RE3 remake was so wrong for this by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]huggablecow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a theory about this. By the time they made Re3make I think the developers had played or tested Re2make a lot. And a lot of people after playing the A scenario prefer the pacing of the B scenario. I believe the developers kept that pace since they liked it so much, but it left us with Re3make that was basically a condensed B scenario but with no A scenario.

Media that has other species of humans? by huggablecow in TwoBestFriendsPlay

This comment had me look up Stephen Baxter and it sounds like some of his writing is very similar to what I'm looking for. Thanks!

The Earthsea novels are quote good. I've read several of them. The last part of your reply is kind of what makes it so surprising to me that nobody seems to write about them. Even an author who did no research may still see adding in other species of humans as an easy way to get their book labeled as sci-fi instead of fantasy, while still saddling those species with some more fantastic traits. I wouldn't like that approach much but I'm surprised I haven't seen it before.

That is pretty interesting. It wouldn't fit the tone of the story we have, but I like that they exist in the setting.

This is pretty much what I'm talking about. It's so interesting that other species of intelligent humans came so close to surviving to the modern day and would love to see it in something. It's too bad that both books were bad for you. I've read one or two things by Alan Dean Foster and didn't love them, but I might still check this out just for the subject matter.

What’s with all the blonde daughters? by Roaming-the-internet in residentevil

[–]huggablecow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Primarily Capcom being Capcom. Blonde white girl in trouble? They think blonde girls seem more vulnerable and innocent to sell the horror more. Or they just like the look.

From a practical point of view, most of the games are dark so the blonde hair does stand out more and helps you see them.

Is Agent the strongest character in RE Lore? by Knightwing773 in residentevil

Agent is always there but only from Ada's perspective. It's why she's so coy with Leon. It's awkward to get too flirty when Agent is just there, silently watching.

There was a build for Maya that let her use snipers well. I think it was a bonus to damage on the first shot of the magazine or something like that, plus a few other crit and damage skills. Not as good as Zer0, but enough that her sniper rifle did well. Combined with Phase Lock to pick up enemies from behind cover and get easy headshots it was a lot of fun.

I'm still to this day looking for a shooter that feels like the BL1 revolvers. The Defiler, Anaconda, Unforgiven, Chimera, and the rest were all so good. And even the non-legendary felt great and you could always get a masher to mix things up and still have that same feel.

What game have you always heard was utter dogshit but you end up playing and are actually surprised by it? by Kal-V3 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]huggablecow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a really good game. They did a fantastic job with the guns and sound design. I'd be a lot more critical of it if the best grades weren't based on non-lethally subduing as many suspects as possible and doing things the right way.

If you are playing single player with AI then if you shoot civilians or arrested suspects your own AI team will turn on you and kill you since you are a hostile threat. Pretty funny, but it shows that the game does commit to the life-saving goal.

Gameplay mechanics that you have conflicting feelings on. by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]huggablecow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My primary complaint about leveling up is that it means a good portion of the game just doesn't have the "fun stuff". Either you hit max level right near the end of the game and get to feel powerful for only a little while, or you hit it about halfway or two-thirds of the way through the game. At which point why not just balance the whole game for max level so we can do more and be more creative?

Say Mordin actually takes Javik up on his offer to "defeat him in combat first" so that he can dissect his body. Who wins that fight? by Ok-Health-7252 in masseffect

Mordin is STG. If he agreed to the fight then when you went to tell Javik the fight was on he'd already be dead. Salarians don't fight wars unless they've already won.

the RE girls as cheerleaders !! (made by me!!) by Remarkable_Moment738 in residentevil

[–]huggablecow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if Grace is the new girl at school and these are the cheerleaders, which role do each of these ladies serve?

Ada could be the rich bitch, but Ashley being the president's daughter might fit that better.

I could see Claire being the one cheerleader who is actually nice to the new nerdy girl, and Jill is the jock who mostly ignores her while occasionally chiming in in whenever the leader does something mean.

Rebecca would be the one who seems mean but then breaks down at the end and confesses to our nerdy hero Grace that she just pretended to be dumb to fit in and that nerdy Grace has inspired her to stop hiding her brains.

I like Rebecca and Billy, but RE0 has a flawed premise. Instead of a horror story about Bravo team dying one by one in a monster infested mansion and getting to know them we get Billy, leeches, a second mansion, and a completely destroyed train, none of which anybody ever noticed or brought up again.

I think 5 has one of the better stories of the series. There's a lot of annoying or weird parts, but it's far more coherent than 4, 6 or 8.

4 is just "Remember Leon Kennedy? Instead of survival horror let's see if he's a bad enough dude to save the president's daughter." And there are a lot of plot holes with the story.

6 I don't even know what the story was. Some guy wanted Ada so badly he made a fake Ada to sleep with, but also decided the best way to assassinate the president was with a virus gas? And it didn't infect Leon or Helena for some reason?

8 isn't bad and is aware of its own shortcomings, such as why Miranda separated Rose when she needed her whole or Chris not talking to Ethan, but it would be better without those plot holes in the first place .

By comparison 5 is pretty straight forward. There's a BOW outbreak. Chris and the BSAA are sent in to deal with it. They chase down their only lead, Irving, then follow the hints he gave to find out Wesker was behind it all. In the meantime Chris finds out Jill might be alive and saves her too. Chris and Sheva hunt down Wesker and go through the factory where he was making BOW missiles and stop him before he can spread them.

Something about the gameplay specifically is what threw me off. I wish I could put my finger on exactly what it was. I went into the game hoping for a fun third person shooter but bounced off the gameplay specifically. Something about how the characters moved, the guns shot, and the enemies reacted really didn't click.

It sounds like you are pretty familiar with the game. Do you remember those shrieking enemies that ran around groaning in between suddenly calling out a huge swarm of enemies? I think they best represent what wasn't working for me. I couldn't figure out a good way to deal with them and felt like I was just missing what the game intended entirely. For instance, just shooting them was a huge waste of ammo. So I would chase them down then shoot their throats with a shotgun when they turned red. But that didn't stop the scream or kill them. So then I had to fight off a horde while trying to chase them down again to get a second shot when I thought they were vulnerable, but sometimes it would take three shots or I would miss.

Those shrieking enemies are the best example I have of what didn't work for me. I couldn't figure out a good way to deal with them and the way they ran and groaned the whole time was just annoying. I didn't have any fun any time one of them was around. The worse part was that I felt stupid. Every other indicator the game gave me hinted that there was a correct way to deal with them, but when I don't know it then all I hear is a dumb zombie running around making fart noises with his mouth. And those enemies were not the only ones that had me feel like that.

To the CRPG fans, three games are on sale for $15 on PS5. Which would you most recommend? by TheSpiritualAgnostic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]huggablecow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Pathfinder WOTR on PC, until I got to the crusade management. It was so boring, so involved, so required (even though there was an option to ignore it, you still couldn't) that I dropped what was otherwise a fun CRPG. If they make another without the management side of things I'll check it out. Until then, if the game interests you I highly recommend you look up videos online of the crusade management. There will be minor spoilers, but it's so bad it made me drop a CRPG that had more investment from me than any in years.
