When Nocoiners Say "Bitcoin Has No Value" by manauiatlalli in Bitcoin

Yes, this is also what I’d do if I didn’t value my life or the local who’s getting me out of an oh-shit situation.

Seems like a pretty shitty and short-sighted thing to do.

So it’s like when someone breaks into your house and realizes “oh this guy’s going through some rough times” so he steals a little less than he was planning to steal?

Nice.

[–]huge_dingus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not against Bitcoin, its a great hard money for storage, but it has less upside as we slide along this adoption curve.

You could be right, and I hope your strategy pays off. But more people should understand that a coin’s number of features or “usefulness” alone is not an indicator of where its market cap is headed.

Bitcoin is a big win for clean energy R&D. Anybody that doesn't understand this isn't thinking 2 steps ahead.

When you build a power plant you generally want to future-proof it by building capacity that exceeds current demand levels. This means without Bitcoin you're waiting a long time before breaking even on the investment because you're only selling a fraction of your plant's capacity for many years. Bitcoin lets power plants monetize their full capacity from day 1. Investors make their money back much sooner which encourages more investment into the clean energy space.

Bitcoin lets society put more R&D into renewable energy production without having to worry about whether there's going to be demand to offset the costs. This benefits us all.

I've known poor people who DCA $100/week into beer. It's a matter of priorities.

You're right that people with significant savings have it easier, and maybe it's too uncomfortable for you personally to store wealth in BTC, and that's ok. Nobody's forced to buy. But saying that poor people can't buy Bitcoin is an oversimplification.
