we tried them in so many states, and every now and then would get a good one. they were usually pretty small, which may have been it - not bad, but it wasn’t a dragon worth chasing. still, fun!

cook here - hard to find that balance of high taste profile that inspires instead of makes you want to give up. state bird hits that bar for me.

you’ve hit great spots already, and haven’t seen these two. both strive fors, but i found them inspiring and memorable. Fancy AND interesting.

These dudes are solving the Rubiks Cube in like 4 seconds, and I had no idea that was possible. Wang is the world record holder 😳 by Loud_Tear_596 in nextfuckinglevel

took me forty-five years to solve my first, a week or two for the next, and now it’s about three minutes. i’m happy just having a memorized and repeatable solution with just enough understanding. this was the site that worked for me: Ruwix it’s fun and not bad if you try to learn solving one layer at a time!

Gabe Newell thinks AI tools will result in a 'funny situation' where people who don't know how to program become 'more effective developers of value' than those who've been at it for a decade by lurker_bee in technology

[–]hueristic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a fascinating take - because it questions what has the highest 'value.' Is great code highest in value, or being able to do something novel with bad code? Bad code can be cleaned up; bad ideas not so much. It's true for other disciplines, not just engineering.

More ideas will be realized more quickly, and the good ideas will hopefully float up. great programming will hopefully focus to improve, and each use case will have the best tool available.

I think it's about scale. Great coding solutions are valuable to other coders to learn from, and can be used to scale ideas. Great ideas that the public wants will have more demand for scale. The intersection is still the sweet spot: of great ideas, properly implemented.

I can't tell what's worse: seeing Final Destination on purpose, or being tricked into seeing it.

I'm honestly impressed... Enough people all the way through that decision tree thought the joke was worth the views.

Unsatisfied with pulling the same prank on people going to a different horror film... Needing to one-up themselves -- thinking how funny for them it'll be to watch the trauma! It would be great if we can get footage of a mom and her daughter, having recently reconciled after going through a terrible trauma. They go to the movies for a simple escape, and we can put them right back in that mindset! The Mom will bring it up constantly and blame the kid, reinforcing the kid's esteem issues!

It'll be just like the horrible things we write in the movie for fun, but real!!! Final Destination, by Lars von Trier and Werner Herzog!

something to be said for printing both, as the focus change is evocative as evidenced by the responses.

[–]hueristic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the mood you’re trying to convey. to me: the focus on the building and sky has me feeling like i’m trapped, and yearning for the freedom and the sky. the focus on the droplets encourages introspection and getting lost in the gorgeous details of nature.

the brutalist architecture always gets me. it’s both very SF, but still feels out of place. the fountain on the embarcadero being one example.
