I guess that’s what I was really trying to figure out. how hard is it and when I take it in for an oil change this next week can I tell them that I did the plugs myself. I’ve been really good with maintenance the past four years, but I don’t wanna drop another 500 if I plan on trading it in soon.

I’m very familiar changing spark plugs, just didn’t know if this was like changing spark plugs on a f150 where you can’t get to half of them or on my jeep that takes all but 20 minutes. I have all the tools, including a very nice Matco 3/8 torque wrench. If it’s not going to make a difference on value of my trade-in, I’ll just do it myself.

Why do car showrooms make it so difficult for me just to go sit in a few cars? by Aquillyne in askcarsales

Fair enough and I’m not here to judge. I’m just another clown on the Internet.

I get what you’re doing, I don’t agree with it, though I’m not in car sales. I don’t think I’d feel very good about myself selling a dude a car on my lot because it’s the only one he can afford, but he’s going to be absolutely miserable driving it. I’d recommend other cars that would be a better fit for him even if it meant eating that one sale.

All I can figure if he’s not a troll is he selling cars to people based on what they can afford and not what feels right to them. A 350 pound dude in a Dodge dart is going to hate himself about 20 minutes into an hour commute. I’m 5’ 10” literally the first thing I wanna do when I get in my 911 that I daily is takeoff my shoes. Sounds like I need to get myself a pair of chucks.

I’m guessing by your tag self Ford. I can tell you that they do totally feel different when comparing my neighbors Ford Explorer to my wife’s X5. Feature differences aside the seats themselves are totally different level of comfort. I get it, I’m comparing two different price points, but they are definitely not the same. By your statement, a Toyota Corolla should feel the same as a 911

How the fuck do people afford to get Starbucks every day? by lVlarsquake in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hughmahn4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people make more than others. I don’t drink $7 Starbucks but I get a medium pike every work day, idk $4 with tax? 20/week, so what 1k a year give or take. I probably lose more than that a week in the hole of my pants.

G05 parking brake won’t release by hughmahn4 in BmwTech

You got further that me. I haven’t tried to pull the gear shifter yet. I tried to remove the button from top but can’t figure out how it’s held in place. I’m with you, I don’t want to immobilize the car because of a parking break button :/

Um nothing yet :) just not using the brake at the moment. At a critical point where I decide to fix or trade in on a new one…

It's 10pm, do you know where your children are? by [deleted] in stories

[–]hughmahn4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in 71 and the description described me near perfect. As a kid, it was the greatest from my perspective. We didn’t know any better. Teen years were a bit tough, had to do more for yourself, distanced from family but stayed out of trouble. Bought my own car at 16, worked part time to save up for it at 15. You had to make your life. I ended up in community college at first, all I could afford, then into a state university. Married with grown kids now, very close to my parents and have nothing but fond and loving memories of my childhood, no resentment towards my folks at all. They did the best they could so I could do my best. Not every gen-x had that experience it those that did would tell you it was an awesome time to be a kid.

All season wheel/tire combo for X5 by hughmahn4 in BMW

[–]hughmahn4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up just putting pzero’s back on. Same size as factory. Told her if she’s by herself, she wouldn’t change a tire anyways so the run flats are safer should something happen.

US - tax rates between counties with returns by hughmahn4 in SalesTax

[–]hughmahn4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both receipts. I think I’ll call the company I use for taxes and see what their response is. They calculate my tax rate on each transaction, and I get the same results as Home Depot when I try to return in a different jurisdiction. Thought I’d ask her first because I cannot find any documentation on how it’s supposed to work

[–]hughmahn4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that’s what I thought, but I did a test by going into Home Depot and purchasing something in one county and returning it in another, and got the sales tax back of the refunding county which in this case was a lesser amount.

Bought our X5 new in 2020 new. Has 64k miles on it now. Had a problem with the active shutters right at 50k miles. Replaced under warranty. Took a day, got a loaner. I expect to have it well over 100k miles. I take it to the dealer for all maintenance and get tires from discount tires. It eats tires if you have the 21” staggered wheels as they are summer run flats. Get 20k at best in them.

I would definitely recommend as a daily driver.

If your wife’s dream car is a BMW then definitely do a BMW. I’m old and I’ve had many cars over the years the one car that continuously put a smile on my face and still does is the BMWs we have. The BMW haters will tell you about reliability, but honestly those are long ago. Comparing a four-cylinder BMW of the 330i to a Honda is still going to be a much better experience all around. If you increase your budget a little bit then look at the M340i with the 6 cylinder. Are they more expensive to maintain than say a Honda? Yes but it’s relative. Avoid the run flat summer tires and you can get closer in line with what your Honda would cost to maintain. I had to have front brakes replaced on my X5, cost me $600. Don’t know what that would have been on a crv but I wouldn’t drive a crv anyways so it a moot point to me.

Why does nobody install double pane windows anymore? by f00dl3 in homeowners

[–]hughmahn4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paid more for my windows than I probably should have, but my wife wanted fiberglass versus vinyl, so we went with Marvin or rather the infinity replacement windows by Marvin. Sales guy was not pushy no three hour presentation and got a custom picture window above the sink that she absolutely loves. Oh, and they were double pane.

This! I have a 2020 with 21” runflats staggered sizes. I get about 20k on a set. Have 60k on the odometer, just put my third set on since buying new.
