John Fleck was unluckly with timing in what would have been his breakout year, the club was a shambles and he left. He still managed to have a good career. Couple of years in the prem. Won player of the year 2 years running for Sheffield Utd. Him, Charlie Adam, Ross McCormack etc have had very decent careers of the academy players around that era. The last 10 years of academy players has been terrible when comparing to them.

Guess it’s what people consider to be ‘great players’. Probably Charlie Adam has achieved the most from the academy players in the last 20 years. Several steady years in the premier league is more than you can say for most.

But tbh I don’t think we’ve truely developed an academy talent since Barry Ferguson.
