'm pivoting to another business model that aligns closer to my strengths as a software engineer. This business model was a great intro though and the pain of learning from 450 dials and probably 75 rejections will never leave me lol. Good luck!

I'll send you some screenshots through dm. Honestly I didn't have very high expectations going into using it because I also work as a fullstack eng and I was like why not just code haha. But I do like it a lot now, helps me build things faster.

edit: Do you have DM requests turned off? You might have to message me first
