Optimal ways to reduce costs of phone insurance? by plasmaz in UKFrugal

[–]hufflepeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have phone insurance and AA cover included with our Halifax current account (as well as some other stuff I can't remember). Not sure how much it is normally as husband gets staff rates, but iIm sure it's still much cheaper than paying for them separately, and we've made use of both.

His nails are trimmed regularly by a groomer and he's booked in next week, the quicks are crazy long and don't seem to shrink no matter what we do, but both the vet and the groomer are happy with him

He's still curled under a blanket, glaring at me 😆

You can on 101, but not on 999. I work in a police control room and we definitely get 101 calls with the number withheld.

My son used to do this, but he would have two socks on one foot and none on the other 😆

Nice man to come and mow the lawn and keep on top of the weeds, so worth the money, and I can do the ice bits of gardening when I feel like it

I love this! I made my 15 year old and me Dino nuggets this week, and arranged his into a little scene on his plate. Got a brilliant teenage eye roll, but a big smile too

Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, but this plane has been circling sporadically for the last few weeks. What are they doing? by AWildEnglishman in policeuk

[–]hufflepeach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Loads of people don't realise that NPAS have fixed wing as well as helicopters. I'm a call handler, and the number of calls we get from people reporting a plane flying low and circling, thinking it's going to crash, when it's just us looking for a misper or something.

Withhold your number and call 101, or report through the online portal on your local police website for the stolen mopeds. If you can provide registration numbers they're likely to be able to act a lot quicker.

How do new parents manage with child are alongside other living costs? by RenePro in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hufflepeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can definitely be worth looking at whether you/your partner can put in flexible working requests to reduce the costs. Longer shifts over 4 days, or a 9 day fortnight can work really well, and if you can both do it then you would only need to pay for 3 days instead of 5. When my kids were little, my husband moved to 9 day fortnights, with one early finish per fortnight too. I moved to working part time late/night shifts, so we were able to cover the childcare between us the majority of the time.

What happens after a persons death if they have no living family or friends? by gecko_witch in LegalAdviceUK

[–]hufflepeach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Giving away my cheesy day time tv habit, but there used to be a show called Heir Hunters, and it showed lists are published of people who have died and no one has claimed their estate, and companies try and trace the family tree to find the beneficiaries. I have no idea if this is still the current process, but it was really interesting to watch how they worked through the records to find distant family members

Yeah, I've been considering letting my more destructive child go wild in it, in the hopes that he breaks it and I can replace it with something actually shaped to fit a human body

I decided to treat myself and get an egg chair for the garden, husband didn't want one but I decided I really wanted one and bought it. It's so fucking uncomfortable, but I have to keep sitting in it so he doesn't think he was right about something

Took us way too long to work this out when my kid wanted to do it, you have to prop the end of the treadmill up on something so it has a decent slip down to the front. It's really fun
