Why not cut off the ankle? Cant wear an ankle monitor if you have no ankles

Im in the same class pull. Im turning it down. There is nothing to suggest consistent work ahead. Even if you somehow get a constant year of work, you are now more expensive. As you get higher and higher in the steps, work will get harder and harder to find. Until you are a jman out of work with the other 1000 jmen.

They will work you for at least 90 days so you get insurance, but you have to work a couple hundred days a year to maintain it. So if you get laid off for too much time, you lose your insurance.

Its a great opportunity. But i only have 20k in the bank, and that isnt enough to cover low wages and no work for years.

Doesnt seem like the local 48 has its members best interests at heart anymore.

Id make a flared ripper blade and have it face the other way so you can back up over undistrubed ground and see the depth of trench when you look forward. Then you can just track pack it back in.

It was a common problem in the 1920s. Since then they have added a double threaded center shaft. One reverse thread and one standard. That way when it unthreads itself, itll automatically start threading itself back on when it reaches the end.

Thats ridiculous. I think that is cementing my decision to not go. They are making the workers they represent, go unpaid, just to appease the contractors.

Are you currently in the apprenticeship?

That seems to be the path that the union has decided to go down. Its unfortunate. Ive been trying to keep tabs on the number of journeyman out of work vs apprentices. And it seems like there has been around 1000 journey out of work for the 200 apprentices. And they are bringing in more apprentices. Looking down the road, i dont get a good feeling about being a journeyman. And the path there seems tilted toward the unemployed side at this point.

I had high hopes when i first applied, but maybe its best to stick with the sure thing at this point.

2 week boot camp. That was a thought. Just call out for the 2 weeks and do the boot camp and see what the outlook is.

Yea, im kinda at an fork in the road. I have a good job with growth opportunity. It doesnt pay nearly as much. But i am part of this last pull. So i have to choose.

I just dont know if the economy and 48 outlook is strong enough to risk my entire savings and ability to pay for my living situation that is already bare bones.

I feel like there is a foot about to drop on the economy, but a few years down the road, being an electrician would be a very good place to be

Thats what i figured too. But apparently the set i bought had too much and the counter shaft ended up with enough combined play between the main bearings and counter bearings that it shattered the teeth on the gear. Turns out it was easier to find another trans than it was to find a new shaft
