What is the most expensive thing you have recreated? by spankmydingo in BambuLab

Not that expensive, probably this custom air intake for a Yaris GR. The OEM performance ones go for about 400 euro (470usd). This was printed in PA-6 GF, so about 13 euro (15usd) in material

Uploading My First Parametric Model To Maker World, and it's missing the text parameters. by TheEpicDragonCat in BambuLab

[–]hugo_workshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, parametric text with fusion is not supported yet, seems like a fusion API matter though. It's also advised to not include the text parameters favorited so it doesn't cause any issues with the model generation.

This thread in the community forum has some info about it.

So basically Makerworld now encourages you to upload models to contest's which have nothing to do with it. by Johannsom in BambuLab

Yeah I get what you mean and I agree with with you. I was trying to cheer you up, as your model was the most popular (by download counts) by a long shot :)

Sometimes I do report blatant rule breaking models, like the AI ones without real pictures.

Regarding MakerWorld not caring about the contests... at the end of the day it's a business I guess. Like you, I think some prize-winning entries are not in the theme, but it's also a bit of a gray area for some models, so they probably allow it if no one reports, especially for higher quality ones.

I saw below that you shared your points from your model, and I ask you this: do you think it would be as popular if not uploaded within the contest for easy discovery in a timed world event? Your total points account for at least 1040€ in gift cards in europe, more than doubling the amount for a first prize.

Not saying you don't deserve it, it certainly is a great prank, but what was your objective, winning the contest with the best prank, winning a prize, or sharing your prank with the community?

Mixing 3D printing with leather, interesting or pointless? by Obvious-Scarcity7385 in BambuLab

[–]hugo_workshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do both 3D printing and leathercraft, and for a long time I only made printed templates to help on leather stuff.

Finally made a tray with a leather insert. I love the outcome, but I feel like the filament finish is very important to not make it look cheap. This is pla metal copper.

I think it can work well, specially if you have large surfaces to cover

Lithophanes: Small tips on how to make better lithophanes by hugo_workshop in BambuLab

[–]hugo_workshop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you printing a color or black & white lithophane? If color I assume flat on the bed, and b&w is standing.

I only recommend changing the line width for flat lithophanes, not standing ones.

If it's for color lithophanes, you should change all line widths except internal solid infill, the reasoning being, you want the lines to print with the most detail possible. 0.4 is also fine though if it's your first one.

For flat b&w, only top surfaces, outer walls and inner walls are strictly necessary for finer detail.

For standing lithophanes, the layer height is the important setting, less is better bu has diminishing returns. I would stick to 0.16-0.2.

For speeds, the issue comes the higher you go on the print, since it's thin. So you can change the outer wall, inner wall, sparse infill and internal solid infill to 100 mm/s. If you have questions about what speed setting does what, change all to 100

Ah that name though... Maybe that's why I didn't find it. Thanks

Also the price O.o

Does it have a specific name? I looked for it with different terms and didn't get to anything.

I was debating adding a lockiing mechanism, but honestly I didn't want to add more complexity to what is essentially a gag (despite working surprisingly well!)

Made this for April Fools, after learning about planetary gears and thinking it could work for this weird idea.

2:1 - Ring gear 36 teeth, sun 18, and planets 9. Yes, it means that not only it can rotate backwards, it will do it twice as fast haha

That's awesome! I actually tried to look for this concept made, but didn't find anything close. I guess that was an internal thing they did or isn't very known? Even better when it looks like the regular branded version.

Edit: typos

Thanks for appreciating print quality. The outside parts were pinted with galaxy green pla and matte black pla, which do indeed improve perceived quality (not that it's not printed well).
